Many people are confused by the fact that we see Chief with his MK.VI armor in the demo, instead of the Halo 5 armor we last saw him in. I credit HiddenXperia for the valid reasons provided since they are relevant to the topic, and I will link the video below. Why would Master Chief use already damaged armor (i.e. partly shattered visor, battered armor), that was also personally upgraded by Cortana, the biggest threat to Chief and the galaxy. The MK.VI armor has been proven to do extraordinary things (i.e. assasinate the Prophet of Regret, destroy a covenant capital ship singlehandedly, destroy a gravemind, destroy a replacement Halo and damage the Ark) and is beyond reliable. It very well may be that the MK.VI armor is the only undamaged or uncompromised MJOLNIR armor available to Chief. Either way, it makes sense for Chief to change up his armor, which 343 has now used to their advantage for the benefit of both the community and the franchise. Your guy’s thoughts?
I don’t think there needs to be a canon reason because the Halo 4 armor was always supposed to be the same as the Halo 3 armor, just in a different art style.

No, it wasn’t. They tried to justify the design change by saying that Cortana used nanobots to modify the armor while Master Chief was asleep.

Well that came from an off-hand comment by Frank O’Connor about Cortana repairing Chief’s suit with nanobots. The Halo 5 visual guide brings it up, but tip-toes around the subject. As far as I can tell there is no canonical statement that this is the reason Chief looks different in Halo 4. Just seems to be something the community as a whole accepted and ran with.

Don’t actually remember how it came about. Was it just an off-hand comment from Frankie? Not mentioned in any written source?

The only mention of it now is in this video. What he is referring to is a comment made in the 6/20/12 Halo Bulletin about nanobots repairing Chief’s armor. It no longer seems to be available on this site as that post was made under a different layout when this site was still “halo.xbox.com.”

I think his armor was heavily remodeled because of the nanobots?

Read my posts above. There is no official statement saying that this was the cause for the design change.
343 just feels the need to fix what isn’t broken from time to time. They had to flex their new franchise ownership muscles and change things for the sake of change.
