For those of you that have played the Spartan Ops season, you may have noticed that the Sticky Detonator is completely absent. I’ve been wondering why. . .
Then I remembered in the Halo 4 Campaign, the Sticky Detonator does not appear in any of the missions with the Infinity. . . So even before Spartan Ops, the Infinity didn’t seem to have any Sticky Detonators. If I remember correctly, the Sticky Detonator only appears in the mission ‘Composer’, though I may be wrong.
However, this does not explain how there are Sticky Detonators in War Games, so my guess is that all the weapons in War Games are part of the simulation, and therefore, there are not real Sticky Detonators in the War Games.
So there you have it. A canon explanation of why the Sticky Detonator is absent in Spartan Ops.
I thought the sticky detonator was some kind of weird mining/extraction tool, which is why it was only seen on the composer mission (with all the other research/mining gear).
It would be interesting if in future seasons of Spartan Ops they allowed the sticky detonator to be used in fort/generator defense type missions with clear-cut enemy routes. That would give it an excellent niche against enemy types.
Unfortunately, the Prometheans screw that up since they teleport in from all over the place…
Now that you say it… I can’t think of a mission in Spartan Ops that has Sticky Detonators.
… Then again… It is 3:00 in the morning where I’m at, at the time of this typing…
I’ll come back tomorrow (it’s not today until I wake up or until I see the sun), and tell you if there is one or not. Right now, I just can’t remember. I want to say there was. But I can’t remember for sure or not.

I am 99% certain that you will not find a Sticky Detonator in any Spartan Ops mission.
> Or the UNSC realized it’s potential for self-harm and friendly fire (as a result of it’s immense splash damage and range) and put a ban on it.

Considering how stupid the Marines AI are in H4, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the canon explanation.
They may not have a reason for deploying them on those missions. The way we mostly use them is similar to a rocket launcher, but we control when it blows up.
Why send a tiny bomb launcher when we can just use a bigger one that would definitely get the job done?

Because they are significantly different from Rocket Launchers.
That’s like saying “why send them DMRs when we can send them Sniper Rifles”. It’s cause they are for different combat roles and situations.
But if you look at the Sticky Detonator it looks like an older weapon with the green plating on it, and since it was only seen at Ivanoff station is was probably used for mining and not combat.
It was supposedly a prototype weapon developed at Ivanoff Station for use by the security forces there and other ONI spies.
Doesn’t explain why it’s in War Games, but it isn’t that big of a deal.
Edit: actually, scratch that, this makes more sense:

Hmm, guys, I think it might be in ONE mission.
Remember episode 7, on the Infinity? I dunno why but I have a feeling I used it once on their or something…
