Bungie has stated many times that what noble six is IS up to the player (Kinda like how they originally wanted master chief to be (partly))
343 could make Six into something canon. You can always hope.
This might not be what your looking for, But the OFFICIAL bungie.net bio for Noble six simply lists his gender as XXX. So its up to you. I did some digging and could not find the news release. Hope this helps (Although the portrait does look kinda male ^_-.).

The problem with your sourcing is that it’s been retconned. The Essential Visual Guide says he’s male, so he’s male. In addition to that it’s something Stephen Loftus vouches for. Not sure why you’re getting so worked up over this, be happy over your victory on the Prologue page instead.
> Still dreaming that my N6 survived reach and is part of fireteam crimson…
I made a thread about this a while ago, even kept my armor in Reach default for most of the time I played. I have come to the conclusion that 6 being “you” means there is no real character, and he/she is truly gone.
Still, I hope for a canon reason for this other “Hyper-Lethal Vector.”

Never read that guide. I had no idea what page I was on. I was just trying to find something relevant for the man. Thank you for clearing that up.
The issue is one of gameplay mechanics versus established continuity. From a gameplay perspective, yes, Noble Six can be male or female. However, 343 Industries have decreed that Six is male in continuity (plus he’s 6’ 9" and weighs 239 pounds).
Quoth Halopedia’s ScaleMaster117, who is none other than Stephen Loftus, 343i’s main consultant on both Essential Visual Guides, the novel reprints, and several other works:
“… 343i (and Bungie before them) only considers Noble Six to be male from a canonical standpoint within the fiction… female Six is only a gameplay option for players.”’’ “… Six is fictionally male according to 343i.” “If 343i uses Noble Six in any future endeavors fictionally, B312 will not be female.”
Halopedia articles are written primarily in an in-universe tone. Information about gameplay is relegated to production notes and/or trivia sections after the main body of the article. The current version of the SPARTAN-B312 page has been amended so that all references to player choice, including the Spartan’s gender and armor, are listed separately from the fictional biography.
It’s not like The Essential Visual Guide (page 130 for those who’re interested) canonized Six’s name, facial appearance, or other personal details. Other than his pre-established history as an assassin and Sabre pilot, S-312 is still a blank slate. If you want to imagine Noble Six as Cindy-B312, a 6’ 4" orphan from Madrigal, that’s your prerogative. However, that incarnation exists only in your “interpretation” of the Halo universe. 343 Industries’ version is the one that exists in the first-party Halo canon.
Just to pipe in myself. I’m not a 343i employee, just an occasional consultant. 343i can do what they please with the character of Noble Six of course, but note that the data in the Visual Guide was geared towards a male character (personal pronouns, height/weight). Note that there’s not two data columns for male Six and female Six. Just sayin’…
I honestly do wonder if Crimson is Six. In the last few missions in SPOPS, a few background songs reminded me of Reach in how they sounded, and Crimson is obviously top notch in combat (just like Six).
Why bother confirming the -Yoink!- of Six and all that if your not even going to bother with him again?
If for no other reason it was to prevent Six’s entry in The Essential Visual Guide from being awkwardly written. Trust me, the Halopedia article used to be a chore to read because we went out of our way to keep the biography gender-neutral.
No matter what.
These 5 things are canon for Noble 6. If we are to ignore the visual guide. Yes I agree with the visual guide. But this is just a study of other materials
1)Noble 6 Profile Note appearance as male(before launch though but still notable) And mention of the word “his”.
2)The Halo Reach Manual says Noble 6 was a pilot, and did counter-insurgency on Mamore on the 10th May 2552
A Spartan will Rise Halseys comment on Noble 6, saying there is a lot hidden about him, and that hes hyper lethal. Note his appearance is Male in this.(before launch but still notable)
Every major event(note the word event) that happens to Noble 6 in Halo Reach happens to him.
5)In the limited edition of Halo Reach it came with a Photo of Noble team. In this photo has a highly hidden Noble 6, who clearly has the body of a Male. I say that is the biggest evidence that proves the gender of Noble 6, as its a huge part of canon.
Most of the above hints that Noble 6 is in male in Halo Canon.
Final note I will say is. I believe this is a good example of rule 63. As in terms of story of Halo Reach. Noble 6’s gender doesn’t really matter. But if it were to be expanded further then the Male gender would take priority over the female counterpart.

How to make it not awkwardly written while not using gender
What is known is that Six showed exemplary skill in both ground-based and orbital missions.
I do apologize but I would have you know that “he” is a proper and correct use of grammar in the instance the gender of a subject is unknown.
I would also say, that despite the fact the visual guide lists these statistics, I’d say it could likely be taken as ONI propaganda, and as Loftus said, 343i can do what they wish with the character, if they retcon his/her statistics and say it was ONI propaganda, or incorrect (just as Bungie did with a 6’07" Master Chief who was previously changed to be 6’10" and is now 7’02") it pretty much means about 75% of Six’s background is up to the player, including gender.
Why go to such lengths to keep a character as blank and ambiguous as possible if you’re going to retcon it in the end? Just doesn’t make sense. Since Bungie made the character I consider their word slightly superior, so despite the fact that 343i says that link is retconned, I say otherwise, since Bungie made the character and the game s/he was part of.
I wouldn’t use ‘retconned’. I’d say the information was expanded upon. The Chief’s birth date in the first Visual Guide was “Classified” and now it’s a known date. That’s not retconned. It’s new info.
Noble Six’s gender was simply classified as XXX before game launch and now it’s known.
“Why go to such lengths to keep a character as blank and ambiguous as possible if you’re going to retcon it in the end?”
Because seeing the gender and other stats as XXX means it’s a big surprise when Bungie reveals you can play the character in the gender of your choosing as a new game mechanic that wasn’t previously in a Halo game. That doesn’t at all speak to even Bungie’s view of the character in the fiction. Except for speaking of the gameplay mechanic, how often does a female Noble Six show up visually in any Bungie or 343i materials?? How often a male Noble Six??
