Canon Fodder- Session 6: Halo Wars: Genesis

The Halo Universe has an absolutely dizzying array of story threads that weave their way in and out of a variety of different mediums to tell the larger tale of the fiction. One of my favorite feelings is that moment of realization when you recognize that something you’ve just read or saw connects back and resonates with something you might have seen weeks, months, or even years before. Your Halo Universe Forum Monitors adore the fiction just like you, and absolutely love the life you all give to it with the discussions you create and become involved with.

With this in mind, we created a series of exploring a hidden corner of the fiction. Basically a conversation-starter that will take a look at some of the scattered stories around the Halo Universe. It could be from a short film, a short story, a motion comic, or even an art book entry, but it will all be to discuss how it ties back the the greater tale being told. And hey, even fiction veterans might find something they missed, or perhaps just haven’t revisited in a while, and it will be a great time to get reacquainted with whatever details we present! Also, in case these little discussion events make you curious about where you can find even more avenues to learn more about the Halo story, you can check out this post here for one easy place to see all the spots you can look in.

If you’d like to join in any of our past conversations, please do!

For Session 6, let’s examine the graphic novel, Halo Wars: Genesis.

As always, keep up the great discussion!

Much love,

I thought it was a nice little comic that sets the tone for the game, personally all Halos should have something like it. I do find it funny how Covie prisons give their prisoners orange jumpsuits, however.

Some things are just universal, I guess.

On topic: Loved Halo Genesis! Overall, I think Halo Wars’ Limited edition was one of the best purchases I have every made, and the comic is easily the biggest reason why.

As Cobra said, I would love if more Halo games had something like this.

I loved Halo Wars: Genesis, it gave a real good backstory to everything you would want to know about the events going on and the major characters’ backstories. I also liked the artistic style it was drawn in.

What Cobra said.

I devoured it before playing Halo Wars for the first time. Absolutely loved it. I’d like to see more Halo games do something like this.

Heck, in this day in age, it would even kill time as the game downloads. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s certainly not a bad idea, having a comic with the game that details backstory on the various characters and events.

I will tell you what I think of it in 1 week if everything goes as planned.

Ordered the Halo Wars LE

Just read it.

Love it !

The orange jumpsuits are funny. But the story is great.

I do wonder why Onyx was mentioned in that speech by the doctor.

I though Onyx didn’t “exist” on the maps anymore by ONI’s hand

It was. Anders should not have known about it. Even if she did, it should not have been part of a university lecture. I was also confused by the “Cote De Azure” reference. This is a reference to a planet in Halo Wars: Genesis, but I suspect they may have been horribly misspelled and instead intended to be Côte d’Azur, the city on the planet Sigma Octanus IV.

I didn’t care for the cruiser Prophesy being depicted in the comic as a Marathon-class in the actual ship scenes, a Halcyon-class on the monitors, and referenced as a destroyer instead of a cruiser in the unlockable Halo Wars timeline. To me, it’s officially a Marathon-class.
