Okay, so when I go to “SAVE A COPY” of the game settings I’ve made, it always says “Error Encountered While Saving” and by always, I mean EVERY TIME. It won’t let me save my own custom game modes. Also, when I attempt to load game mode variants, it always says “UNABLE TO RETRIEVE DATA. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER.” And when I do try again later, it still says the same thing. Is anyone else getting this problem, and do they know why it happens and if there is any way to fix it? One last thing: when I try to load a film in Theatre mode it always comes up with an error message and won’t let me see it.
Everything is set to “allow” or “everyone”, still not working.
I removed my profile, cache reset the Xbox, reinstalled halo 5, etc. I have open Nat, etch, etc.
I can save forge maps, bookmark or download them. But I can not get my bookmarked game types to load, nor can I “save” or “save as”. The error “error encountered while saving” comes up.
Any help!!??

Sorry, I can’t help you: I’m having the same problems and don’t know how to fix them. But maybe with two of us we’ll have better luck with finding a solution.

How many maps/gametypes do you currently have saved?
I’ve heard there is a hard cap of around 40 files and once you hit that, you’ll see similar errors to the ones you’re experiencing.

Well - I have (maybe) 25 custom maps… but it might be closer to 40…
My process : “bookmark” a custom game mode/variant I want to play. Then, in custom games, select the map (that I’ve previously saved from a bookmark), then select “mode/game type”. I choose the bookmarked file - nothing happens or loads in the game settings. So I click “setting”, then “save” or “save as”.
Clicking “save” does nothing - the menu makes a button press noise, then nothing changes. Clicking “Save-As” brings up the naming menu, so I enter a name or leave the title the same as the author originally created, then save. At this point, in red letters at the bottom right hand of the screen, the words “error encountered when saving” (or something similar) pops up.
Is the cap a combination of game modes AND custom maps? Anything you suggest to try to fix it?
I’ve recently gone through all my settings, deleted nearly all my custom maps that I’ve downloaded from other players, removed all bookmarks (I think)
I STILL can not load any custom game type
Nor can I save any custom game type that I have created
But I can load and save custom maps.
No work, no fix, no advice folks?

Thanks again for the input, but it didn’t work.
I have no bookmarks, and have deleted down to only having a combined total of 20 files (custom maps and gametypes) - however I can no “save-as” or “save” ANY custom gametypes. Because of this, I can’t host and custom game lobbies.
This is still a problem for me.
Moderators wont like this post because its an “old” issue, but months later its still not fixed. So, its current in my book.
I thank this forum for all its non-wonderful support… the overwhelming response on this thread and others is a testament.

…you’re welcome! But in all seriousness though, issue hasn’t been resolved for me either, haven’t figured out how to fix it.
I have the same theatre mode issues. I haven’t encountered the custom games issue mainly discussed here, but I haven’t tried it so you never know. Hopefully we can bring attention to this because there STILL is NO solutions. And every other thread has been locked about these issues. Even the new ones are being locked. 343 help!
