Hello, everyone. I have a 980Ti which I know is dated but it has played Halo Infinite at ~120-144 frames since launch with no problems. However, with any driver AFTER the August release of 516.94 the game utilizes 100% GPU and will not go above 30 FPS no matter which settings I set. Whether I run it at the lowest render %, or the highest. Max, or lowest settings, or try to utilize minimum Frame Rate Resolution adjustment. I can’t keep using the old drivers as it’s not affecting playing other modern games. So I’m unfortunately left with the decision to keep the old Drivers and just play Halo, or use other drivers and play other games.
As stated I know 980Ti is old but it is still playing modern games on lowish settings and pushing 140+ frames. Even MW2.
Maybe some settings in the Nvidia control panel got messed up, like performance/power target, vsync etc.?
Is the older driver that much worse for other games? I would generally advise against updating everything asap as long as it’s running fine and there is no specific fix for you in the patch notes.
If security risks are fixed, an update is advisable obviously.
It’s been 6 or 7 releases of Nvidia drivers at this point and I get crashes on CoD with the August drivers and none with any of the renditions between I will take a look at the Nvidia control panel. Thank you!
Unfortunately a clean reinstall did not work. Still sit at 100% GPU usage in the menus. Rendering at 760p and 4k gives me the exact same performance. Right at 30fps. I can set almost all of the settings to Ultra 4k before I start to see the frames go down. And setting everything to as low as they get and render at 760p does not raise them above 30-35 fps. This is miserable.
Then maybe someone else with the same GPU has some experience or you switch to another driver-version depending on whether you want to play Infinite or MW2. I’m sorry it’s not working for you at the moment and hopefully the next version works better. There is no reason for Infinite to run like crap on a 980Ti because there is nothing next-gen about this game.
Ok… I rolled back to 516.59 and I’m back to solid FPS performance. If I felt like either 343 or NVIDIA would bother to fix whatever they broke, I’d iterate forward a till I found the broken driver update more definitively, but I just have no reason to think they’ll bother looking into this given how old the 980Ti is… unless somebody from 343 responds here indicating otherwise.
I’m having the same problem on a 980Ti. I’ve been playing BF2042 for the past few weeks (with totally fine performance), but just came back to Halo last night. I used to get 100 FPS on medium settings at 1080p when I was playing a few weeks back, now I get mostly in the 40s and 50s with everything cranked all the way down, plus with like 80% resolution scaling. Some maps, like breaker, for whatever reason now only run at 15 fps, so I have to quit out… it’s just unplayable.
I get my card is old, but as OP stated, it’s been working fine until some update from the past few weeks. I keep my drivers up to date, and I see there have been several versions since August, so speaking for myself, it was running fine on my machine on some version after 516.94, but one of the last two updates must have broken it for me. If this is an NVIDIA mistake, then this def feels like some good ol’ planned obsolescence, but because it’s still running fine on BF2042, I’m going to reserve judgement. I’m going to try rolling back my drivers and see if that helps though.
