I’m unable to launch Halo 5. I get through the Microsoft and 343 splash screens to the “press start” page. When pressing start it crashes back to the dashboard. I do not get any error message. I am able to reliably recreate this. I have done the following to try to remedy the issue:
I’d call xbox support. Do you lose internet connection while downloading? If so, that’s probably the culprit. The download is huge, something like 98 gigs.
Did not lose connection. Created a test xbox profile last night and was occasionally able to get on and play campaign and matchmaking, but still crashed out of those occasionally. I suspect something with my profile on the server side is corrupt as the game does not crash until it attempts to reach the servers.
Any chance you have the game installed on an external drive? Sometimes games don’t like certain drives for whatever reason. I had a glitch in Horizon 2 where I wasn’t able to complete a race and progress through the game until I installed the game on my internal drive.
Game is installed on the internal drive. I’ve run out of things on my end to troubleshoot at this point.
Are you able to play other Xbox games normally and without issue? How about other Halo games, like MCC or Halo Wars 2? Are you able to play Halo 5 campaign while offline on your main profile or your test profile?
You could be onto something with the corrupted profile idea, but since you tried making a totally new profile and still had some trouble with that, I’m not sure if that’s the issue, as the chances of both your normal and test profiles getting corrupted in the same way seems low, unless the issue is with how your console communicates with the servers.

Nope. System reset wiped it all. Apps such as Netflix, Twitch, YouTube, etc. all run fine.

That’s good to know. It’ll be interesting what the result of trying to play MCC is.
If you have access to someone else’s console that you could try playing Halo 5 from using your account, that would be a really helpful test. Since both your profile and the test profile failed, the issue sounds like it originates with your console and/or your internet.

Agreed. Since it crashes even in offline I’m suspecting console. I may be able to get my hands on a friends extra box and test with that.

MCC runs campaign and matchmaking without issue. Seems to be a H5 problem.

That’s good. So maybe something specific about your console and Halo 5, and not just any 343i game or other Xbox game. Which sounds weird, especially after a factory reset. Testing out your profile on another console will be helpful, as it would help you determine if a new console would solve your issue. If that doesn’t work, then I can’t think of what your issue would be. If it were corrupt profile data in the cloud then a new profile should have been fine, but it wasn’t.

I had issues with H5 a while back. Called xbox support, they resynced my account and walla, everything worked fine after that.
