I got the War Games Pass a long time ago and have just noticed that I haven’t seen any of the new maps in Matchmaking recently. The message in the lobby pops up, “Players do not have the recommended downloadable content maps” in the War Games menu. I was even able to play some of them at some point! I can access them all on Custom Games, all of the map packs are in my HD and in my download history. I have contacted Microsoft support multiple times in the the past few days to resolve this but none of their trouble shooting yielded any result. I tried redownloading the packs four times, sometimes to different HDs. I deleted my profile and redownloaded that from the server, clearing my system cache, doing everything they could think of. It seems to be a server problem, was our conclusion, and I was hoping you anyone had any suggestions?
I have no idea what to do! Please help!
Do you have the Forge Island DLC installed? This is likely what’s causing the “Players do not have the recommended downloadable content maps” popup.
As for DLC not actually showing up - when playing Halo 4, you aren’t guaranteed to match up with players who own the same DLC as you, hence why the maps never show up.
I have not downloaded forge island, but I have not seen any DLC maps period. In the many number of matchmaking games I have played, even before I noticed the issue, they have never been an option on any playlist.
I will download forge island just to see if that makes any difference though.
The issue with DLC not showing up isn’t because you don’t have Forge Island installed, I’m simply telling you to install that for three reasons:
- It’s free
- You’re missing out on some great community forge maps
- It gets rid of the message you see in the War Games lobby
As for DLC not showing up - like I said, you aren’t guaranteed to match up with players who own the DLC. If ONE person in the matchmaking lobby doesn’t own the DLC, it can’t and WILL NOT show up.
At this point it would be nice if they just gave it to everyone so that those of us who like to get the achievements at least have a shot.
Also, why don’t they add Dominion into Big Team? I mean, how can you take out a game type that has commendations attached to it? Plus it was one of the best ideas 343 had for Halo 4’s match making and would add some variety to big team.

I realize all of that. Maybe I really have had the worst luck in terms of matchmaking, but it has been months.

To be fair, this has been the situation with DLC since Halo Reach. Its just more prominent in Halo 4 since DLC owners are a minority compared to non-DLC owners.

Pretty much what Phil and Moa said is true. With Forge Island, its really fun to play around with so definitely download it. As for DLC"s…since Halo Reach, there’s been an issue with DLC owners and Non-DLC owners constantly pairing up, which is pretty much why you don’t see the DLC maps. If you have to, why not gather up players who DO have the DLC’s, if you are seeking Achievements or just want to play around on them.
Go to custom game, scroll maps and find one with a download link, this will open Live Marketplace where you can download the 3 map packs for Free if never downloaded after buying the Wargames Pass.
