I really hate that Halo requires leveling up. I got my start in the series playing Halo Reach, and everything was unlocked for everyone immediately from the start (all the loadouts). That meant everyone was on a level playing field in multiplayer.
Having new players unable to access some of the abilities/loadouts puts them at an unfair disadvantage to other players in multiplayer. You can no longer just pick up and play the game (think older multiplayer FPS games like Goldeneye or Perfect Dark).
This is multiplied by the fact that only certain people (the ones with the Limited Edition or the ones that played before November 20th) can access the additional specializations. Basically you’re saying if this person pays more money than this person, then they get extra abilities. How is that competitively fair?
I got my XBOX 360 as a gift for Christmas, so obviously there was no point in my owning Halo 4 before then. I actually purchased Halo 4 during the Black Friday sales because I knew I would be getting the 360 for Christmas. I didn’t purchase the Limited Edition because I figured the early access to the extra specializations would only last about a month. I figured by the time Christmas hit, with everyone that received Halo 4 as a gift for the holidays, the specializations would be unlocked for everyone. Or at least by by the new year.
I realize it’s being said that all specializations will be unlocked for everyone in “Early, early 2013.” But having reached Level 70, I’m stuck twiddling my thumbs now. It’s stupid, 343 shouldn’t have tried to make the Halo 4 multiplayer system into an MMO.
Is it even possible for me to purchase the Limited Edition and install it so that I have access to the extra specializations without losing the 70 levels I’ve built up? As in, can you upgrade from the regular edition to the Limited Edition? Does the Limited Edition simply contain a code to unlock the specializations that can be used if you already have the regular edition installed?
Really annoyed that this is even a thing…
