I know Halo 4 is 2 disk, and I know the 2nd disk is required to be installed for the multiplayer… but can you launch the MP portion of the game with the 2nd disk only?

Nope, you’ll have to install the 2nd disc to run Multiplayer from the 1st disc

I really hope that with the next Xbox console Microsoft switches to Blu Ray, or creates a disk with more disk space than the DVD format because that’s kinda sad
But after I install it on the HD with the 2nd disk, can I run MP on the second disk?

One does not simply put 16GB on one disc.
> But after I install it on the HD with the 2nd disk, can I run MP on the second disk?
Yes. Disc twois merely the install disc. After installing, you can run everything from disc one.
Disc two includes War Games and Spartan ops

So I can launch MP off the second disk?

No, all game functions are on the first disc, like Forza.

No, you can only install MP and Spartan Ops from the second disk, you’ll have to launch MP from the FIRST disk.
There is more reason then DVD player of why installing is a good idea. Its easier to open assests from an harddrive. Most importantly are textures and sound files, most of them needs to be precached while used for better performance and quality. The process is more smooth when its already on a harddrive. Even on ps3 with a blueray many game recommend installing. Hell games like BF3 and RAGE require installation even while on a blue ray. Loading files off a disc into the ram is simply not that great and doesent work for the better quality assests.
As we move foward in this gen and next gen, you will be require more and more to install part of the game into your consoles. Its simply more effective and gives your game better performance and quicker loading, thats why they will come with bigger and bigger harddrives.
Side added benifit is that an installed game can still run from a damaged disc(depends on how major the damages are of course).
Short answer: Blue ray or not some games with higher quality visuals will always require an install: Exemple BF3 hd textures and Rage on PS3. Even if the disc can hold the files in rage exemple, its required for game performance to have these heavy assests decompressed on the hardrive itself.
How long does it take to install?
> How long does it take to install?
Less than five minutes.
> How long does it take to install?
5 to 10 minutes, but since its a process you only have to do once, and in some games that dont force you to install it can literally cut your loadings by 50% or more. You save time there. I always install game if its a game i play often. Those long loading stack ups quickly over 10 minutes.
