Can you please fix unfair matchmaking?

Unless I force the game to find me a fair match based on skill, then it seems that the game takes every opportunity to screw me over.
In reality, it should be just trying to find me the fastest game possible. And I should expect some of those games to be unbalanced in terms of skill on each side. And within that, I should expect to be on the good side half of the time, and on the bad side half of the time.

But no.

Match after match, I either seem to be getting put with terrible people against very good people and/or entire premade teams, or I get stuck with quitters.
I guess the quitter part is just plain bad luck (unless the system is using amount of games quit as a factor (which we know it stores in order to hand out temp bans or rewards).

Tonight I’ve had about five games. I know rank doesnt equal skill, but it is true to say that IN GENERAL, a higher rank will be better skill than a lower rank, simply because they have played more games, and most people get better the more they play. So whilst there are exceptions, it is a good generalisation.

My first game I think I had me and one other field marshall, versus a nova and a mythic on their team. The rest of my team was made up of warrant officer and below, whilst theirs was generals etc.

The next game was along similar lines.

The third game was looking equal, until for once, we managed to break the drudgery that is endless ‘heavies’ or ‘big team slayer’ and finally get an objective game, whereupon three of my team quit before the game began. So we lost that too.

The fourth game again was in the enemy team’s favour for ranks, so one of our team quit.

The fifth game, I’m ashamed to say I quit before it even began. A six man premade on the enemy team, two Inheritors, two Reclaimers, and the rest just below that rank.
Our team, a group of randoms with one person above legend rank.

This happens to me EVERY SINGLE TIME I look for a match up and dont force it to base on skill.

Yes, I know that without it, the game should be going for quickest match possible, but it would be nice just for once to start the game on an equal, or (let’s go crazy) even a favourable footing.

Agreed the MM system doesn’t do a very good job pitting players against each other.

You could try getting personally better at the game like I did. If you’re an average player there are a lot more players out there who will beat you. If you’re in the top 20%, then the odds are stacked in your favor. Most games in BTB that I see really come down to which team has the best 2-3 players on the team.

If you’re unwilling/unable to make the effort to get better there are always plenty of clans/communities you can link up to go in with full parties and not get stuck with the betrayer/quitters.

Ive noticed something trying to play halo reach.

If day 1 i play hardcore in a playlist that i am going extreamly good in then come day 2 i am pitted with people who i cant seem to shoot at all or random connection issues or teammates that are idiots. When day 3 comes its nearly impossible to get a good game cause everyone is horribly screwed up and the matchups are not seeming correct.

If i play day 1 and stomp on everyone and anyone and then come day 2 i dont play that playlist at all then when day 3 comes i am tearing up everyone even with bad shots.

Ive noticed that true skill is in play and is always in effect. Play good and the level goes up … Play bad and the level goes down.

As what i read you may be just like me getting bounced around like a pinball in a jar while the jar is on a paint shaker.

Play the playlist for 1 day and then go do another the next and come back the next day after that. Its not a perfect solution but it works for me or at least it did till i got bored of doing it. This idea can also be spread between multiple playlists like day 1 is swat day 2 is snipers and day 3 is grifball and day 4 is swat again.

It’s the price everyone must pay for complaining and whining about Halo 3’s perfect ranking system that had social and ranked so bungie took that away in reach. Bad players didn’t like the fact in halo 3 they couldn’t get to the top rank (which not everyone was meant to). So now you can get the highest rank but you will get wrecked along the way. All the good players are in the the ‘social’ playlists because they have nowhere else to go.

I have no sympathy either really. Players complained and took away trueksill visible ranked playlists which made games far more enjoyable with matching players based on skill.

You chose your poison so enjoy it =)

Hey now, just because a lot of people complained about the previous system it doesn’t mean TC “Chose” his poison. I certainly didn’t complain about not hitting 50 in Halo 3. I was/am only a 45. Not ONCE did I complain about not hitting 50, I just looked at it as a goal to aim for. If I had ever hit 50 I would’ve chosen a different goal.

I personally HATE when people can’t achieve a certain standard, then complain and demand the standard be lowered so they can hit it.

I didn’t mean him specifically but the community as a whole complained a lot and so they ruined a big part of halo for me and many others.

It’s one of the reasons why Reach’s matchmaking is so lame.

You’re an idiot, Halo 3’s ranking system was terrible, I created 3 “50’s” in one afternoon. That’s not good in any way, not to mention all of the lag and hackers/modders, that might be fun for them (they probably suck without their mods), but not for anyone else. Reach’s search logic has only been bad since 343i took over (draw your own conclusions), I do know one thing, if 343 doesn’t fix it (the whole we didn’t make this game excuse is over used), no one will buy any future games. It’s their game now, they could fix it, but they haven’t, because they don’t want to.

I just played a team of good players, a couple of my “teammates” quit out, we fought back and won an unbalanced game. I went 27-6 ( I was camping with the sniper), the very next game, I was matched up against a team of Inheritors and Reclaimers, is that fair? I’m a Warrant Officer Grade 3 with an okay k/d. I shouldn’t be matched up against that, for any reason, especially if my teammates are a bunch of nobodys!

Bottom line, this is 343i’s game, they could fix it, but they won’t, for whatever reason.

Your first post here and you call someone an idiot, good job. I’m not an idiot and I’m sure you did create 3 50’s in one afternoon. Just because a few people like you abuse the system and boost in it because you can’t get a 50 the right way does not mean the system was bad. People cheat in Reach to get credits all the time so by your logic reach’s system on just that assumption is “terrible”. Reach’s system is far worse and not just for the lame credit boosting but afk players, quitters, and dumb maps / gametypes that are in circulation.

I dealt with cheaters in halo 3 all the time but you know what? Despite the few run-ins I’d do it all over again to have the wonderful system back where I got competitive matches 95% of the time in halo 3.

I’m lucky in reach to find one player even close to my skill level. It either ends up being lag or bad teammates in reach but never legitimate good players like in halo 3 days.

On most playlists/gametypes all my randomly found team-mates seem mentally limited. Good thing I have a team of friends who are usually on- but whenever we are short, almost always-ALWAYS our matched team mates are bad. I feel like I must be the best of the worst to get matched with all the seemingly bad ppl so often.
