Can you play halo 5 without first updating?

I’ve been told that in order to play halo 5 you NEED to download the day 1 patch, I wonder is this true? because if so I have a bunch of friends with no internet connections who would be unable to play because of a stupid restriction

Well I’m sure theyll be able to play if they stay disconnected from the net, but they wont be able to play multiplayer or campaign coop without the update. theyll need to be completely disconnected from the net before they launch the game for the first time too.

They have no internet at all so wouldn’t be able to connect anyways, why would they need to be completely disconnected when they launch it for the first time anyways?

if they don’t need an internet connection to download the patch then they wont need to bring their Xbox’s to my [or another friends] house to download it, which is definitely a good thing [as it would take time away from all of us playing], not that I wouldn’t be willing to do it

I think you have to be connected to Xbox live to even boot up the game

That’s what I’ve heard aswell but it seems completely idiotic and pointless, after all you should have no reason whatso ever to need to connect to the internet when it has a campaign [and this would really screw over fans who have no internet]

You don’t need internet to install games, you only need internet for the day one patch, which is only for multiplayer stuff anyway.

And for people that get the game early, you don’t have to disconnect drom the internet to play, you won’t get banned, they have no right to ban you and they won’t I got a lot of games a week early and haven’t been banned, and the Xbox Support will also tell you that there is no risk of getting banned as long as you have legitimate copy.
And you probably can play multiplayer early because the Day One patch of most games is uploades in advance so it will be available some days before release.

If they have no Internet whatsoever or their parents won’t allow a connection I would think it would run as the game would have no way of knowing that it would be due an update anyway.

It would be a good idea for your friends to connect to the Internet if only once and for nothing else than to update the firmware on the Xbox.

Are your friends deployed or something? In this day and age, the internet is practically a utility.

Will you not? I’ve been told that yo’r xbox would get bricked if you tried to play a game early while connected to the internet [and told that in many cases the games just wont work anyways]

I would imagine [and hope] it would just run, I wouldn’t want them to miss out on the game because they have no internet

though would it really be important to update their Xbox’s?

one of them doesn’t think the internets important so doesnt see why he should buy it, two of them live with their parents who refuse to pay for it and the other two simply cant afford it

No, you won’t, the only way to get banned is by leaking content or playing a pirated or modified copy. MS doesn’t punish customers for a retailers mistake.
And the games do work, I also buy the games for my GF and she has no internet and every game works.

ah right, that’s good then. Some of my friends had been telling me that all xbox games now require some kind of internet connection to run and im glad to see that’s not true.

I’d be lost without an internet connection. Everything is reliant on it here. When there is an outage I don’t know what to do with myself.

The only ones that require internet are games like Titanfall, Destiny and ESO, but well they are multiplayer games so it is necessary.

That used to be the case pre-xbone launch. that decision was reversed before the xbox released

FALSE. while working at gamestop I learned from experience that the game will brick your console after you reconnect to the web. playing an early copy will lock your system up, just like on the 360. Microsoft DOES in fact punish the players for Retailers mistakes, because the retailers have a very strong rooted relationship with Microsoft, and the players are generally secondary, players who “cheat” also including those who access games early are considered expendable. always have been.

Its pretty poor set up.

I am currently at Casey Station in Antarctica.
We have 70 people here and a community Xbox one.
Its pretty much a paperweight, as we cant connect it to our government server, we also pretty much have dial up speed.

Ill have to play it in a few more months, until then ill just use the CD as a coaster for by beer.

DRM sucks.

Holy -Yoink-, what are you doing over in Antarctica? I know this isn’t relevant to the OP but that is freaking awesome.

As for the OP I don’t know if I would advise your friends to even purchase this game without an Internet connection unless a 12 hour solo campaign (Legendary) is worth it to them. You won’t be able to do any sort of coop. I mean maybe a LAN party.

Ik you need it for the multiplayer but do you need the update for a solo campaign? I got cod Cold War and you couldn’t even play the campaign without the recent updates.

Please don’t revive old topics thanks
