I haven’t played halo or xbox in months, i plan to get new halo4 xbox when it comes in November and i was wondering if i would need to buy anniversary to play their awesome looking maps.

Yes you can play anniversary maps in Reach MM. All you need to do is buy the map pack.
Save yourself the money and don’t buy any map packs. Complete waste of time, they never show up. You have to go to the dedicated playlists and they are like a ghost town.
There’s four playlists dedicated to anniversary maps. They also shows up in playlists all of the time for me also!
You can buy the map pack by itself, or you can buy Anniversary and get the map pack included with it. Either way works.
There are about four playlists that use only the Anniversary maps. Outside of those playlists, it’s possible to find Anniversary maps, but (as with all Reach DLC) they can be a tad rare.
The map packs Defiant and Noble rarely show up on Matchmaking. If I were you, I wouldn’t buy them if I hadn’t yet. Save money for Halo 4.
Anniversary map packs show up a lot though, imo. As long as you play on the Anniversary playlists.
Defiant and Noble have some pretty great maps, but aside from the DLC playlists, they don’t come up all that often. Anniversary is definitely worth it, though! The playlists are pretty fun, and I’ve seen them come up a few times in regular Matchmaking!

So have I. There’s either a search preference or the majority of the, remaining, Reach population have bought the map packs.

It’d make sense that those who play the game on a frequent basis would have all of the map packs.
Whenever a DLC map comes up in a regular playlist, usually everybody votes for it!
