Can you guys tell me what you know about Mantis’s, like ways to use them and destroy them.
Plasma pistol.
The Mantis?
The mantis was a giant AA gun in halo 3. You can’t control it, but to destroy it you have to go underneath its legs, wait for the bottom of the turret to open to vent plasma, and then destroy the energy source powering it.

Instakill with an Incineration Cannon.
Use right-trigger to shoot machinegun. It doesn’t need to be reloaded but it can overheat. Use left-trigger to individually shoot rockets or hold the left-trigger to charge a group of rockets to shoot at once. Careful though, the reload takes a little while! Using the right-bumper makes you stomp, killing all nearby enemies in front of you. Don’t stomp with enemies behind you because it takes a second or two to recover from the stomp which is enough time for the enemies to plant a grenade on you. You can crouch while in it, but that doesn’t really help that much.
In order to destroy a mantis, use a plasma pistol to EMP it, causing it to stop moving (just like any other vehicle). You are able to board a mantis from the back and then plant a grenade or melee it until it breaks, but you can’t hijack it and use it for yourself. (Just like the Scorpioin or Wraith.)
To kill a Mantis: Team focus fire from a distance, don’t let up if the shield is down. Plasma Pistol up close.
To survive as a Mantis: play defensively, always wait for your buddies and run when your shield is down. Let the Ghosts and Warthogs come to you.
I meant with UNSC weapons not Foruners and Prometheans but thanks for a High Quality Gun to talk about Jhmgrose.
To use the mantis, hang back and play defensively. Don’t get too confident and don’t push too far. The safer you play, the better.
One does not simply kill a Mantis…
Spartan Lasers, Incineration Cannons, Rocket Launcher, Fuel Rod Guns, Plasma Pistols and Plasma grenades are all effective.

And when all else fails, you can do what I do and jump on back and just punch the Yoink out of it till it explodes!
The Mantis is a pretty versatile vehicle, but it’s best against infantry I think.
Positioning/Tactics
Keep your Mantis at mid-range, with good visibility all around. Try to fight slightly behind your team’s ground troops. They’ll protect you from boarding and can pick off targets for you.
NEVER let the enemy get behind you, and remember that you can swivel the top half of your mech a full 360 degrees. Use that.
Because of the Mantis’s shield, you really want to play as if you were just a really big Spartan, so don’t be shy about taking cover if you need too. If you take proper advantage of this, you can fight your was through multiple engagements with virtually no sustained hull damage.
Weapons
Always keep that chaingun firing, just make sure you don’t overheat it unnecessarily. Use for suppressing fire or to soften up targets for your escort. It’s got a nasty spread, and can only really kill solitary infantry.
The rocket pod is your primary weapon. Use controlled bursts of 1-3 rockets to eliminate infantry/light vehicles, or charge it up to help bring down a tank/enemy Mantis. Avoid leaving just one rocket in the magazine.
The stomp is your last resort attack, use it when charged by the enemy. It has a rather large AOE and is basically an insta-kill on anything directly in front of you.
Anti-Mech Tactics
Trying to kill a properly escorted mantis is painfully hard without a anti-vehicle power weapon. Spartan Laser is of course the best for this, but if you manage to get your hands on an Incineration Cannon a simple suicide run will likely work as well. Plasma grenades work too, but are not nearly as effective. Recognize that if you use the second/third tactic the enemy infantry will probably clean you up.
Taking on a solo Mantis is significantly easier, just wait till the thing isn’t ready for you (ambush/flanking tactics) then charge (jetpack recommended), EMP, and board.
