Can you boost all the way to Champion?

So today like 5 minutes ago i was laying swat and there was a champion on the other team just about every other game. The thing is im only ranked plat in swat and i never faced any Onyx so why would it match me against a champion.
If a champion can use a low level tag in their fire team for easier games i think that party should be matched against players at the skill of the highest rank in that fireteam.

Here’s the thing. I do not like fireteams in ranked. It causes me to lose because I see people who invite others that are of much more experience. I saw a guy in gold rank who invited 2 onyx and one diamond ranked guy which really breaks the system. I thought ranked is about proving what your “actual” rank should be because I don’t think my actual rank is getting my butt kicked by a bunch of onyx players.

were you searching by yourself? because if you were and it matched you against people not near your level then the system is broken.

Even if they try that, both onyx and champions need to win against people around their rank, if they end up playing against someone lower than a diamond they simply dont rank up, but boy do they lose csr if they loose against them.

I like playing against champions and Onyx but i think its unfair for people who do not.
I can do good against Onyx players but champions are on another level.
