Can yall give me some tips or advice on look sensitivity?

Okay so ive been playing since H2 and ive always played on low sensitivity like 3-4 i can be pretty accurate but the downside of course is i look around slow so if someones behind me im more than likely dead. Im trying to play on high sensitivity but its hard for me my accuracy really suffers.

Should i have high sensitivity and low look acceleration? What look sensitivity/acceleration do you play with?

It’s all your own preference. I would say just experiment with different settings in academy against bots (you can set them on higher difficulties if necesarry)

There are pros that play on every sensitivity.

Horizontal - 3
Vertical - 4
Acceleration - 2

I’m Onyx myself and firmly believe the sensitivity where you can reliably hit all your shots (without pressure) is best. Who needs to turn around anyway? When you’re playing good players you’re losing that fight as soon as they’ve got that damage advantage. Better off running in most situations.

I think the best way is to start the sensitivity low. And then every couple of days put it up by 0.5. Make sure you give yourself a solid block of games to get used to it.

Keep an eye on your accuracy to see how you’re tracking. And how it feels.

When you accuracy starts to drop you’ve probably gone too far.

I use acceleration 4, horizontal 6, and vertical 7. I turn really quickly while remaining accurate. My logic as a mouse user is that why turn slow when I can turn fast? People say controller users turn slow. That’s not true if you put in the work to be accurate with a high sensitivity. In fact I’m more accurate with a controller than with a mouse. I suggest working your way down, not up. That’s what I did.

I think I’d be a vomitus vertiginous mess

Out of interest. Why 4? If you are trying to turn quickly shouldn’t it be 5?

I’ve seen a few people have faster vertical movement.

I’ve made my horizontal movement slightly faster on the (probably false) pretence that it works better on a screen that is a wider rectangle.

What’s the logic / advantage to faster vertical aim?

I think it’s more that we don’t have the control coming out of our turns - with your stick pegged full to the left or right. You have to stop turning, center your sticks, and then start aiming again (at least for us mere mortals).

Make sure your deadzones are at their lowest without any drift whatsoever.

For the input threshold, I don’t have that set too high as I’d only need it if the controller isn’t hitting the max sensitivity when I push the right stick to the edge.

Every controller is different in their own right.

This thread made me think I may need to lower mine.

Sometimes when I’m in close up and frantic battle my goes a little wild. Maybe that’s over excitement, maybe that’s over sensitive.

Mostly this. But also see what the pros do too, they’re pro for several reasons and one is their settings.

Acceleration 5 seemed a bit too quick. If it works for someone they should go for it. Turning quickly to a target is mostly down to acceleration in my opinion. Therefore 4 or 5 is preferable. Once you are at the target then you should adjust the horizontal and vertical to your preference. I don’t consider horizontal 6 to be all the high actually. The default is 5 after all. I put the vertical as 7 because I feel it helps me adjust my reticle to someone’s head better especially when they jump. I made this change to my mouse after noticing I kept coming off my mousepad vertically. It improved my headshot accuracy by 15 percent.

Wow!

I’ll have to give it a go.

Vertical > horizontal. Not the ‘7’ bit.

This lists a bunch of the pros’ settings.

It’s really just preference. I have my dead zones on 8.5, inputs at 10, look acceleration at 2.5 and sensitivity at 3 or 3.5. I found my sweet spot by going a little higher on dead zone with no drift and going up by .5 every couple of matches until I wasn’t over aiming or unable to keep my track pretty consistently. I will say that even though I play on a low sensitivity, I’m still more than able to pull a reversal on other players most of the time. Just play around with your settings for a couple of matches and see what you like best. Don’t try doing correction to your settings after each match though. Give it about two or three to really give yourself time to get in the groove of things and then change it if needed. That was my biggest issue when I first started messing with my settings.

The amount of different controls is so massive it’s overwhelming lol. I miss the good old days where it was just look sensitivity. Crank it to 7 and be done :joy:

well what works for others might not work for you, it’s all preference, and it’s all overwhelming,

I never felt comfortable with the aiming in either halo 4, 5 and I don’t do in infinite either, I just never could quite put my finger onto it, something was always felt off to me, and it always felt unnatural while aiming.
But I usually play 3 -Horizontal, 4 - vertical, 3 - acceleration, and my dead zone’s to 6.5. I would advice to play around with it, and experiment, and lower the stick zone just enough so it doesn’t drift.

This video was really, really helpful.

I think maxing Acceleration or putting it near max will help you, don’t sacrifice your accuracy if you play ranked.

I play 8.5 horizontal, 10 vertical (it feels more consistent with the horizontal to me), max Accel
Accel is used to combat having a slow turn speed (not well enough imo)

Im pretty sure the highest any pro is on is 8.5?

If you like playing with low sensitivity then I’d probably stick with it and maybe just play around with look acceleration instead. I had a good hour in bot practice on ODST movement tweaking everything, once Jeff was saying perfect for most kills I figured I was on the right track. I’m currently using FOV 105 with my horizontal and vertical sensitivity at 6.5. For dead zone centres etc watch a YouTube video showing you what it’s all about it really helped me out!

I think you should have as high of a look acceleration as you can and still consistently snap to, not past, targets. Five is too high for most people. Four is perfect for many. Others prefer lower. The combination of look accleration setting and look Max Input Threshold (MIT) determine your turning speed. Don’t underestimate MIT. MIT sets how far from the left and right edges of your stick the turn rate spike (acceleration) starts. The default is 10. I tried so many combinations of settings but have found I’ve never been able to manage any look MIT but 0. With this setting, the turn rate spike happens at the horizontal edges of the stick. The edges give me tactile feedback for the look spike so I can more easily avoid accidentally hitting that spike mid gunfight.

My settings are 4 accel, 8 vert, 8 horizontal, 0 MIT, 0 center, 1.5 axial. I’d recommend giving it a try to see if you like the zero MIT approach.
