Can we work on stockpile sometime this season?

I got to play stockpile for the first time on breaker last night. Despite how nice breaker is of a map, it cannot make up for stockpile being a middling experience compared to CTF, Total Control, or BTB Slayer. I’d like 343 to make modifications to stockpile in one of their upcoming drop pods so that 25% of my BTB experience can be improved significantly. Lets use this thread to pitch ideas about how to improve the mode.

  • Idea 1: 3 rounds of dropping seeds (not starting over like attrition) total, 7 minutes each. There are 5 seeds randomly dropped around the map and spread apart. For those 7 minutes, players compete to have the majority of the 5 seeds of the round in their base. After 7 minutes, whoever has the most seeds wins the round and all seeds are removed. Best 2 out of 3. Getting all 5 immediately wins a round.

  • Idea 2: 1 round, 5 seeds randomly spread on the map. Reverse the combat flow of stockpile and make the objective to put the seeds in the enemy base, and cannot be pulled back out. First to put 3 in the enemy base wins.

  • Idea 3: 3 seeds total, spread over contested ground in the middle of the map (on Fragmentation this could even be behind the AI-locked doors). Placing each seed in your base gives you 1 point/second. First team to 200 points wins.

What’s wrong with the mode the way it is?

The primary problem I have with stockpile is the seed dumping. Having a large amount of seeds dropping in one spot causes the gamemode to center around just several large fights, and if you lose/win them, the game snowballs quickly towards whomever the winner of the fight is. This problem is compounded when your teammates are giving a half-hearted attempt towards the objective. If you’re going to the objective when your teammates aren’t interested, you’re juggling seeds and that’s not particularly fun. Conversely, if you’re the teammate not caring about the objective, you might as well just be playing slayer. I think spreading the seeds out provides more opportunity for a competitive match.

Stockpile feels poorly balanced to me. There’s too high risk, too little reward for stealing power cells.

My suggestion would be to not ping the team until a core is actually taken out, make it quicker or, if it stays same time make it so if a core is taken out then a core cannot be placed in that slot for a period of time like 30-45s.

Would make stealing actually worthwhile as right now it’s basically pointless.
