Can we unlock all Armor for players?

And this is a problem i’ve had with both Halo 3 and 4. Forcing players to play multiplayer for armor unlocks. Yeah, I know in 3 it was the only place you could use it. But, eh, I don’t like online play or multiplayer being forced on me to get everything out of my game.

I mean, Reach did this fantastically. You can unlock just about everything offline, with no problem. You could play Campaign, or Firefight, to your hearts content for everything.

But really, bottom line, and I know people will disagree with me. I don’t find grinding for commendations in multiplayer or Spartan Ops fun, so why not just unlock all armor asides from DLC. (Though make that buyable down the line.)

Really, I see no harm in it. Yeah, it would be irksome for someone who grinded their butt off to get some of these armors, but I think it would be refreshing not to be forced to do specific things in MM or SpOps for armor or stances. Or bloody Emblems.

Gears 3 did this to me recently, and honestly, I think it’s better for it.

Update: This is mainly about commendation unlocked armor. The ones from averagely leveling up and specializations are fine. They’re unlockable either by Campaign challenges, Spartan Ops, and Multiplayer, so they’re not really restrictive on how you get what you want.

Everything except for specialisation armour, I would hate a level 20 wearing rogue or pathfinder, for example

One aspect people overlook, is the fact that it would help stop people who only join a game just to rush out, get the First Strike then quit, and start another game just to get the First Strike commendation quicker.

Stop and think. Which is easier to do, 1st strike then play 20 minutes to finish, or 1st strike, quit. Then get another first strike count 5 minutes later?

like it or not. Commendations force some into cheating, and it happens a lot more than people realize.

If you aren’t willing to work for your armour, then it shouldn’t mean as much to you what armour you’re wearing.

No. I want to earn armor. Not have it given to me.

Well you can earn them by playing Spartan ops. Alone playing earns you 3k exp for single game.

I don’t get why people don’t just play Flood if they want more First Strike medals. You can potentially get 3 in one match, plus flood is quick, so seems stupid to do what you described, if people do that.

I pretty much agree with this ^^^

> Well you can earn them by playing Spartan ops. Alone playing earns you 3k exp for single game.

You can only earn a few things from Spartan Ops.

Plus, the ones you get from just leveling up is fine. But there are things for covenant, forerunner, or UNSC weapon mastery, or playing Slayer 500 times or Dominion 250 times.

While it’s not as bad as Gears 3 was, Gears did the awesome thing and let you earn things in private matches. Where if you wanted to work away at a unlock by yourself, unfettered by others- you could.

Still, it’s just busy work. If unlocking armor was done by anything interesting, and didn’t force me to try and play game modes I don’t like, it could work. But no, it’s basically telling you to kill time on a game, playing a mode or using a weapon you don’t like. Or is just impractical. (Plasma pistol.)

People do that? Sad!

I’ve played over 3000 War Games and I haven’t completed the First Strike commendation yet. I only have 17 First Strike’s to go though as over the past two weeks I set up a First Strike load-out and there are about seven maps which depending whether or not I spawn red or blue I know what I have to do to get First Strike. If I fail, I just select my preferred load-out for that map/game-type before re-spawning to continue playing the game.

OT,I would be disappointed if armor was unlocked for everyone having had to earn teh Gungnir armor.

Most commendations will happen naturally over time anyway but, depending on one’s play style, commendations such as First Strike may never be completed for a lot of people. I have had to alter my play style for the start of a game to accommodate the completion of the commendation.

What im getting from OP is that he doesn’t like playing MM, but wants all the cool armour.

You can only see your armour in SpOps and War Games, so what is the point in having the armour if you are not going to see it?

I see it. All the time. It’s what our Spartan Playing Cards are for.

Even then, I sometimes sojourn into multiplayer. It’s fine as it is, but I don’t like being forced to play one certain type of thing, or try specifically to get assassinations or first strikes to get a nice thing.

I bit the bullet for Venator because Dead space is badass, but the rest? No bueno.

So you want the fancy armor, but don’t want to put in the effort to get it because its boring and you don’t like it?

No, I want to be able to get the fancy armor by not being forced to do crap I don’t enjoy. Forced to use covenant weapons? WHAT A GREAT IDEA.

Forced to play Slayer or Dominion for some armor. OH HOW WONDERFUL. Too bad, I may not like slayer, and prefer Dominion and rather play that. OR, quite the opposite, I want to play Slayer but not Dominion.

If everything was unlockable by leveling up, that’d be fine. But forcing me to play Multiplayer or Spartan Ops for one thing I find neat should not be the case.

I understand that half the argument is that ‘you’ want your Spartan to look nice.
But lets face it, the main reason is to show it off. For instance, people use the gold visor or the Mk 6 helmet to show everybody that they have done legendary.
I personaly don’t need to see the helmet to know i have done it,its all for show.

You may not enjoy it, but you do it because you want the armor. I may not enjoy going through Spops Episodes 30,000,000 times just to get Orbital Aeon, but I do it because I want the armor. You either suck it up and do it or don’t get the armor at all. I didn’t like the Lone Wolf Achievements in Halo 3. I despised them and that playlist! But because I wanted pretty Elite armor, I sucked it up and after about 200 matches, I got it.

I don’t play games to do things I don’t enjoy. And honestly, that shouldn’t be the case. While I let the Halo 3 thing slide then because there was no alternate to seeing your custom Spartan, there is now. And I really don’t find it acceptable, especially when it’s a bit of a step back in freedom of how you did things.

Wouldn’t you have preferred to not have to do something you despised for that armor?

> I understand that half the argument is that ‘you’ want your Spartan to look nice.

Yeah. I do want my Spartan to look nice. But, I don’t want to do things I don’t enjoy to get those nice things.

Again, Reach. You could do anything, get points, level up, and buy what you wanted. And my god, those levels were a bit too long and grindy, but you had freedom of what you wanted to do for what you wanted.

Love multiplayer but want a badass Spartan. Go ahead. Enjoy. Enjoy shooting it up with your friends in Firefight or Campaign? Have fun. Like forging, eh, here we’ll give you a bit for that too.

But being forced to do specifics that just clash with how I play, or want to play for such things, it’s a bit asinine.

no

But…making armor more skill based is better and stoping grinds. Like certain commendations like weapons master or perfections master. Then basing them off achievements.

To be quite honest, it isn’t 343’s fault that you don’t like somthing, its yours.

Also, life in general is filled with people doing things they don’t want to do to get the things they want.
Not everybody is lucky enough to have a job they enjoy, but the do it to keep a roof over their heads and to put food on the table.

I don’t really like the idea of commendations because they encourage grinding, but at least they’re easier to complete now than in Reach. Reach was a nightmare.

I prefer when armor is unlocked after completing certain achievements.

There’s more satisfaction in it when you have to pull off a spectacular feat in matchmaking rather than get 1000 kills with a certain weapon…
