They should change how aim assist works to be more like MCC, but maybe not quite as strong.
Movement inertia should be increased as well. Strafing is janky/you can change directions too fast. Strafing used to be a skill, now it’s effortless to spam strafe in different directions haphazardly to throw someone’s aim off. I also prefer a slightly more weighty feel to gameplay in general. It makes you feel more grounded and forces you to be more methodical.
I’m a bit confused of how no one mentioned this during internal testing. Since the first open tech test threads have been popping up regarding this issue.
I hope this gets addressed or at least more customization options for the players is added. I can pick up MCC, Doom or Apex and it instantly feels good. Why can’t it be the same way for Infinite?
I believe you seriously underestimate how sensitive these controls can actually be. You can have such miniscule stick drift that you don’t even notice that it’s there because it’s non-impactful, but the system still registers input which means it will just always have aim assist on.
no it doesnt. I can assure you it is aim assist. Why? because its bidirectional when the reticle was moving. If it was stick drift it would have been unidirectional. Ive played controller for my whole life. I would know the difference and there is no need to tell me what is right. If it was stick drift it wouldve drifted off the player and into one direction, which could have been left or right.
Back in the beta stages, a few clips began circulating around Twitter. One being the infamous XQC screaming that he wasn’t even touching his controller, and the other being a clip where a streamer was away from him controller and the aim assist locked onto someone in the background.
SOME of the M&K community went ballistic over this and began claiming that controller players didn’t even need to aim and that the game was unfair. 343i likely saw this and thought “Well, some players say it’s too powerful and other say it’s too weak. It must be in a good spot” and left it.
The main problems with this is that the clips the two streamers have can’t be replicated. I tried multiple times during the beta, it couldn’t be done. This either means that PC controller has way more aim assist, or XQC and this streamer were using external software to give them extra aim assist (is now currently possible with the use of the latest mods, and is why in WarZone they litter the map with humanoid looking mannequins as it tricks the software into locking onto that)
343i also generally used M&K to test Halo Infinite. Controllers were likely an after thought, which is why the issues weren’t picked up by 343i.
As someone who has also been playing on controller his entire life I can assure you that is not how that works. If drift is small enough to not affect your normal aim, but still register on the controller when dead zones are set to zero then while you’re aiming at a Target, aim assist is on and your reticle is not going to move. You are going to stay on that Target because it’s not going to be enough to pull it off. That’s how the sticky magnetism of aim assist works in infinite.
Interesting then that is quite an enlightening comment. Never knew this was even a thing. Thanks for letting me know but does that mean it only plays a role in activating aim assist but not increasing it?
its definitely only on pc controller. Aim assist is actually the same on console but the key differing factor is the FPS. What apex did to combat this was put aim assist for pc at 0.4 and console at 0.6. Another contributing factor to the feeling and responsiveness of aim assist is input delay and the hardware to push to fps. Thats the problem with the game that the devs continually refuse to address. This is why i dislike controller on pc. Console aim assist is what im all for because of the disadvantages u have to deal with on console and not on PC. The game is overall rushed and trust me both inputs were an afterthought. Input delaying and input mashing causes some clicks or input presses to misreg and there are also issues that are server sided. This game is a mess and 343 cannot fix them. The technical debt would take a very long time given their staff leaving and unstable management and workflow.
Yeah it should just be activating aim assist and the current settings for aim assist with the reticle magnetism while on target would be able to keep you on target if it is an absolute minuscule amount of stick drift. It doesn’t increase it, but it certainly makes it look a lot worse than what people think it is.
Right now the current setup for aim assist is only helping you while you’re already aimed at the Target. It’s not helping you get on target which is what aim assist is supposed to be for. Due to the lack of a radius around the target for aim assist to activate it’s now super easy to just flick the stick off the target when trying to aim or pass right by. You have to already be lightly aiming and moving your sticks to activate aim assist and get it to work properly. This is a terrible setup because you’re trying to quickly move your stick around to get on target and stay on with this extreme strafe speed which makes aiming so incredibly hard with this particular aim assist system. That’s why it feels so terrible on controller. Especially when compared to any past Halo title.
that i agree with then and makes total sense. Im a hybrid player so im both mnk and controller. Problem is both sucks real time. This game was just rushed and I just stopped playing it entirely. Hopefully they do fix it for the few players that are left in the game. Thats what the halo community at a bare minimum deserve. Best wishes bro.
I played in the HCS infinite open tournament this weekend, and I rank high onyx on controller, champion rank in Halo 5. You know what teams won? Mouse and keyboard. And I tried my hardest. Worst part is I watched the replay of every match. The way that they could snap onto my face with their reticle at a distance was unbelievable. They were on keyboard and mouse, their accuracy was 20 percent better than mine, in the high 70s. The way I strafe and move myself on infinite makes aim assist almost non existent.
I’ll say it repeatedly, console needs aim assist put back where it was on 4 and 5. Or gameplay especially tournaments need the option of no cross play. I have nothing against keyboard and mouse players, but to be in a tournament and know that you’re good just to get slapped around like a diamond rank to keyboard and mouse. Just copying this from another post to make it all apparent. I barely notice aim assist at all. This tournament was only a couple days ago.
just from this statement right here is incorrect. Redditor actually pulled the accuracy stats of the top 100 mnk vs top 100 controller and controller only ever gets to the 70% accuracies. Mnk never gets those lol. If u think that is the case and the advantages outweigh controller, i recommend u try it and struggle to get to a high level. I can really tell ur bs’ing a lot of what is said in ur comments.
That is The only problem, but I have adapted my style and awareness to try to combat this. The worst is if someone jumps over you say from a higher point than me……then I’m dead lol
Yeah I made up the games stat report, are you kidding? I couldn’t make that up if I wanted to. Go off reddit all you want, I was talking about the stats after the game that were IN GAME. NOT REDDIT.
I have never experienced this. Maybe your skills weren’t up to the competition or they had better coordination. Again there is a reason why none of the top teams are using mouse and keyboard.
Don’t take it personally. I think one of HCS tournaments had a team called something like “Mouse Handicap” made of former pro MKB players from other games. They did well but were no match for the controller pros and they specifically mentioned aim assist as being a problem.
