Can We Please Talk About Campaign *SUPER SPOILERS*

So the title really says it all… What does everyone think? Am I even allowed to talk about this? I’m too busy playing Warzones to read any rules.

Anyway, I recently beat Halo 5: Guardians and just need to talk about it. I sort of saw the villain coming from a million miles away and then after the purpose of the Guardians were revealed, I couldn’t help but think that Halo 5: Guardians took more than a little bit of influence from the Mass Effect series. Also, what was up with that whole superiority complex from you know who? She wasn’t always like that… so I wonder what happened on her way to the Domain. Anyway, let’s talk specific folks! What you liked, didn’t like, etc.

For me personally… I’m not entirely sure what to think. As of right now, I think that the campaign is not long enough in order for me to formulate a proper opinion. It almost feels like there has to be campaign DLC coming, which I am all for. The cliffhanger seemed way more cliffhanger-y than Halo 2… and that is saying something. Also… that Legendary ending? I mean what? Anyway, let’s get this discussion rolling!

I have to say ive got mixed feelings on it, especially after all the hype regarding hunt the truth and ONI being ONI in general, and wanting to see more of that in the game. But crazy AI though… I dont get why she became like that, something to do with the domain? It was made by the enemy of the forerunners but maybe 343 have left off that path. And yeah that ending! Shes not activating it is she? Because that would make no sense to me

So i just finished the campaign and there is some things that i really like and there is somethings i disliked. The thing that bugged me most was the looks of Cortana, i am a big fan of Halo 4 history and the looks Cortana had there. you could really see the “feels” in her face. But in halo 5 she looked in my opinion wierd, yes she sayed that she had changed but still.
The thing that suprised me the most was the story, i din’t do much research of the game beforehand since i wanted the full experience without anny spoilers. I tought that MC was gonna rescue and get together with cortana again, but they really supriced me. Still hoping for that on the next game tho.
The other bit that was a bit annoing is the group MC is traveling with. I like it when MC is the badass all alone killing everything.
But the biggest downfall is not be able to play the singleplayer with my brother like we have done on all the other games. taking the coop mode in singleplayer i think is the worst part.
Other than that i think the game looks great and it feels of a Halo game, had a great fun playing it. And really love Nathan Fillion as Buck, just to bad he isn’t the leader of the group.

And I had hoped for all the hinters in the book to certain characters returning would actually happen, which to me would make for a better finale than what i expect is coming…

Im a little …well…thrown? The way the game was depicted in the trailers and other official sources were very different from what we got ( not a bad thing ) like seeing chief almost cetainly about to kill Locke and vise versa with Infinity burning in the background? I honestly think the villain needed a bit more of an explenation as to the changes theyd gone through to become such a cold and calculating …machine. Also I know Blue team have a huge and detailed history in the books etc…but Osiris got all the lime light in regards to being “fleshed out” . Blue team might as well of been 3 randoms as far as character development goes.

This is actually the idea Bungie originally had for Cortana in Halo CE. It’s a theme that was mirrored in Marathon, and it’s interesting to see 343i go there. Personally, I have mixed feelings about the story. I’ve always loved the pairing of John and Cortana, and to have them conflict with each other has me uneasy. I understand the logic behind it (it’s what happened with both Mendicant Bias when he went rampant), I just don’t like it for personal reasons. It’s almost like I would have rather had anyone BUT Cortana be the villain. Regardless, the story had be shocked and excited to see the next game, and that’s really all we can ask for.

I’m not really reading the content of this thread but I like fighting Warden Eternal. There’s something very ominous and scary about fighting him.

And I pretty much called what happened to Cortana prior to the game’s release.

I highly doubt she would go there to activate the halo ring. That would not really bring about the “peace” she wants, nor the mantle, because everyone would be wiped out.

But consider what is probably contained on that Halo ring. Consider the horror it was when you first found out the first time you played Halo CE mission 343 Guilty Spark.

I firmly believe that is a big reason why she is there (if in fact thats what her humming implied). Not only does she have the guardians to obliterate worlds and civilizations, but she now also has a “leash” of which to contain the flood with.

I like how humanity lost this time around. Cortana literally has like 80 guardians, all the prometheans, most of the UNSC fleet, and thousands of hyper intelligent AI. And humanity has 8 (addmitedly amazing) Spartans, the Infinity, the Swords of sanghelios… And that’s it. Its crazy to think that we have absolutely no idea what’s happening on earth or any of the other colonies now that comms are dead. For all anyone knows, guardians already destroyed earth. Plus that legendary ending! Why’s Cortana want a halo ring??

Oooohhh… THAT would be interesting. It would kinda be reminiscent of the Graveminds vision of peace through turning everyone into flood. I could totally see it happening, and it would be a sensible way to bring flood back.

I absolutely loved the campaign, and I find myself enjoying it much more than any other halo campaign. That being said, 343 should have explained the story a lot better. The villain needs to be explained. Why are they like that? Why did they become like that? It’s hard to swallow the story because it’s hard to believe that the villain would do those things and become like that, I mean, they’ve been an ally to humanity for like, forever. It’s a bit overwhelming.

Yeah all the marketing was completely false, was wrong…you could even say they lied to us. But I’m not blaming them or find that negative, because I enjoyed the campaign, although I enjoyed a full Chief campaign like Halo 4 way more, than this split. But I can see why they made it like they did.

To Cortana, I posted this in another thread, so just gonna copypaste. Too lazy. XD

I myself believe it’s not the original Cortana that just went crazy and world domination seeking, even tho the idea exists since before Halo 1 release. It was actually one of the earlier drafts that Cortana would take control of the Ring and seek world domination. XD
But something doesnt add up for you. Cortana showed in no way any hate towards humanity. You misunderstood that part. She wants to save humanity, every other race, by reducing their freedom. Kinda what is the trend these days…same thing happened in Naruto Shippuuden and other games/movies. Anyway, Cortana doesnt hate humanity like Didact does. he really wants to destroy it. Cortana wants to preserve.
But what else doesnt add up is her character development. I just dont buy it. Something happened to her to make her like this. Maybe she fused with the Didact or he manipulated her somehow before he went away. I think it has a good reason why you can see the Didact’s symbol on her clothes…and clothes in general. Naked Cortana is the good one, clothed Cortana is bad. I know this theme from somewhere else, where a character turned evil once he was clothed. It is more important than just a visual change.
And her speaking about the mantle and stuff…and about Halesy. Come on, she sounded more like Osman or something. She never thought about Halsey as a monster because of the things she did to John. Only in her rampant form in Halo 4…and that lets me come to the thought: that this here is Cortana’s rampant form and her true form is still sealed or hidden somewhere. Either in her matrix or somewhere else. And either all die in Halo 6 or happy ending with her normal self being released to save the day.

WOW! Just… WOW.

Ya they said it was the longest campaign yet… Yet it was only… What? 15 misisons? That was disappointing. And the elephant in the room (Split Screen Removal)

Otherwise It looked great. Felt great.

A little disappointed that some missions are simply walking around a friendly encampment.

I hope, in Halo 6, they bring Cortana down from her power trip and we get our Cortana back! Something that makes sense hopefully. Maybe she creates a physical (augmented? organic?) body so she can really interact with the chief.

(I still think the Didact is scittering around out there somewhere.)

Will we get a Spartan Ops season 2 for halo 5? Or halo 6? Why call the first one Season 1 if you don’t intend to add to it?

Maybe its one of her rampant personality cores and the real Cortana is still out there somewhere? (More powerful than crazy rampant Cortana?)

Well, in the Intel found throughout the game it reveals that the domain had been somewhat corrupted over the many years since it was destroyed when the halo arrays fired. Remember in Halo CE when Cortana gets all loopy when you first put her into the control room terminal because of the sheer amount of information? Her accessing the domain was that times 1000. That combined with the fact that the domain was “tainted” screwed her up a lot.

Ok, so if you didn’t buy the deluxe edition You dont have “The fall of reach,” which if haven’t read the book has a lot of detail. Now say im new to the Series. (Which im not im a 15 year veteran.), There was little to no character development for Blue team at all!, Either it was intentional to make Cortana a crazy psycho. Oh BY THE WAY! she tried to stop 343 and the didact for doing the same crap, i mean WTF! Multi player is excellent but taking the Crucial narrative needed for a game away to focus on multiplayer will turn this Sega into Call of Duty all over again. I hope Halo 6 will have at least 30 mission if they keep mission the same length. I mean 4/15 of these mission were basically cutscenes. Don’t get me wrong this is the best game of 2015 by far, and possibly my favorite. But i was expecting MUCH more detail in the story. Cortana went from, Dead to terrorism expert in 1 game. good lord!

It pained me to see Cortana die at the end of Halo 5.
I wished they bring her back, but I also was afraid she’d become kinda a villain… Damn…
Right now I’m so confused… The Mantle to the Created? Oh man…
Right now - HOW AM I GONNA SURVIVE ANOTHER FEW YEARS TO SEE HOW STORY CONTINUES?

IDK about you guys, but I really liked it this time around. I try not to think about things from just a perspective from the end of the game. I try to think of the experience, and my mindset I had going through it. Like I so many things got me hyped like the fight tension between Locke and Chief. I mean “Like hell you are”!! Like was I the only person awake during that part of the campaign or did you guys not care about that part? Why isn’t anyone talking about more parts like that?

Being the huge Halo fan I am, the little stuff made me feel euphoric. Buck’s jokes had me struggling for air. We FINALLY got to kill Jul. Cortana trying to get in Osiris’ heads was too great. Seeing Chief/Blue Team be reunited with Halsey AND The Arbiter was a great place to leave The Chief at IMO. Genesis was soooo beautiful. I loved every bit of Exuberant Witness (At first I was alarmed because it was a monitor, but I grew to really like it.) . And my god… The part when Osiris makes that jump with the Guardian to Genesis and must go down it was so fun.

The Campaign was fun and the story was great.

I can understand where Cortana and The A.I. are coming from. They are born to pretty much die. Kind of like us, because they are designed from/by us. They of course have the will to prevent their deaths, just like us. Through the Domain, and the Guardians’ powers, they can live forever and do the thing they were designed to do, protect/serve us humans. They/She is just doing the thing they were created to do in the way that they ‘think’ is right.

They’re already setting up Halo 6 very nicely. One side has Cortana, all the A.I., and everything that they control such as ships and Prometheans, and not to mention, Guardians. The other side being the smartest Human in the universe, the 8 best Spartans in the universe, the Infinity with all of its tech and army inside, and the Elites (+The Arbiter.) . But in the middle of it all, there’s wild cards such as the Didact, the Flood, and the Halo rings. I’m already hyped.

That line by chief right before he socked Locke in the face was so bad -Yoink-!Also, I lost my -Yoink- when Cortana was taunting Vale at the end and vale just shrugs it off with an awesome “that’s SPARTAN Vale to you”

The campaign is fun.
