Can we please start penalizing guest quitters

there is nothing more annoying than getting paired up with a player and their guest on an objective gametype, only for them to quit before the match has even started, turning it into a spawn camp session, please don’t say “maybe they have something to do on the outside world” because i open their gamertag and their activity says “searching for another match”. They’re ruining everyone’s experience, something must be done in halo 4.

any ideas?

The join in progress function Should solve that problem.

Join in progress in Objective sounds awful.

I acually just got out of a match with this problem. Me and my friend almost won. While it is still possible, it is alot harder to win after they leave.

In Halo: Reach there was a slot machine penalty for those who quit. That was enough to stop me from quitting but there will always be little Yoinks who quit mid-game, that is always and forever be a problem for online games.

IMO guests should only be paired with other guests/very new players.

But that would actually require a decent matchmaking system. Hopefully 343 can do it.

Can we please have seperated playlists? Good players in one, the don’t care players in another, and the playlist guests can only play in.

Really? A “good players” playlist?

…are you serious?

I’d love to see the system use quitting as part of the matchmaking criteria.

If quitters were paired with other quitters more often (and vice versa) the system would at least be more fair.

I think split screeners should only be paired with other split screeners. For examples of teams of four:

  1. A player and a single guest should either play with another player and guest or play against a player and a single guest.
  2. A player and two guests should only play against teams with a player and two guests.
  3. Obviously a team of a player and 3 guests should only play a team of a player and 3 guests.

I know people like to bro out on their couch and play some Halo and that’s fine, but split screeners ruin a lot of the fun for everyone else. And if the system I outline was in affect it would be better for every one.

Well with the new skill base ranking anyone that has a guest that can’t get kills should hopefully effect there skill ranking, and hopefully quiting effects the skill ranking too.

Guests can’t play ranked?

I wouldn’t mind a search option that filters out People with guests.

Sounds impossible.

It’s just like having a search option that filters out people with out mics.

It’s easy, instead of having it check for mic, it checks for more than one player on the Xbox, and if any of those players are guests.

Honestly I believe there should be a big penalty for quitting. Quitters have made Halo Reach BTB/Invasion/Objective seriously pathetic to play. I can go all night playing BTB and not ever play a serious game b.c. half of the other team quits in the first 3 minutes. I don’t know if it has to do with the no ranking or what, but seriously they should have XP taken away. And I mean a significant amount. If 343i is serious they shouldn’t -Yoink–foot around with this b.c. anyone that has played BTB/Invasion knows exactly what I’m talking about. I really like the fact they’re doing a join-in progress feature but I still think people should be penalized, and if it isn’t harsh people won’t care. Still, the people who have half their team quit are going to be under-manned for at least a minute… which is plenty time to get spawn trapped.

That’s probably never going to happen since fans have enough problems with 343i yoinking useful playlists since the august update.

I agree, yesterday I played with guests in a 4v4, they insta quitted on my team, 2v4 and we barely won.
Next game I lost by 2 kills because my guests went -27. worst part is this guy was a reclaimer rank on Reach. I hate guests, especially ones who quit, they use 2 spaces or more and waste them, so they should be penalised like they have quit 2 games if 2 guests quit.

Lol, a “good players” playlist. Made me chuckle.

Anyway, there will always be quitters or people who troll other players by team killing, stealing vehicles to give them to the enemy etc. Any penalty imposed will not matter to them. That is evident in the way they play the game.

You, as a serious player (serious as in you want to play within the spirit of the game), will care whether or not you lose xp, or a rank, if you quit too many times or are reported for bad conduct. The people who deliberately join online games to troll others do it because they find it to be fun. Progression through the game means nothing to them. So what if they lose xp? That’s not what they were playing for.

The only real way to punish them would be to take away their ability to play the game at all. Incrementally increasing bans might, repeat might, solve the problem.

The system could be;

15 minute ban (your connection might have caused you to quit too many times. Not technically your fault, but it has ruined the gaming experience for others.

24 hour ban (you’ve quit/been reported enough for bad sportsmanship that you’ve become a real nuisance.)

7 day ban (You’re so persistent in your transgressions that you’ve been reported enough to warrant a hefty penalty.)

IP ban (This is why you can’t have nice things…). An alternative would be to ban the machine from playing online.
