Can we just talk about how awful the core gunplay in this game is?

been grinding through the Season 2 Battle Pass a bit lately, its shocking to me just how annoying all the starting guns in this game are.

Pistol is just a freaking lottery cannon, because of the high amount of bloom and seemingly no cap to how fast you can spam it.

Assault Rifle is basically a power weapon, can’t tell you how many times I use a Cammando or BR for an AR user to kill me across the map, its bsted beyond any other Halo game.

Battle Rifle is just too easy to use in this game. Competitive in particular suffers because there isn’t a high enough skill gap between two BR users.

Grenades are heat seaking missiles, too many times I get hit with a grenade from like 5-10 feet away and it does massive damage and I get cleaned up.

Melees in general are not very fun. Like what is the point of melees exactly in Halo? Because as far as Infinite is concerned only real purpose is to force trades repeatedly, which makes for boring battles.

I keep hearing daily people ask for desync to be addressed, or the netcode, or the ranking system, etc. Yet most things are nebulous issues with unclear resolutions. 343i could fix the core gameplay loop (ala the sandbox) in a matter of days, yet I’m only hearing crickets on this issue.

so it seems to me you don’t like halo lol
grenades + melee + power weapons
golden triangle of halo
grenades take out power weapons
power weapons take out melee
melee takes out grenades
lastly
since Halo reach it has been the general consensus that infinite has the strongest bedrock for gameplay… weapon tuning will come
damage tuning will come
gameplay is solid though hence why i get the feeling Halo isn’t for you

their existed Halo games before Infinite

right and have you played them because your critiques seem like a series wide thing
ar is most certainly not op, they nerfed it a few time now
play the other halo games and then critique bloom, they are all pretty egregious so its kind of a series staple
grenades do not follow you… period… i mean there really is no other way to say it
br has always been a little op and the debate around rages on to this day
pistol is not ment to be a br replacement like in halo 5, so bloom is to be expected
melee is the same feel as every other halo,… shoot at guy… oh poop im out of ammo… get over here… that about sums it up

we have never seen an AR as powerful as the current one, you are already wrong.

that’s what I just did…

i see so what you r issue is, is likely the reticle being so small its hard to account for the bloom,… also aiming is kind wonkey for some reason…
ar was a power weapon in halo 4 not infinite… halo 5s ar was weaker but still narly in a battle
infinite was the most balenced id say
halos 3 and reach the ar was useless in mp

you don’t know what you are talking about, I think this discussion is a bit too much for you.

try again
thats not a point thats a cop out friend

The guns themselves aren’t the issue so much as the aiming and all of the associated bugs. I actually think the sandbox and gunplay is solid. If (and it’s a big if) the other issues were sorted I don’t think these would be as much of an issue.

My point is if they fixed Desync tomorrow Infinite’s core gameplay loop would still be infuriating/annoying. Pickup weapons seem fine, but starting weapons are horrible. Every death feels cheap, every kill feels unrewarding.

I understand the point you were making - I just disagree with it. I find the feedback loop and kills very satisfying - I just can’t stand to play the game anymore because of all of the issues that ruin the experience, as well as the lack of content.

I say that as a giant halo fan and a fan of 343s games.

well ya i kinda gathered that much from your critique…
my counter point is that this is the best gameplay loop since reach and that’s a statistical fact. the sheer amount of voice given to that fact is really quite surprising when the game came out
now that is to say its the core gameplay loop, meaning the loop has never changed
again
grenades + power weapons + melee
thats why when you say the loop isn’t good at all, it calls into question for anyone reading if you even like halo at all
your critiquing the core gameplay loop that has existed since halo CE
say what you want about tuning and features you’d like to say but if the core gameplay is not good to you then maybe this is the wrong game for you

This is correct but the AR still isn’t OP. It is just decent, thats it. Previous ARs were beyond trash and almost never worth using. Infinite’s is finally decent.

Exactly. There’s a very fine line between overpowered and worth a damn

I can see how one could consider the AR’s presence in the weapon sandbox of Halo Infinite as moderately oppressive, but overpowered isn’t relative. I don’t see any major differences in the combat loop whatsoever.

I don’t know why that was a reply but alright lmao

In his defence, the gaming community has kinda agreed with him since an overwhelming majority who tried infinite left, despite the gameplay.

So unless the voiceless majority returns…he kinda got a point.

id argue the people left because of the failure that is the live service and the lack of stuff to do
not the gameplay… it just got old and quick when there was nothing to do

Well that’s kinda my point ain’t it?

Mario Kart on SNES has the exact same gameplay but people never get bored with it. It’s one of those games you keep coming back too almost 30 years later with a smile.

No new content, no live service.

People left infinite after 3 months.

I’d agree with the other dude, most people seemed to have left because of bugs surrounding the game. I’ve mostly seen people say that the game is good, but the glitches and bugs make it difficult to unbearable to play.
