Halo Reach and Halo 4 introduced a new standard of paper composite cardboard plating for all vehicles, tanks that lose their primary weapon, snipers that can demolish any vehicle with a few shots and warthogs that tend to be death traps after using it for more than 30 seconds. These vehicles used to require coordination, and a bit of skill to beat, but recently all it took was a few shots from a sniper, or if the vehicle was already on fire, then some DMR shots would clean them up.
Please, we need healthy vehicle combat for BTB/Objective games. Halo 2/3 was the pinnacle of vehicle combat; they were tough, decent damage output while being vulnerable to a coordinated team or other vehicles.
Agreed. Vehicles were there for the sake of being tougher to kill assets. Especially now given the increased mobility of Spartans vehicles should return to being more powerful options for a team.
I didn’t even consider getting into a vehicle unless it could one shot kill someone because they were glass cannons for the most part. Even tanks could only take like 2-3 stickies before dying and that’s just not cool. Go back to the original health system or make the vehicles actually tough to take down, but you can chip away at it over time.

Yes, constant fire should chip away at the vehicle, but I still don’t like how they turn into a great ball of fire, Halo 3 had a near-perfect setup, once you take out all the armour, it becomes 1 sticky to kill the vehicle, but still durable enough to harass the enemy without blowing up from a sneeze.

Somewhat yes. Though it’s still better if the vehicle is linked to the driver in it.
And it’s also important that you could still take out the people inside and keep the vehicle intact and usable unlike now.
I always felt like Halo 3 struck a great balance for vehicle combat. They vehicles were destructible, but they were durable enough to make holding onto vehicles important similar to CE. As long as you could drive a vehicle it was always useful, in Reach/H4/H2A smoking/flaming vehicles were deathtraps, but in Halo 3(and Halo 2) they were still a threat(albeit slightly more vulnerable).
Halo 3 also had a better balance between Precision and auto weapons when it came to vehicles. Precision weapons were used for disabling drivers/gunners while auto weapons like the AR were better at doing direct damage to vehicles. There is zero good reason for the premier anti-infantry weapon like the sniper to also be given ridiculous vehicle damage like it has in recent games. Anti-Material =/= Anti-Armor/Air. Few things are more frustrating than watching your vehicle blow up after getting hit by a hitscan precision weapon from across the map.

I wasn’t talking about me.
Also, lol frag grenades… As if they ever hit covenant vehicles…
You try grabbing the plasma grenades and making it back to home base when there are 4 vehicles circling your spawns.

What do you mean lol frags? I have no problems predicting driver’s movements and hitting them with one to tip them over and bide me valuable time.

You can argue skill all day but I’m not discussing a competitive scenario.
Nobody is good enough to fend off two Warthogs, one Wraith, and a Revenant circling their base, just because they’re good at shooting and throwing frag grenades. They’re going to die for trying to engage them at all.

Hmm who says skill is relevant to only a competitive stage?
Tank vehicles are special and were not included in this initial discussion.
You don’t entirely play for fun, you want to do what you are able and win the game. Unless you intend to lollygag about.
Are you just proving that you want to twist words in order to look good on this thread?

Not me.

Tanks are vehicles. A discussion about ‘Halo vehicles’ almost certainly entails tanks.
I would think anything that can be driven is a valid contender for this discussion.

I have ADHD. I genuinely cannot form complete thoughts in one try because of my hyperactive thought patterns.
Maybe you should wait before replying to me so I can finish my post. Rest assured, the end result of my post is what I initially planned to say. I’m not trying to twist anything. Does that make things a little more clear?

I mean what between you and me were talking about with frag grenades. Of course you can’t tackle a tank vehicle with that alone unless you got the element of stealth.
Whether a player can overcome a problem with the tools provided is still up to them, regardless of the type of game they are playing. However there was always an answer to vehicle play in H2 and 3, more so in 3.
Actually ,its exactly what it equals. They can’t deal with modern tanks, but an anti-material rifle is any rifle meant to take out military hardware such as light armored vehicles and aircraft (though usually stationary ones since they move really fast). If it were meant as anti-infantry, it’d be an Anti-Personnel Rifle.

Well point being that the sniper rifle shouldn’t be able to tackle a vehicle (unless you can hit the pilot), we got several other power weapons for that purpose.

If you die off spawn it’s not the vehicle which is the problem, you either got hit by a terrible spawn location (343i’s fault), or you made a bad decision.
