Can we get the option to exclude certain maps from searches?

Sometimes when playing it feels like I get the same maps over and over again and none of the other ones. So it’d be nice to be able to exclude certain maps from the search so we can get the not so common maps or for people who only want to play one map they can choose to only join games that select that map.

You mean like OG from 360 version "Voting a specific map from three options like that?

If the answer is “yes”, it could be possible since that feature only exist on the OG 360 version, but It my be introduced later since ODST FloodFight is priority

Honestly I like the idea of map filtering, I’d probably play Reach matchmaking more if I could filter out the god awful DLC maps. I miss Sword Base.

No it’s be in the options before searching. Like how it is with choosing what game modes you want to play there’s be an option to select which maps you want to search for.

Being able to turn maps on/off and even game types on/off is the one thing the match composer needs to be perfect. That way you are guaranteed the games on the maps you want.

Hell I’d be happy if we just had a filter for ‘Forge World’ maps and regular maps (for Reach at least). That way those who enjoy playing on both types can select both options and those who enjoy just one type can only have that selected. This is coming from someone who hates Forge World maps.

What do you mean you don’t wanna play on Sandtrap 5x in a row?

here’s a big brain sollution… voting system from 3? no. no selection at all? no no… hear me out, a system like TF2 where you can que up for multiple modes and maps, even different modes on the same map(s)… but who am i kidding? that’s a wet dream, too complicated, it would take 20 years for such a thing to be implemented into a modern game. the devs need a brake lads, let’s give 'em next month off for all the ‘good’ work they’ve done

We will never play sandtrap again

Aside from being pointless with the existence of the CGB, Map filtering, or really any overfiltering, will only guarantee the matchmaking getting staler than it is when certain maps become the only maps played with the others being permanently toggled off (much like the current playerbase of Halo 3 players have done to H2A)

Early MCC was an example of why placing every multiplayer under the same matchmaking system using the same modified Vote system from Halo 4 (which was itself a step down from Reach) was a terrible idea. unfortunately that is the foundation of the game itself, and is essentially unfixable no matter WHAT you do. Veto, which is distinctly different from Vote, is probably the only solid option since it requires a majority and benefits gametype and map selection on top of not guaranteeing favoritism as the next map and mode is randomized. on top of that the map weighing needs adjusting to prioritize Default maps first, DLC maps second, and Forge maps last.

I don’t like the idea of excluding specific maps. Rather Having the option to VETO like in Halo 3 the current game mode and map and the next one can still be random. You would at least know it would be different.

It’d be different, but you still run into the issue of getting a map you don’t want and then you run into the issue of having people leave a lot more because what if they want to play on that map and get out voted and get something they don’t want to play.

Having the option to exclude or put certain maps on the bottom of the list makes it so you get the maps you want to play more often. The system doesn’t have to exclude maps altogether, but could just make certain maps you choose to be at the top of the list so you get them more than other ones.

Vetoing wasn’t as great as everyone remembers from Halo 3 which is why this option would be better.

Not going to happen guys. I understand why you want to favor maps over others for voting/vetoing, we went through that in the bungie era until Halo 4. Early MCC until 2018, everyone chose Halo 3 from the list of games that came up over 90% of the time over every other game in the collection (and everyone complained about it, this time it will be people complaining about certain maps only being chosen from the matchmaking pool that most people will choose) when there was a voting system in MCC in its early life up until late 2018. Problem now is introducing another filter like this is only going to increase matchmaking times even further when that is the biggest issue with most people. People just want to get into a game at least and quickly.

The only thing I can see reintoducing this concept of voting/vetoing is introducing it into Custom Games and the Browser. I think that would be a good compromise at least for the community to accept. Play whatever is thrown at you in matchmaking and have fun playing the game at the end of the day.

Overall it would be nice to have access to a few more search toggles when it comes to matchmaking. I also get why they wouldn’t give players that option (audience fracture), so they just need to do a better job with their playlist algorithm because yeah if you play enough, it’s the same thing over and over again. And you realize at least 50% of the content in this game is not being served online.

I’d even be happy if it was just the option to be like I want to prioritize these maps over the other ones. That way you get a better chance at getting the maps you want to play and still having the chance to get the other maps because yeah when playing matchmaking you get the same maps over and over again while the other half of the game is rarely seen. Which sucks cause I rarely get to play on some of my favorite maps.

The matchmaking system is really weak. Organizing groups through Discord to play Halo is the better option.

I’m still upset that during Season 7 on June 23, 2021, 343i made it so that in order to join other players you had to be on their friends list. This literally nuked the casual custom games scene because it was now a 1 minute to 5 minute hassle to get one person in a game. (On top of cluttering friends lists and having to repeat this problem for each individual host per-person!)
