In a game purchased by an individual, which can be played solely by an individual, there should not be a requirement to find a group of players to play with to make the game either fair (at minimum) or to have fun. Some people either want to solo queue, or don’t have friends that want to play the same games as them (which is completely fine as it’s entirely personal preference).
I would rather leave 45 games to get 5 good ones, rather than be forced to sit through 10 god awful games for the chance to get 5 fair and balanced matchups. I believe a lot of people feel exactly the same way. The aim isn’t to eradicate the players that afk or troll or are simply garbage; the aim is to give players the freedom to walk away from a terrible matchup, in a setting that is supposed to be ‘social’. Forcing a ban on players in a non-ranked setting, is just making it ranked without a number or visible mmr associated with that mode. Thats stupid.
That reputation system is effectively just mmr with more steps involved, and only associated with values that a computer can’t detect, or that can be easily side-stepped.
I get your point here. Maybe leaving 20% of the games still sounds decent, but leaving 90% of the games sounds a terrible idea as you would waste time and resources (such as internet connection) for the other players, including for the enemy team. Keep in mind that matchmade games are hosted on dedicated servers and wasting CPU and bandwidth resources for games that cannot be completed isn’t cost/effective.
Removing the ban system without implementing another system (such as a reputation system) will let trolls and unsporting players ruin everyone’s game.
A bigger and more egregious waste of time and resources is a match that my team is being stomped in, which is forced to last 5 mins plus. The collective ‘wastage’ of leaving many matches doesn’t come close to the total wasted time of being ruthlessly stomped for 5 minutes. It’s really not a waste of time if the enemy team is disconnected because the other team entirely left the game when the match isn’t fun or fair.
Like I said, none of the parameters for this ‘reputation system’ are differentiable by a program/machine, or are easily sidestepped. Removing a quit ban system is a better method of auto-balancing matches, than the currently in-place team ‘balancer’. If the playerbase itself can self-police bad matchups, it takes strain off the sbmm and the matchmaking system as a whole. Server CPU allocation is not ultimately wasted, because people spend less time using the server resources. It’s in-fact the opposite to what you claim.
The ban system is only good for competitive modes, as it’s a necessity for maintaining teammate engagement, and as a deterrent to abandons. Social games, should never have a ban system in place, as it kills engagement and fun within the mode. Noone wants to sit through a 5 minute stomp, and noone should if they are expecting to be in a casual setting.
Im getting extremely frustrated to the point where unstalling the games is about to become priority. There have been way too many times thst ive lost 10 in a row or more all because of people quitting, afk or are just simply terrible. And even when half the team quits, I still get banned cause of that said rule they put in… As of now, this multiplayer system is tainting all the years I’ve been playing these games.
Either fix this or give me better players cause 343 is so close to losing yet another dedicated player
Yesterday I had to play out a 4v1 (I was the 1) all because I am suddenly eating bans for quitting after half of my team already has. Absolutely ridiculous.
See my point here? We need another system if we want the ban system to be removed. Otherwise trolls will throw a match on purpose by betraying or leaving during mid-game. (Without consequences)
Strongly agree. Again, I have no problem with people who are great at the the game, only a problem with the skill distribution between teams. Current matchmaking puts tournament players against blind five year olds, and puts the blind five year olds on your team.
I personally think the quit penalty should exist, but as is, it is far from perfect. For starters, I feel like for Social, it shouldn’t ban you after quitting ONE match. For ranked I can understand that (I don’t play Ranked myself outside of challenge grinding anyway) but for Social, I feel like bans should only start kicking in after repeatedly quitting over a relatively short time period, say when going over 3 matches.
Additionally, make it so that disconnects don’t count towards the penalty because it just isn’t fair to have to sit through a ban just because your game fails to connect you to a game or it just crashes in the middle of it, like make the system trigger the ban if the player intentionally is pressed the Leave button or closing their game. Sure it can technically be exploited if someone does something like shut off their own router but it would still help weed out a bunch of annoying quitters because it sounds incredibly impractical and stupid to go out of your way to reset your connection every time a match goes bad so I doubt people would start suddenly doing that in mass, and the bigger crowd shouldn’t have to suffer because of a few trolls.
Oh, and definitely bring back the feature where you are allowed to quit when half of your team is already gone, you shouldn’t be penalized for having to sit through an unfair 2v4 or even 1v4, why they got rid of that feature is beyond me.
Or alternatively, add a mid-game joining function, possibly one that only works through a player’s invitation so you don’t try to search a game and find yourself on the losing side, so you can either bring back the lost teammate if they disconnected, or bring in a friend as a last minute replacement for a quitting random, it’s not uncommon for a friend to show up in your party and ask to join in while you’re mid-match after all, which forces them to wait it out, so it can help with that too.
I typically play social matches with a group of 4. I’d estimate that in 10-15% of all matches, the game crashes for at least one of us, after which that person is banned.
Nothing better than having a game that is somehow still unstable after 8 years crash, and then finding yourself banned after restarting.
You might have a point if it wasnt for Halo 3 randomly crashing resulting in getting banned over something that isn’t my fault. Even Though they “Fixed” that issue.
One of the reason why Halo 3 crashes sometimes, is that PC people deleted some maps they don’t want to play on, resulting in a crash for everyone but thats another topic.
And probably those awful skins - disable them seems to help.
Just noticed the new “Rejoin” system in the latest update. It’s better than nothing I suppose, but it’s such a hacked together solution. Presumably they cannot differentiate between voluntary and involuntary disconnects, so they came up with this new “Rejoin.” It is nice if the game is still going on by the time you get booted back up. However, I got disconnected twice today, and on one occasion the game I was booted from had ended by the time I logged back on, so I still got banned. I suppose it’s an improvement, but still far from ideal.
Yeah putting the max ban at 10 min is the best solution for this. Rejoin is literally just delaying the issue:
I don’t ‘like’ the quit ban but I understand why it exists.
I cant take this game anymore. Its either people who are awol, quit or absolutly stink or sweats so sweaty that it forms oceans. And its every game, even in social games. I keep losing so many games in a row that its drained the fun.
The player balance is horrendous to the point where i can no longer play this game anymore.
Thanks 343, you’ve lost a very dedicated player today.
@DrewAsDFRAG have no fear if you do decide to do this. I have a lot of people blocked due to their fascination with perspiring, and I still find games super fast. And I only search Reach.
This is true. If the game crashes and the match is still in progress, you can rejoin. I believe the only way you can’t is if you are betrayal booted. I’m not too sure if hitting the quit button allows you to rejoin or not. I saw someone say that you could, but don’t quote me on that.
