Can we get rid of some of the Multiplayer Medals?

Ever since Reach, we now get awarded with a medal for EVERYTHING.
Headshots
Grenade kills
Assists
A medal for Sniper Kills instead of just Sniper Headshots.
the list of worthless medals goes on and on.

In Halo 3, the medals were actually special and you felt proud when you achieved a medal. Now, they are a dime a dozen.

And in Halo 3, the medals were brightly colored and color coded so you could easily tell out of the corner of your eye what medal you achieved without actually having to look at it.

Now all the medals look so similar, and pop up in the corner so small, it’s hard to tell what you achieved in game, even with the announcer guy saying what you got.

And if you’re a half way decent player, you have a medal popping up on your screen every 5 seconds, I can’t be the only one annoyed by this.

I’m all for having stats at the end of the game to show you how many headshots you got etc. But ending a game having more medals than you even have kills? Ridiculous.

I agree with the idea to reduce the medal count especially getting rid of comeback kill and the generic kill, but some of the medals you listed I think should stay. It’s kinda hard to tell when the game awards an assist or not and same goes with head shots. I don’t really care for weapon specific medals like sniper, sword, or hammer kills.

You get medals for assists and grenade kills?

Are you confusing Points for medals?

I agree. There should be an on/off option for these medals cause just like you said there is way too many. Halo 3 had the best looking medals by far.

I just don’t want to scroll through 30+ medals at the end of a game to find how many meaningful ones I got.

If I get 15 kills in a Halo 3 game, I sometimes only get a few medals, which is how it should be. In Halo 4, if I get 15 kills, I could easily have an equal amount of medals, 90% of them being non-medal worthy things.

Grenade kill?
Snapshot?
Comeback kill?
Sword kill?
Head Shot?
Sniper Kill?

Might as well get a medal every time you sprint or jump.

I agree that most medals are superfluous… except for Assist medals. Those are extremely useful and should never be removed.
For reasons why, and to see that most everybody else also wants the Assist medal to stay in the game, see this tread: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/6e35355aecdf4fd0acdaee3cc4156fd4/topics/bring-back-the-assist-medal/464e6b3f-3995-45b3-81ba-3577cedbdb38/posts

Edit: Forgot about the kill feed, so I cleaned up this post.

An assist should not be a medal. It should just pop up on screen somewhere like the kill feed, that’s it. And personally, I don’t want that either, but I can at least understand why others do, and I think it’d be a good compromise.

STEAKTACULAR!

You do get a TON of medals, but it really doesn’t bother me that much.

The assist medal doesn’t hurt the core experience of the game, it lets me know whether or not I get an assist. Halo 3 was notorious for not rewarding assits in the post game lobby. The kill feed tells players who killed who throughout the match, which usurps your argument. Communication is not necessary to find out who killed who, the kill feeds is there for that, (which has been around since CE) and the assist medal is convenient to tell if I got an assist or not, same goes with the headshot medal. Both these medals are useful for trying to get a triple double.

You’re right, I TOTALLY forgot about the kill feed.

That’s even more reason why an assist medal is not required.

If you shoot someone, and then they die and you didn’t get rewarded for the kill, you got an assist, you don’t need a medal for it. It’s not a medal worthy achievement, simple as that. After the game, you’ll see exactly how many assists you got in the stats, it shouldn’t clutter up and falsely inflate a players medals section.

After the game, it’s nice to see that a teammate that only got 8 kills, assisted 14 times or so, I’m in total agreement with that. But an assist isn’t medal worthy, it just isn’t. If “Assist” silently appears somewhere on the screen to let you know, I think that’d be fine, but getting a medal for it is ridiculous.

The Head Shot medal is also just a way to falsely inflate the medals section. The number of head shots you got should be in the post game stats, and that’s it.

Let’s say you get 2 double kills, 1 triple kill, 1 assassination, and 1 killing spree. Those are worthy medals that you can be proud of. But in the same game, if you get 8 assist medals and 12 head shot medals. Your medal section is now falsely inflated by 20! How stupid. I’d rather get 5 worthy medals.

If the game informed players mid match if they received a headshot or assist without a medal, sure I wouldn’t mind seeing their removal. At the moment though, the assist and headshot medal are useful medals because they inform the player if they received an assist or their last shot was a body or head shot.
