Those are literally the exact reasons why I wear the cat ears and glitter coating. It feels so good to be at the top of the leaderboard in a match or win an lss game while wearing them.
Although I will say I wish I could turn off seeing certain cores because I find the samurai ones to be quite ugly tbh.

This is true but it wasn’t visible on their armour, they carried it in a pouch or beneath their chest plate.

A toggle for all non-canon is the way. Not just specific cores, you shouldn’t be able to toggle off canon stuff unless you can toggle off literally anything and anything.
Also a toggle imo should turn off weapon charms and all VFX as well.
I agree with the latter as someone who plays tf2(if you get into a match where theres a lot of people wearing unusuals* the game performance can suffer a bit) i can see a performance boost for certain players due to their game not having to render special effects constantly
It would be nice to have a option to turn those off for people who can run infinite but not at max settings
*tf2’s equivalent of armor effects
