They’ve directly stated that all Fracture cores are noncanon, so no not everything is canon.
I’m sure our Spartans being on fire is also not canon.
Its hard to tell the full extent of what is or isn’t canon because its not easy to have a dialogue with 343.
I heavily doubt cat ears are canon. Now the pineapple grenades? I could see an argument for that… sometimes soldiers have been known to paint gear/equipment.
Ultimately all of these things are their decisions to make if this were to become an option.
Exactly my point. But the OP wants to state “minimum canon” which isn’t a thing. Canon is canon. It doesn’t make sense to choose what to make sense. Meaning its impossible to make make a toggle option.
Of course they’re not gonna do this because it might discourage purchases of dumb looking cosmetics.
The solution I wish they had gone with, which I was calling for before launch, was to let everyone customize 2 different Spartans.
One would be the “serious” Spartan which is limited to armor pieces that fit within the Halo art style. This Spartan would be used in all vanilla and default modes, like Quick Play etc.
The other Spartan would allow ALL armor pieces, including cat ears and plague doctor helmets and OG Xbox backpacks and whatever, but this Spartan would only be used in playlists like Action Sack and Infection and Grifball etc, where things are silly enough that breaking immersion and “not feeling like Halo” stops mattering
I’d be so down with this, even if it’s something I have to pay for. It’d probably cause a lot of backlash that way from the community, but I get it, they gotta sell cosmetics at the end of the day. It just feels like all these skins take away from the immersion that I’d like from Halo.
I’m no expert of what’s cannon outside of the games but a fish ball helmet with a scratched on COD Ghost skull is cannon and worn by Emile in campaign, so cat ears are not out of the equation. Hell, seeing the Spartans in the MP storyline so far, I would not be surprised if one of them is introduced wearing cat ears.
Like painting gear. MP is practice simulation in a digital world. I can see future soldiers taking advantage of these digital settings and add digital fire and whatever else to themselves for style via their AI. However you are right. What is cannon or not is not easy to tell.
It couldn’t be easier. Why? Emile is a functional canon character in the mainline series. Flame helmets have been in Halo since 3 and have never once been ported to canon.
Cat ears, weapon charms, vfx and various other silly things are clearly not canon. It couldn’t be more of a straw man to say it’s difficult to tell what’s canon or isn’t.
You want the world to look the way you want it to look. But that’s not how the world works. People look different and expresses themselves differently. Deal with it.
I purposely make my Spartan look as ridiculous as possible. I love it.
What canon is what is stated canon. Not what you deem to be ridiculous to be perceived as canon. I just assume you don’t have anything with bright lights or animals in your games. But if those things are part of it, you just deal with it.
Of course, I am not against you toggling off effects. But any physical design isn’t going to kill you.
The only cosmetics I haven’t really liked were the cyber showdown ones. The mohawk and the big ski glasses.
The Cat’s ears are funny. You can almost imagine an engineer using nature to design new technology. I quite like them.
But anyway… the use of any of these things comes and goes. As we’re getting more options everything seems to be settling down into more “sensible” choices. I would say that the vast majority of Spartan’s I see in game are pretty cool to look at.
The important thing is people get the chance to make each Spartan their own. And if they pay for that privilege then I don’t think it shouldn’t be hidden behind a toggle. The whole ecosystem would break down and they would have to go elsewhere for their revenue (eg. pay to win).
Except for my sons - both of whom wear Cat ears and pink armour coatings specifically because they annoy people
Personally I use my Rakshasa core in most games. Particular ranked. I’m actually very fond of it (the first time I’ve really had any interest in collating a “look”). But I do bring my MVII with Cat’s ears and chest flower out for LSS. It’s important to look dapper while battling Royale.
I only interact with my spartan in the u/i and in the death screen. I dont think it matters how other players perceive me when im teabagging them. So it wouldnt bother me if they could toggle off my armor coating, attachments, etc
These people trying to gaslight and dance around logic aren’t worth issuing a response to. They’re just desperate to try make people see how ‘special’ they look. I guess they get a little high feeling like people are looking at them.
My noble 6 was a functional canon character in a mainline series with lightning vfx. If a silly fishbowl with a skull scratched to it can be cannon than anything else can be cannon too. Speaking about Halo 3. Up to Halo 3 the only cannon armor was Master Chief’s green mark VI and green mark V because MP was not considered cannon and there were no other spartan in the campaign. We did not get any other cannon armor until Reach. Case and point, cannon is a terrible argument for a filter because “cannon” changes from game to game and just because flaming heads were not cannon in 3 does not mean they are not cannon in Infinite. The only good point you have made for the toggle was about the death effects, everything else is just a variation of “I don’t like it”
You’re the one that said that it’s hard to tell what is cannon unless 343i states it, but now you’re flipping 180 because OP wants a toggle too. Logic gymnast here.
Legit can’t understand why yall acting this upset. It’s just video game armor. Yall can’t be serious about this. Do you guys have no real problems? Like how does “I should demand to not see armor I don’t like in a video game” come to someone’s mind? Dudes I got over 99 problems but this ain’t 1. This aint even .01
We get it, you don’t care about this problem so hard that you’re literally obsessing over it, don’t worry man, everyone gets how much you ‘don’t care.’
Also, you do realize no one comes here to talk about their real life, right? People talk about Halo here. If you want to talk about your real life, get some friends.
“Don’t talk to them.” “don’t post here.” “Dont make me look at armor I don’t like.” Somebody is a control freak aren’t they. Oh no this a place to talk about Halo and its 99 problems where how others customize there characters aint 1. I dont care about this feature one way or another, but I will still discuss this topic because really who cares, its just armor in a video game because its a junk food topic. Fun to engage in but no value.
If any of you could actually see 343 using cat ears in a novel for a Spartan, then MAYBE the argument could even hold water weight. But it doesn’t, it just doesn’t. We know, even without needing to be explicitly told as much - that flaming heads, VFX and goofy cosmetics are for multiplayer expression.
Nobody in their right mind thinks that this stuff is canon beyond their own headcanon. Which, has no basis in reality.
I like Fall Guys & Minecraft, I enjoy funny things and bright colours and cute animals. Silly assumptions aren’t going to help whatever argument it is you’re trying to make.
Pretty sure I play Infinite every day. But I can lobby for whatever kind of feature I damn well want.
