Can we get an option to toggle off any cosmetic?

And then…

Don’t you see how these are two separate lanes of thought that you only choose out of selfishness? Nobody is supressing anything with a toggle, you still get to wear it. You won’t even notice the difference.

And no, I’m not gonna think of them as anything sensible. Cause they’re not, they don’t belong. It’s Halo, it’s fiction shouldn’t have to be compromised for everyone just because you enjoy the particular cosmetic item.

A toggle would literally hurt no one.

I’m aware, but it’s best that the toggle idea keeps coming up so that 343 knows it’s a wanted feature.

If 343 added that then people wouldn’t buy stuff from the store because it wouldn’t be seen. They will not do that.

I doubt they’ll ever consider anything that complicated. It’ll be all or nothing most likely. The second one is subjective too, as what you may consider silly, others might not and vice versa…

I seriously doubt that. Not everyone who buys stuff from the store is some massive narcissist that would constantly be worrying about which of the hundreds of people they played with that day saw their blinky shminky doo-da.

And if someone is like that, why on earth cater to them specifically?

I don’t think so man, it’s pretty darn obvious what stuff fits in the canon and what doesn’t.

Yeah, canon isn’t an opinion, its objective. All they have to do while making items is give it a tag of ‘canon’ or non-canon’ that can be identified by the system for a toggle.

Although I imagine it would be too much work to make them take off just the flagged armor/core. Anyone with a ‘non-canon’ tag would just have the entirety of their Spartan converted into a default grey.

this kind of thiNG should be at the very bottom of our list of things to do. so far in the bottom in fact that every time we have something else come ups for changes updates and improvements this would go behind that. we have so much else we need improved before something like this.

Sounds like you can’t change with the times.

Listen, whenever someone says “I don’t want to see cat ears!” it just reminds me of 100 other things that make me very happy when allowed to self express openly, that others don’t want to see.

I Want people to get SO MAD when they see my little pointy eared MK V helmet at the victory screen of LSS.

I want people to see my busty fursona when they want to send hate.

I WANT the very things that make me, me, to be seen unfettered by toggles and options and so on… just so people have to live with the knowledge,

“Oh great. I’m playing with a furry.
“Oh GREAT. The FURRY is at the top of the board.”
“Oh come ON, I lost to the FURRY?”

Yes. On all three accounts, and OFTEN.

Oh I love knowing how many people I make mad by being able to openly display being a weird little furry online, only to absolutely 4-shot them down whenever they try. Every little angry T-Bag I get after I manage to perfect the same person five times in a row, every little melee I get after going 10/1 and that one guy goes “FINALLY I MANAGED TO GET A COMEBACK”

Knowing they lost to a furry with bright blue glowing BS on her armor effects? That I gave 'em all the world’s warning and they still got beat OUT by something they can’t stand?

That’s something Infinite gives me that NO other Halo game can give me and I Love it. I hope they add cat ears to MCC, for EVERY helmet, for FREE, so we can just WELD THOSE LITTLE BAD BOYS ON and make SO MANY PEOPLE MAD when those victory poses come out!

“Congrats my guy, the furry won again!”

You have no idea how happy it makes me to see people who hate me, lose. And hate losing. I used to play pro in another game and I was very openly LGBT+… and the worst kinda’ people hate me and my squad for it, but you know what? We kicked their -Yoink!-. Often. And were respected because we held our positions and beliefs, and espoused them.

Oh I loved it. Being something that the worst people hate and being so hard to beat.

tl;dr I like making bigots and pearl clutchers mald. Cat ears let me do that even better.

This would be great. All the people saying “Let me express myself because thats how i play games” yet they don’t want you to be able to play the game the way you want i.e. without being forced to see goofy (and ugly) cosmetics. Seems highly intolerant and biggoted to me to not want this.

Personally most of the cosmetics don’t bother me, though it is laughable that 343 still tries to pass multiplayer off as in-universe canon Spartan training when no military would have weapon charms like it is a teenagers cell phone.

The only effect that honestly bugs me is that latter half of death effects. The burst of fire, digital fuzz, or molten effect is fine, but the skull appearing and roaring, the wolf head howling…those parts of it I feel are really dumb. If I could turn just that part off that would be great.

I don’t… think you really know what those words mean.

Options are always good. The more the merrier.

That said, this pathetic dress sim sideshow is a firmly entrenched aspect of gaming now. Fortunately, it isn’t that intrusive and is most easy to ignore.

There’s also one huge positive. Paid-for dresses are an instant idiot indicator.

I do. I used them appropriately. People who don’t want something are intolerant of that thing. Its actually impossible to hold any kind of strong opinion and not be intolerant of the opposing side. Unless you are a rock you are intolerant in some way.

It is highly hypocritical of someone to say “Let me play how i want to” then in the same breath cry “NO YOU CAN’T PLAY HOW YOU WANT TO BECAUSE THEN I CAN’T FORCE MY BELIEFS ON YOU!”. Kind of biggoted if you ask me.

Halo had a certain art style in CE-3 (Reach kind of changed it a bit but was still close enough) and 343 has been trying to kill off what Halo was in order to make the Halo they saw fit. Thats why 4 is absolutely terrible and 5 was bad too. They realized we need to make a game more inline with classic Halo to survive and thats how we finally got Infinite. Aside from the terrible armor unlock system and some atrocious armor pieces (and i guess stability issues) Infinite is actually a dang good game. Being able to toggle off the goofy armor pieces would be great and any argument against it from a player side (because i can see why 343 will never do this as it does encourage people to spend moeny when they see something they like) has only been people wanting to force others to deal with their goofy armors and it just seems selfish that way.

Being intolerant of something isn’t necessarily bad. Most people are intolerant to crimes (which is a good thing) so just saying people are intolerant or biggoted is a bad argument. I used that phrasing to point out the hypocrisy in statements that use that as an argument. What it really says when people say that is just that you disagree, thats all.

This is all just so sad and misses the point. The bitterness and vitriol makes you just as bad as those you want to annoy and I don’t want to be associated with either.

I don’t care what you are or what you want to be, my opinion on your avatar isn’t even a negative one. BUT I, even before cat ears - all the way back in Halo 3/Reach didn’t want all the effects or flames. I don’t want things that don’t fit in the fiction, in the game.

Does it ruin my experience that it Is? No. But I’ll happily ask for a toggle so we ALL get what we want.

yeah you definitely don’t understand the words you’re saying.

I will admit that ultimately, I get it. But I just don’t agree. It’s also not really… bitterness? It’s more relishing.

You’re relishing because of bitterness.

And the fun thing Is, it’s totally ok for you to disagree! With a toggle, we both get what we want and I’m sure a solid half of the people you annoy also use dumb fire VFX, so you can relish in forcing them to stop enjoying their own things so they don’t have to look at yours ig

lol

I can’t care less about what people or myself wear, but I care greatly about things like Kill Effects.

I hate it, and I never wish it upon anyone who doesn’t like being flash-banged on death, and I would like to not be flash-banged in return. Remember when kill effects was selected by the player to play on their own death? Yea, why has it gotta be invasive now?

See you misunderstand what those words mean. If you are not open and accepting of every single opinion out there (which if you are a law abiding citizen you can’t be) then you are not tolerant in some capacity. Saying someone is intolerant just means they don’t agree with you, not that their opinion is wrong or that its not morally the better choice.

The side in favor of a toggle has these arguments:

  1. Halo has an established world. While playing in that world we want to see things that make sense. Cat ears or random armor effects for example don’t make sense in that world.

  2. The armors and effects do affect in game play by obscuring people’s vision at certain times or giving people away when they otherwise wouldn’t have been seen.

  3. Even if most of this did make sense in world a lot of the armors just don’t fit the art style Halo has (basically 99% of everything from H4 and H5) and therefore doesn’t belong

Those in favor of no toggle have these arguments:

  1. We like it

  2. I want to force people who don’t like it to see it because it gives me joy knowing i am breaking lore/art style and they don’t want that

  3. Because i spent money i want people to see me

Both sides are definitely intolerant of each other but one definitely has the moral right here and its not those in favor of no toggle unless that side starts providing better arguments.

Why on earth would a military simulation have all this silly stuff in it?

If anything, a canon simulation should be trying to be as authentic as possible.
