Is it just me, or does the Halo 4 Battle Rifle sound like -Yoink- when fired?
Seriously, the most annoying aspect of the Battle Rifle these days is not the fact that it’s a little bit overpowered post weapon-tuning, but the fact that it sounds like a toy. It’s like the Halo 3 AR all over again, but worse.
Can’t 343i patch the sound FX for weapons in this game? You know, swap the current SFX for the Battle Rifle fro those from Halo 2 or Halo 3. The BR in Halo:Spartan Assault’s co-op mode (thankfully) uses the sound effects from the Halo 3 BR, so why can’t they use those in Halo 4? Preferably across all game modes, which is to say Campaign and Spartan Ops as well as multiplayer. It’s not adding new content, it’s more like patching existing content, so I don’t see why not. Rip out the old sound files, and put in new ones.
A few other weapons could do with some tuning as well, audio-wise. The Storm Rifle is just as bad; hell it sounds even worse than either the Halo 4 BR or the Halo 3 AR. I mostly avoid using simply because of that stupid little pattering sound it makes whenever I fire it. I’d rather they just recycle the old SFX from the Plasma Rifle or Plasma Repeater.
The Magnum isn’t as bad as the others, but I’d be happier if they gave it the SFX from Magnum in Halo:CE Anniversary; or Halo:Reach, whichever floats your boat. I like the Anniversary SFX better.
No, this is definitely something I don’t want them spending time on. They all sound fine to me, but then again I don’t have a very discerning ear, or the longtime experience with a different sounding BR.
Still I think this should not be given any effort into changing. Maybe for the next Halo.
At least they got the looks for it perfect…

Oh, for the love of… swapping out sound files isn’t that time consuming, so that’s not even a concern. How hard would it be for them to slip it in with the next patch?

Next patch? Is there another TU on the way? Don’t know anything about “switching out sound files”. I bet there is a lot more to it than that.
I absolutely hated the sound of the BR in Halo 4. It would get on my nerves a LOT.

Perhaps, but changing the sound effects for a weapon can’t be more difficult that actual weapon tuning and balance changes. Also, 343i said a while pack that there was a possibility (not a certainty) that there would be another Title Update or more Weapon Tuning. I think that was last year, actually… the odds of getting either after so long seem rather slim at this point.

Nope, it sounds like a modified version of an actual gun sound.
Maybe people have unrealistic expectations of what guns actually sound like?

I don’t care if they based it off of an actual gun, it still sounds like crap compared to the Battle Rifle in Halo 2 and Halo 3.
BTW, I watch the Military Channel; I’ve heard them fire real guns, and I’ve never heard one that sounded as crappy as the Halo 4 BR.
> Maybe people have unrealistic expectations of what guns actually sound like?
I don’t care if the Halo 2/Halo 3 BR was unrealistic, it sounded good enough… and I didn’t flinch every time I pulled the trigger.
I thnk this is the first thread I have ever read about how the BR sounds. It’s oddly relaxing.
On topic though the BR sounds fine and the people above me are right, 343i shouldn’t be spending time changing how a weapon sounds even if Halo 5 wasn’t out soon.
The BR sounds like crickets every once in a while.

Well unless you shoot semi-automatic guns on a regular basis or are trained to use them (i.e. military) then you’re likely going to flinch a little when you shoot one.

facepalm I was talking about the sound effects.
The BR85 sounds fine. For those of you that don’t know the sound was created by mixing the sounds that the FN SCAR-H and Colt M16 make.
It doesn’t sound powerful. It feels like you shoot rice and the power after and during the shots just vanishes into air.
I’m sorry for the h4 br fans, but I sometimes call it “Ripulipyssy” (diarrhea gun) ^^;

How hard have you looked? There are lots of BR threads out there.
Personally I think the BR sounds like a dying cat.

Personally, I could liken the Halo 4 Battle Rifle trying to sound like a real gun, to… a kid clipping trading card to the spoke of his bike wheel to try and make it sound like a motorcycle.
Come to think of it, that’s the exact sound the Storm Rifle makes; that little pattering noise…
