from MP(though not from forge so you can use it in custom games)
With all the debating going on i figured it would be nice to have one topic we could agree on. I enjoy it, it’s a fun weapon, but it’s ridiculously overpowered as it stands in MP.
I know having extremely powerful weapons is nothing new such as the sniper and rocket launcher, but those weapons take skill and precision to use, so the sniper for instance isn’t just a BR that does more damage. The SAW on the other hand, is basically a god-tiered assault riffle with no drawbacks, it’s not harder to aim, it’s not more limited with ammo, it’s completely OP in it’s current state.
It’s a powerful tool in the hands of a skilled operator, but otherwise it’s fine. I believe it solely depends on who uses it. Every time I get the SAW in personal ordnance, I get like one kill but that’s it. Of course there are times where I wreck house with it, but those moments are few and far between. I’m sure there are others who can agree.
> That is the idea an over powering weapon that does not explode and doesn’t need to be shoot from far away.
That’s the point, it’s a crappy idea. Having a power weapon that dominates at all ranges with very little skill requirement. I can guarantee you will never see this gun in competitive settings, not even as a pickup.
What downside does it even have?
-Giant ammo pool.
-Very good accuracy if fired properly.
-High damage per second.
Doesn’t need to be removed from the game entirely, but definitely shouldn’t be prominent in matchmaking.
I think it should only be a weapon pickup on certain maps but even then it might still be very overpowered. I do like your idea however. I think they should bring back many weapons from previous games but reserve some of them for specific maps or gametypes.
The idea of a weapon like the SAW isn’t in and of itself a bad idea. Mechanics-wise, it can fit in the sandbox. The issue is balancing it. The SAW doesn’t need to be removed, just rebalanced.

Personally, I’ve never understood how the Rocket Launcher made it into competitive 4v4 settings. So, who knows.
I think weapons with the power and skill/effect ratio like the SAW or Rockets belong in playlists with bigger player counts, and in case of the latter where vehicles are involved as well.
Otherwise I think it is just gamebreaking.
For once, I’d like all the weapons to act pretty much the same in the next iteration of Halo, rather than change again. Yeah, the SAW is pretty powerful, but I was under the impression this was a sci-fi universe that could have powerful weapons so…what I’m saying is, for the sake of consistency of the story and the timeline 343’s trying to establish with technology, leave the gun be. Now, if they would give us back all the other weapons from other Halo’s, I’d be all for that.
Disagree, the SAW is one of my favorite (of very few) things about Halo 4. I do think both initial and max ammo capacities should be halved for the sake of skillfulness and to keep people from dominating perpetually with it, because as it stands, similar to classic high-tier power weapons such as rockets, the average player simply has to wait for a SAW user to run out of ammo in order for the fight to become balanced again, as challenging is typically an unwise decision.
I think the spectacular problem with the SAW isn’t its large ammo capacity, nor its high damage…
It’s the fact that the weapon is effective in almost all ranges that really contributes to its magnificent imbalance.
With that being said, tone down its accuracy so that it’s only effective at close range and give it shot acceleration to make burst firing more difficult and thus adding a skill-gap for using the weapon beyond close range.
