Is it just me or does it feel like the ravager is either A) Broken right now or B) just not a very good weapon in the first place. While in the first Ravager weapon drill I tested both the headshot damage and the body damage and they both took 3 full bursts to kill the target. Now I don’t know about you guys, but if a plasma weapon has to hit you 9 times to kill you then I think it should have something more than a poor functioning area denial charge up feature to be considered a decent weapon. In the flights the weapon was a two burst to the body for a kill, and a one burst to the head for a kill. THATS BEAUTIFUL. Something needs to be done about the gun to make it more powerful because the ravager in it’s current state is hot garbage. Thoughts?
Well for starters headshot damage doesn’t apply while the shields are up except for the Sniper and the Shock Rifle (although technically the Shock Rifle fires 3 shots in very quick succession so a solid headshot will instantly kill).
The Ravager is best used as an area denial tool with its charge shot. Otherwise the damn thing is completely useless, and even then, a Dynamo Grenade does the same thing but better since you can actually use a decent weapon while you throw it.
It used to be 2 bursts, but if feels so weak now that I don’t bother picking it up. It shreds through vehicles, though. I think it was fine the way it was, especially for how big the gun is.
Ravager feels more like a utility weapon or sieging weapon.
It’s horrible for TTK, but it’s absolutely good for flushing out clumps of enemies.
The charged shot also creates area denial, which is good for protecting or attacking zones.
In my opinion, the Ravager’s normal shots are fine, but the Charged Shot needs to be buffed significantly.
The charged mortar, if it hits someone, should kill them outright. The burning zone it leaves should do slightly more damage per tick.
It definitely feels weaker than the flight, but it is still a decent enough weapon for its niche. Anti-vehicle and zoning.
The thing is it isn’t a power weapon, it’s just a mid tier weapon so I think it’s about right actually. It spawns like a Commando would.
Real power weapons are definitely in a different league to both.
I mean the Shock Rifle is a “mid-tier” weapon but is basically a power weapon. It can one-shot headshot and has much more ammo than the regular Sniper. On top of that, it has the added utility of shutting down vehicles with two shots, so honestly it’s a better anti-vehicle weapon than the Ravager, assuming you can cap the driver during the shutdown or your team can capitalize on your EMP.
The Ravager definitely needs a step up.
Yeah the Shock Rifle is insanely good. Only balance is scope range is pretty small, body shot damage is insanely weak (3 shot kill). The anti-vehicle bit is the best part of it and pretty much the only way to stop an enemy Wasp that knows how to play.
I admit that I would prefer to have the Shock Rifle 9/10 over the Ravager but the same is true of a BR/Commando.
You saying that makes it seem like the ravager is more of a crowd control weapon, which makes way more sense now.
Ravager is great for crowd control and the charged shot can drain shields very quickly too, so in some ways is like an alternate plasma pistol charged shot.
But the burst mode is complete trash, unless you can land a quick burst and then immediately follow with the increased damage melee.
I think, depending on its intended purpose as a killing weapon or utility weapon, the burst mode should either get a direct damage buff, or a splash damage and radius buff respectively.
But as it stands it needs a buff now. Curious how it will perform in campaign. I loved how the brute shot and concussion rifles could really suppress you on the higher difficulties. Hope this can fill that role and more.
Ravager is a great defensive weapon. My buddy and I were guarding the center tunnel on Fragmentation yesterday, and as he’s telling me the Ravager is garbage, I’m going on a spree with it.
It has a niche, for sure. But between the three shot burst, charged AOE, and the blade on that thing, ain’t nobody getting thru that door until I run out of ammo.
I’m convinced that the Ravager & Disruptor were designed to tickle people instead of inflict damage.
(ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ)
Disrupter is a great support weapon, not sure it’s meant to be a killing weapon though.
Doesn’t just do chain lightening damage, but if you get 3 or more shots in it will do damage over time - more damage from more shots landed.
But while taking damage over time, shields don’t regenerate. So it does have the neat ability to prevent shield regeneration. Great to pepper people in groups with before getting to cover again. Allow teammates to pick them off.
Shock isn’t really a power weapon, it just feels like it because of how its headshots instantly kill someone.
It also does that because of how it actually functions, which is basically a 3 shot BR burst except electric damage rips through shields which exposes the head for headshot instantly.
I’ll say Shock Rifle is more of an anomaly of a weapon tbh. I’m really not sure if 343 really intended for it to be such, but I’m glad we have it as a utility/sniper weapon.
That being said, Ravager’s charged shot could be buffed up to be the same:
Charged shot if connecting with a player just kills them outright, while the normals are good for splash damage and hurting shields.
When its used in crowd control, its a rather effective AoD weapon, but with the burst fire mode its rather lacklustre, tedious when you have to do a kill challenge with it.
In the flight the ravanger felt great, I think they may of nerfed it
Man, I remember during the preview it slapped. But I think its a hit registration and server thing now, like even direct hit dont feel like anything has happened.
But it is good against vehicles.
I needed a kill with the Ravager for my weekly challenge. It took me 3 games of finding its spawn location and countless encounters to rack up a single kill. It’s about as useless as the Pistol.
Not a server side issue as it’s damage is laughable in training mode against bots too.
I literally just use it as a plasma pistol and charge blast people then switch to the sidekick to clean them up. The individual shots are awful, but you can at least shoot then melee to kill someone with it pretty fast.
Honestly I’m not a fan of it, seems better to keep any basic weapon, the usage is so niche it isn’t worth it most of the time.
