Yes, I get it. Halo 5 had a crappy launch. The game didn’t have the content it should have. However, 343 has been listening and they’re adding content to the game. The developers have said they are working on infection, just released griffball, Halo CE pistol returns, new map from scratch, and now firefight look like it will be here in the next update. This has the potential to become the best Halo [multiplayer] game ever. Even if it did deliver quite late.
I very much agree, it would be fine to complain at launch, but it is already half a year since the release of halo 5 and there is still people complaining. People should play the game how it is not how they want it to be.

People will still argue that content like this should have been in at launch like in any other Halo game. (which is kind of a strawman argument in some respects)
I wasn’t aware that retro weapons were included in any form before now, though, so that argument is full of holes, but can be largely correct in certain perspectives.
what people forget is that all these different game types and maps that halo 3 had all came with updates it wasnt at launch either
If they decide to fix MCC, yes!
343 really hit this one out of the park. Grifball is amazing in H5. I was never a huge fan in H3 or Reach, but something about H5 Grifball is fantastic

there is a different forum section for that though…i dont go to that dark corner of the waypoint
Shoot, part of me hopes the negativity doesn’t completely go away, I kind of enjoy coming here just to see what we are complaining about today lol.
They’ve done a fantastic job here with halo 5. I think as long as they keep adding maps and fix that matchmaking thing, there shouldnt be too much to complain about.

Halo 3 DLC was strictly map packs. Game types were crafted by the community themselves using options given to them.

While I’m happy with the updates (and was happy with the game at launch), the content that they have added does not prove one way or the other that 343i is or is not listening. The majority of things that 343i has added or will add (new maps, assault, grifball, firefight, etc.) are things that Halo fans expected to be in the DLC (new maps, REQs), expected to be in the game (assault, grifball, etc.), or really hoped would be in the game (firefight, invasion (I still have hope with the Reach themed DLC)). 343i could have created their DLC roadmap before launch (which I think they did) with each of these DLCs planned with their specific content. Thus, this content does not prove that 343i is listening. However, it doesn’t disprove it either.

So… The green markers for fire team members wasn’t something we asked for? I must have been hallucinating that thread way back near launch, then.
I’m guessing we didn’t ask for better color options, unrestricted emblem colors, or all the Forge content we got from this update, either. Or more transparency on future updates.
These are just some of the things, but I’d hardly say that they’re not listening. You can bring up all the stuff on Sprint and Spartan Abilities being things that the community wants addressed, but it’s such a divisive subject.

Yes, but that was not their DLC. Bungie gave updates very frequently. Not saying 343 doesn’t, but updating playlists and DLC are two different things entirely.
I miss ctf social already, man drop down menus must be expensive or some, go ahead community spend millions more on req cards maybe we can get a drop down/ sub menu for social playlists…probably not, we got mute all but not individuals, baby steps I guess.

well yes obviously, i was just making the point of how people comparing H5 to H3…neither one was the same game at launch and finish, they both needed updates from launch so according to others here H3 (one of the best games of all time) was sold as an incomplete game. The game modes that we have come to love mostly came from the community, not bungie. In H5s case 343 was testing griffball, forge and other things before the game even launched to make sure it worked and fixing huge issues. They released the game so early to get it to the public during the Christmas season to get sells, so therefore it didnt have all the content it couldve had. Also i feel like 343 released it and kinda sat back and waiting to hear what we really wanted in the game and how they could improve things. The last bit is my opinion though.

I never said they weren’t listening. I said that the majority of the content provided does not prove one way or the other that 343i is listening. That statement is true. If 343i could not predict before the game launched that we would want or really hope for the majority of the content they have provided in DLC I would be really worried.
Now you bring up some good points to show that 343i is listening. However, outside of the forge content (I am impressed by what the forge development team has done), your examples are relatively minor changes that do not affect how you play the game, your ability to play the game, or ability to communicate with others. If you play team based games your Spartan is either red or blue. Does it really matter that I have more colors to choose from? Who is going to see it and when are they going to see it? No one but yourself.
I’ll admit, the locked color options for the emblems was a little annoying. However, I don’t think I have changed that since launch. But, at least others will see those colors.
The green arrows (I didn’t know they added this), while a nice feature doesn’t really do much for me. If you forget which color you are, push the mele button and look at the color of your arm.
I would hardly say that 343i is being transparent. The announced a future gametype and gave us the titles of future updates. That is called building hype and marketing. They want us to speculate and talk about what is coming to help sustain interest in the game. While this is a good thing, it is not transparency.
If 343i were being transparent they would acknowledge and address that there are many people who often get dropped from the servers during the game. They would acknowledge and address the fact that we cannot talk to our friends in the lobby before and in between games. They would explain how the banhammer works.
I agree with you about the sprint/Spartan ability discussion. You can argue until you are red or blue in the face and you will not change anyone’s opinion. I actually love the evolution of the gameplay that has resulted from the Spartan abilities (although a few tweaks to the Spartan change would be beneficial…sorry, couldn’t help myself).
I am glad they are addressing the mice in the room. However, I would prefer that they address the elephants first.
As an avid fan of the series, I am more than willing to commend 343i’s hard work to fixing Halo 5. With that said I feel like there are many things that put a sour taste in my mouth, such as the following:
- We got a pizza and fry skin for the assault rifle and magnum as heavily promoted REQ rewards before we got Grifball OR Infection. I’m sure somebody asked for some goofy skins, and I can appreciate that with the Ah Arrr! and the Locke and Loaded skins, but those food based weapon skins feel like a complete waste to me, and I feel like something like them shouldn’t have been a priority to 343i before more desired and cried for things. - Warzone boss kills are a 100-0 split, and when the community complained about this for what was advertised as a “casual matchmaking mode” that worked to screw over people that didn’t get the last shot really did suck. I have spent plenty of Spartan Laser shots on high priority banshee boss targets, only for someone to steal the kill with a few burst of the Battle Rifle. While I would like for the team who did the majority of the damage to the boss (majority being at, or above 60%) to receive half points, even if they didn’t get the killing blow, meaning that one team may get 150 points for the kill, while the other team got 75 points for doing the majority of the work if the other team stole the boss kill. While I can concede on the allocation of points, I still believe that even if the other team steals a boss kill from you, but you did the majority of the work, you should still get the medal for the boss kill/assist. - While the game advertises it rotates maps enough, that we shouldn’t feel like we need to be able to vote for maps (which I still heavily believe we should be able to), there are still times that in Warzone I can bounce between only 2 of the 4 maps up to 5 times in a row before I see the 3rd or 4th map. I disagree with it, I wish that we would have had the option to vote for our maps, or that the matchmaking service was advanced enough to not bounce me between Stormbreak and Escape the A.R.K. for 5 games in a row. - We should be able to forge in REQ weapons into custom maps. I find it stupid that you have to use a weapon in Warzone, and pray that we keep it long enough to get some proper practice in with the weapon before dying. Having the option for forge in more powerful versions of those weapons would also allow for various maps to see a more balanced play if the geography of a map tended to favor a certain method of gameplay. - Assassinations should also show us a full animation of the takedown, rather than a still frame of it when choosing an animation. If we want to test assassinations right now, then we either need to try to get one in matchmaking, or ask a friend to be our test dummy for a few minutes because 343i didn’t have room for split screen, but they had room for pizza skinned weapons. - Custom game type option customization is a JOKE. Where in games like Halo Reach, you could make it that you got extra points for your team by getting sprees, or headshots, assassinations, or sticking an enemy, Halo 5 only has 3 options for how points can be provided in game: Killing an enemy, dying, or betraying. 343i needs to look at Halo Reach’s gametype options for customizing gametypes. - (This one is more opinion based, and I understand that others disagree). I feel like Free for All, should allow shields to come back to players while they are sprinting AND not stop use from sprinting if we haven’t reached full sprinting speed. Too often is the game about playing clean up crew to what had been a really fun gun fight between two players. Halo 5’s game mechanics heavily push us to play a team based game, but free for all is lone wolf, and the mechanics for FFA and Halo 5 don’t match well when you can’t run away from a fight after you just finished one. - Halo 5 is still lacking many heavily loved game types from past entries of the series like VIP, Juggernaut, Infection, and more main stays of the series. These game types are HEAVILY needed to create some custom gametypes that made for amazing custom games that Halo 5 cannot currently recreate. There are many things that I feel like 343i has done to really improve Halo 5 since it’s release, but that many key factors of what makes a good Halo game are still missing from a game after half a year has passed, and when it’s Microsoft’s posterboy… It’s tough to give 343i a pass, specially after how terribly MCC was handled. In many ways, I feel like Halo 5 was a piece of homework that a student would turn in, and expect to get a full 10/10 for it, but he didn’t provide the last 3 pages of the assignment. The teacher may still allow him to turn in the rest of the assignment, but they are going to be penalized for that work being late.
Some of my points above are just my opinions, but many are widely held among the community and hard to argue against. I love Halo, and I love many changes and fine polishing that 343i has done to matchmaking, but it doesn’t change that in my mind, Halo 5 should have come out a year later, after all these features were applied into the game. I’ve played Halo since the very beginning, and before that I watched my brothers play it on the computer… if Halo 6 has just as rocky a start as Halo 5, and it doesn’t come with the essentials of a Halo game in my mind, then I want Bonnie Ross to look me in the eye, and give me a heart felt apology that they let themselves be rushed into destroying another heavily anticipated game. It’s for that reason that I will commend 343i on their fixes to the series, but I WON’T forget their failures.
Much as I hate to say it…probably not.
People are going to complain for as long as there is stuff to complain about.
Its all good people! one love from a brother!

Neither does 343, apparently
