Can someone please tell me why people hate Reach?

I don’t understand why people don’t like Reach. I love this game. Maybe not as much as I love 2 and 3, but it’s still an outstanding game in my opinion.

My best guess is that they’re Halo elitists that think their favorite Halo is the greatest Halo and all the other Halos suck, to the point of hatred. They are generally bitter and nasty people to begin with.

I love Halo 2 the most, but that doesn’t mean I hate Reach. Reach is an excellent game. I just didn’t play it as much as Halo 2.

I played Reach the least out of all the Halos, but I still wish it was included on the Master Chief Collection. 343i could have called it The Halo Collection or something.

Lol and people like you are usually judgmental, idiotic fanboys.

People don’t like Reach because it was the start of all the armor ability crap that has contributed to the loss of popularity for Halo as a series. The ridiculously OP armor lock, the game breaking jet pack ability and the annoying as hell Invisibility powers are the worst offenders. Also, the DMR was a real issue when Reach was released. If you remember, the bloom on the DMR was terrible at release and Bungie took all kinds of grief for it. They fixed it somewhat after many months but the DMR never became the accurate, skill based weapon the community was expecting. All of this contributed to the perception that Reach, more or less, was made for noobs. The lack of any kind of skill system (other than Arena, which was a joke) certainly did not help the matter.

Before Cow goes all fanboy on me and accuses me of irrational hatred, there are some things Reach did right. The addition of sprinting was a welcome change, although it should have been default for everyone, and as usual the campaign was excellent. But as far as multiplayer goes, this was by far the worst Halo made. Reach marked the end of Halo as a truly competitive series and it will be (and is) regarded as the point when Halo started to decline.

Yeah, I can actually kind of see that. I didn’t really think the addition of the jetpack was that game-breaking, though, I’ve never been a part of the comp. scene. Armor Lock to me was more of an annoyance than anything. The Skill System wasn’t there, and Arena sucked. Yeah, I can kind of see why people bash Reach now. Still, I think it’s a great game. 2 and 3 are better though, without a doubt.

Love how the first thing you said was a blatant insult. Proves my point exactly.

No, actually, you proved my point.

You’re judgmental, because you assume everyone who has an issue with Reach is a bad person, and you’re idiotic, because you don’t respond to the legitimate points I brought up AND you’re too stupid to realize you’re the one who started with the insults.

Yea 2 & 3 are both great. Just to be clear, I don’t think Reach is terrible compared to a lot of games on the market, it’s just terrible IMO when compared to the rest of the Halo series. I would still play Reach over something like COD any day though.

Deep breaths bro. Its not that serious. No need to throw a tantrum.

By the way, if you want people to actually read what you say, try not to insult them the first sentence in. Some free life advice for you.

  • Almost all maps were unbalanced and asymmetrical
  • Terrible movement settings (slow base movement speed and low jumps, to give a reason for people to use Sprint and Jetpack)
  • Grenades were much more powerful than they should have been (because of the said terrible movement settings)
  • Introduction of Armour Abilities to the Halo series
  • Bloom
  • “Arena” playlists which never became competitive playlists
  • Lack of custom game options to adjust things like grenade damage, bloom, weapon damage, etc.

There were also complaints about the campaign from people who read the original Fall of Reach book and thought the game didn’t match up to it.

Honestly though the ZBNS MLG playlist for Reach was better than Halo 3, Halo 4, and the rest of Halo: Reach’s multiplayer combined.

> I don’t understand why people don’t like Reach. I love this game. Maybe not as much as I love 2 and 3, but it’s still an outstanding game in my opinion.

  • Armour Abilities had numerous balance issues in multiplayer, with some being of utterly no practical use in Campaign/Firefight vs others
  • The Cone of Fire mechanic dubbed “Bloom” became an endless debate of multiplayer balance regarding precision weapons (But a success for automatic weapons)
  • Base Game Map Design was highly asymmetric, and often didn’t accommodate Armour Abilities in their design well, if at all.
  • 343’s patch update after Bungie’s handover only created more new problems than solving existing ones, with the following one settling on fixing an objectively faulty mechanic caused by the previous patch.
  • Fall of Reach fans were unsettled by the potential amount of canon issues (Which I believe Halsey’s Journal addressed, but I never read it, nor plan to).

There were a fair number of reasons players including myself had significant issues with Halo: Reach, Matchmaking Multiplayer being the top victim of those issues. But you know what? I feel it had the most intelligent & fun-to-fight enemy AI in the franchise to date, and the Custom Games was unrivaled with so many unexpected gametypes like Haloball, Speed, Jetpack Grifball, etc, not counting Forge World being an unrivaled forge hub until the Skybox maps for H2A.

I certainly want to see this, along with Halo 3: ODST receive similar ports to Xbox One as Halo 3 & Halo 4, as I personally adore them for their more interesting new features, but you won’t catch me denying they didn’t get implemented without causing a new set of problems in regards to Halo: Reach!

Cuz it wasn’t about the master chief and it was a new campaign. Same with odst

Because of bloom

Halo reach was one of my fav halos

Bad writing, voice acting, level design, AI, and combat mechanics. The art was ugly (by any considerate definition of that word), the sound was poorly mixed (see combat dialog versus percussion), it codified multiplayer grinding for even less than what you get in an MMO, it imposed some rather obscene online restrictions, and it did nothing to rectify the long-standing problems with the series (developed over-linearity, systematic weapon imbalances, limited content/gameplay development since 2004.)

What mystery is there? Reach just wasn’t a very good shooter (I’d personally rank it below Timeshift, Blacksite: Area 51, and Fracture.)

i love reach but i think its because it takes forever to level up

or maybe its because we don’t know what happened to june wasn’t he in a pelican accident are what people tell me

I’m somewhat confused. There is no mandatory ‘grinding’ in Reach, it does not impact your gameplay at all unlike Halo 4, COD or Battlefield. Its purely aesthetics, and whilst a minor issue, its in no way game breaking. If it is, evidently you’re playing the game to ‘look cool’ rather than enjoying the game.

Art style was ‘stylised’ I believe. You get based on a new planet… not Earth, nor a Forerunner Halo. If anything I preferred the style, and was even an advancement on the series.

There are always weapon imbalances. Pistol Halo 1, BMR and the resulting BXR in Halo 2, Halo 3 was cringe worthy for me, and Reach…sure DMR slayed but was a worthy successor to the BMR and you could easily go rampant with any weapon in the game, including the focus rifle.

Wasn’t a very good shooter you say? Im hurt you even rate it near Timeshift. It was a new take on the Halo series, which to me added lore-wise, game play wise and gave me a great time.

People hate because they dislike the game, just like some people hate Halo 4, or hate Blops 2 or Battlefield 4. Its all personal taste. You do well at a game, you like it. You dont do well, you dont.

I played all Halo’s online and campaign extensively. In a way you could say Halo 2 had the best campaign but that is an opinion. Halo reach had the most variety in its story campaign. The story wasn’t the most inspiring but it definitely had the gameplay down the best out of all of the Halos. Honestly the only Halo MP I do not like is actually Halo 2. Halo reach was great till 343 -Yoink- all over the game code and released their maps. No I’m not being an elitist, they honestly screwed up things like the DMR and armor lock which I did not see one problem with any of the balance choices in Reach it honestly felt like the most balanced until they made the DMR like the BR in Halo 2 (people).

Reach is by far my favorite, its’ the one that I think about when I think of how the Halo story began or ended. The narrative is very well done in Reach through out the campaign, in halo 2 the story is well done as well but only in the arbiter parts.

Cuz it wasn’t about master chief

I don’t. It’s more popular than Halo 4.
