I’m not going to lie I play a lot of PC games I usually don’t play console games at all. However I am an avid halo fan, in this iteration of Halo the aiming to me just feels off. It seems to me it accelerates way to fast which leads to over compensating and just missing… a lot. I I don’t know if there is a setting I’m missing or something to turn the acceleration off. I also am confused about the new radar system. In previous Halo games the only way you were able to stay off the radar was not moving or crouch walking, In this game it seems like the radar is really selective about who you see and when you see them. I’m not trying to start a flame war or bash the game, I’m just trying to educate myself to become a better player.
We’re getting aiming tuning in an upcoming update (I think in December). We’ll be able to tune out X and Y axis … axis’s? is that plural? lol. Whatever. They’ve gotten a lot of gripes about acceleration and deadzones, so they’re letting us tune it up.

And with that in mind, we are also working on another little pet project that will allow even more precise tuning. This update will offer more custom fine-tuned control over controller settings (hint: independent vertical/horizontal sensitivities, the ability to calibrate your own dead zones, more granularity in sensitivity, and more). We hope to have that out for you in December and we will follow up with more details later.
I really hope that is true. By no means is this game a bad game It just, that the setting don’t really fit my style, and I’m suffering because of it. I Play a lot of Counter Strike Global Offensive at a semi high level, and I have to say all the tweaking of options is what made the game for me. I could do anything I wanted to fit how I like the mouse to feel. Oh God I really hope this comes to light.
Also, I thought I read somewhere that, in addition to the tune, there is a known bug that only affects some players and that they will patch asap. This could be what you’re experiencing.
I’m pretty sure they dropped this feature because it will eventually be an Xbox update feature and not game specific. Cool huh?
For the controls: Aim assist and similar variables are lower compared to previous Halos, plus there are larger analogue deadzones and such. Basically, they made aiming harder to promote a wider skill gap.
As for the radar: In Arena, the tracker range is only 18m. Warzone and previous Halo games had it around 25m. It throws all your instincts off about trusting the tracker, especially considering its a different range in Warzone and Campaign. Although some people are reporting bugs. Whether or not thats just the reduced range playing tricks remains to be seen.

I mean in all other Halo games I’ve leaned on my radar like a crutch. Should I not be doing that anymore?

^ This as well. I’ve played nothing but Halo 5 since launch until today when I hopped into the MCC and played a CE match and those two games aim remarkably similar. There’s actually quite a bit similar between those two in terms of the way they feel.
Actually, I’ve been wondering something and have never really gotten an answer on this: CE and Halo 5 are the only Halo games to have the reticle right in the center of the screen. All the others have the reticles in the lower third. What’s the significance of this?

With the reticle dead-center you’r seeing more of the ground directly in front of you and less of whatever is above you - better for fast, CQC game play. Reticle in the lower half of the screen means a better long-range view - better suited to larger maps, BTB, campaign, etc. Where they put the reticle tells you a lot about what kind of game play they’re trying to emphasize.
