Can someone fill me in...

… I am a long time Halo player. Love the series. Halo 4 has some issues but I enjoy it, although the addiction to the game is not as high previous installations, maybe too much hype I gave myself, who knows.

ANYWAY…back to the point.

I have never played a COD game so I got Black Ops 1 a while back. didn’t play too much multiplayer, not sure why. Since the whole Spec issue where I couldn’t rank up I decided to play MP in Black Ops 1. I played for 3-4 days until I got my spec op code. All the while I read tons of topics about halo v COD and Halo ripped off COD and COD is this and Halo is that. So after playing BO1 for a few days I didn’t understand the comparission. the games are completely different in my view. sci-fi shooter vs military real life based shooter.

I am not a fan of the 1-2 shots and u die in COD and I noticed a lot of people stayed in buildings or laid at the top of a staircase just waiting for people, I am not a fan of this type of gameplay at all. I don’t dislike COD in anyway, not too experienced in COD so may be this is why I am not attracted to it. Needless to say, the topics comparing the 2 are completely unjustified. the tactics i use for Halo are not even remotely close to what is needed in COD at this point in my COD career anyway. Can someone explain, without flaming either game, why people, compare the 2 all the time?

I prefer the Halo style of MP. Although I think the best MP is Crysis 2, even with all its flaws - Crysis 2 is a sleeper in terms of MP experience, I still prefer Halo over COD and don’t understand the obsession with Black Ops. thanks gamers, happy gaming.

It’s just the old prevailing philosophy of human-kind, “Them vs. Us.”

Skiers vs. Snowboarders

Left vs. Right

Red vs. Blue

Don’t let it get to you. It just leads to headaches. People for some reason just can’t respect other’s preferences.

Pretty much what Gold just said I play both COD and Halo and just prefer Halo.

It’s like comparing apples to oranges.

you’re probably right. Just after putting in multiple hours I started thinking…“why is everyone comparing? 2 totally different games.” its like comparing GoW to GTA because they are both 3rd person, totally different. Still can’t grasp the simularites. I can’t beleive how many units BOps has sold, I don’t see the massive appeal. its ok but to sell like crazy I was expecting something out of this world.

Hehe. Yep.

I was playing with a buddy of mine who really likes COD. We played for a while and I was like “ok, this is cool. not a bad MP. umm what else is there?” he said “well we did MP, we did, barebones, we did core, we did Zombies, thats about it.”
really…? this sold a bazillions of copies? this is it? wow, i was really expecting a mind blowing experience. I do like the contract you can buy and the perks are cool but it almost makes me want to get BO2 to see what the craze is about. Don’t get me wrong, not bashing COD, have nothing against it. its an ok experience just not the fanatic craze that people give it. Anytime Halo acts weird i will play BO1 so it will do as a backup I guess.

Because of similar features, no doubt the gameplay is actually very different.

I play Call of Duty as well. Call of Duty: Black Ops II is my first Call of Duty game. As soon as I got done playing some Halo matchmaking, I went and played some Call of Duty. When I first played a game of Call of Duty in Mathcmaking, I was going out looking for people. It took like 40 seconds to find someone. Seconds later I heard gunshots and someone dying in front of me. I was like “Okay, so the killer should be on the right of me.” I turned to my right and didn’t see anything. Next thing you know I was killed, like WTF?! It showed the kill cam and it shoswed that he was laying down on his stomach waiting for people to come through. I got so so mad. This is all people do in Call of Duty. They sit there and make you look like a fool. Especially on the final kill cams. I think this is how you play Call of Duty, because the developers even have the bots doing it.

surprises me every time they release a new identical iteration

Halo and CoD are both FPS’s that compete with each other. For a long time, Halo was considered the best FPS on console by far, really the King of FPS. Then CoD came and took the crown and became the most popular. These titles have been competing for so long that people have really developed loyalties to one or the other and that’s where a lot of the fighting comes from.

IMO, CoD is inherently flawed and a frustrating game. If the developers put more time and effort into it then the title would be one of the best experiences ever, but instead there is always some BS in the game.

I’ve played all of the Halo’s and CoD’s (minus Blop2) to date and all are enjoyable in there own right. The only really comparison that can be made, in my opinion, is that both are fps’s. I’ve rummaged through and halo and CoD forums the like and found that the hate on for Halo by CoD fans is much greater than vise versa! It seems that Halo fans respect the CoD franchise but rather play there preferred game. A lot of halo fans, it seem play CoD and enjoy it but prefer Halo. I can get into both, but in no way can you transfer tactics from one to the other. Everyone has there own preference and keep quiet about it, others are diehards and defend there preferred game at all costs.

Dare I say it:

Halo 4 is the first Halo that has me contemplating playing a CoD game for the very first time…

Here is the deal, When halo came out with multiplayer it created an entire genre of gaming that did not exist beforehand. And therefore pooled a large number of gamers in this new arena. Now that the genre has been developed, us gamers have discovered that we prefer different aspects of the Multiplayer FPS.
Many like the lay in wait, and then spray and pray style that COD does well. Some prefer more of a smash mouth in your face CQC melee, or the long distance large map, heavy weapons, integrated combat, or the competitively balanced, team based, midrange slayers, that Halo still does well. But with the diversity of tastes comes a breakdown of the pooled communities into smaller groups. The more specific the nitch of the group is, the smaller it is, and the less gamers are available for play.
Everyone wants to have the game there way. The Competitive Gamers as they call themselves, have won there battle, but lost the war. By demanding strict adherence to specially balanced maps and games, they have chased away the fan base to less competitive more social formats, i.e. COD, BTB, FLOOD, SWAT and so on. Now they blame bungie / 343 rather than just accepting that the majority was never competitively minded to begin with. The quality of the Halo multiplayer has not diminshed one bit over the years, the expectations of some of the halo fans are just unrealistic.

I have lived long enough to see the video game crash of 1983, Sega vs Nintendo Sony vs Nintendo and Xbox PS3 or Wii.

This is just another thing people can argue about.

End of story

I play both games, BO II is garbage

Dumb people will be dumb. Most of my friends play both and enjoy both for what they are. I personally don’t enjoy COD so I don’t play it.
