Y’all I’m so lost. Just played ranked strongholds. I had the guest KD, and the most caps by a few and our team won. Someone on my team jumped up half a level and I didn’t move at all…. How the heck are you supposed to rank up!? Is it KD, is it playing the objectives?
From how I understand it, it’s your KDA along with the ranks/CSR of yourself relative to your opponent. Here’s an example: You’re a Diamond 2, and your teammates are Diamond 1, Platinum 5 and Platinum 3. And say you faced off against a Diamond 2 & 4, Platinum 6, Onyx. Say your KDA in that game was 3.0 but your Platinum 3 teammate popped off and had a KDA of 10. Well, that guy will gain more rank because he exceeded his expected performance from the game’s ranking algorithm. If that makes sense? Someone can probably explain that better, but I think that’s the gist of it.
The major factor in going up is whether or not you perform better than people who are rated above you. It’s a skill based ranked system. It’s not one you can just keep climbing forever, even if you’re winning. You can only go up if you’re actually better than those that you are passing by.
If you beat a 4-year-old at chess, no one will be impressed your rating won’t go up. But if the 4-year-old beats you, their rating will go way up, and yours will go way down.
So for the game you described in the OP, I would guess that going into the match, you were already favored by a decent margin to win.
Read up on ELO ratings. Halo doesn’t use ELO exactly, but it operates on similar principles.
