Honestly, in Halo Reach, I’d rather face an enemy with armor lock than one with the rocket luancher. At least one I can wait out and have a remedy for, the other, I’m -Yoinked!- as soon as they pick it up. I’m not asking it to be nerfed, just maybe make its area of effect smaller so it actually takes skill and aim, not just have it land a meter away and still have it kill me.
But… That is why it is a power weapon. Because of the blast radius.

It’s a power weapon.

It does take skill to use, believe me or not. If you try to aim a rocket at your opponent’s center of mass, he can and will outstrafe it.

I understand, however, the rockets is nearly unstoppable. I can battle the shotty, sword, and snipes, but the rockets is ridiculous. At least in HR.
This is why I like snipers and the nade launcher. They take skill. But honestly if I have something to complain about it would be the concussion rifle. It throws you around so much you can berely defend yourself. Worse than rockets in my opinion.
It has 4 rockets. Saying they get 6 kills, which is pretty good for 4 shots, that isn’t very much, and easy to overcome. Theres also the possibility of the enemy missing, or dieing. when shot from long range rockets are easy to dodge since they’re so slow. snipers or a DMR at its max range can easily take out the rockets.
Halo Bulletin 8.8.12:
> The big differences from past versions are that the projectile speed has been upped a hair to help compensate for the overall faster pace of our game and the splash damage is a bit larger.
I don’t think it’s being nerfed.

That made me cringe when I read it, but thanks anyways. Now I know to use the ever-OP PV and, if I see rocks, to -Yoink-.
No
The simple answer is because it’s a power weapon. And it’s meant to be godly, I think the only power weapon which should take skill to use is the sniper (And maybe the sticky detonator)
The skill of rockets has never been in the usage, but the control of them. Their immense power makes them the most important power object on any map that includes them. If you lose the rockets, you will be punished for it. That’s their meaning in gameplay and that’s why their usage doesn’t require large amounts of skill. They are meant to be a guaranteed kill when you get them.

Have you ever tried taking out a gunmen from 50 meters with just a rock? Takes a lot more skill than you think.
OT- The problem with rockets in reach was that all explosives had too wide a blast radius, and too much damage at the outer-most layers of the splash. Luckily splash damage was nerfed in halo 4 to our knowledge, so grenades, rockets, tanks and just about any explosive effect in the game will do much less damage than in reach. They still will be effective though.
And its kind of hard to make worthwhile rockets take skill. Its a rocket launcher; an explosive power weapon with ease of splash damage. Its supposed to be the weapon that rewards fast players who get it first the ability to take out vehicles and players with ease. Its also nice to have at least one power weapon that can be picked up and used by most everyone. Thats why rockets usually only spawn with 1 extra clip(which means 4 rockets in all) and the longest possible respawn time, as well as usually one 1 rocket launcher per map(2 sometimes in BTB). Plus, its that ease of use that leads them to usually being placed in tight areas to hold, giving good map flow in these areas.

Son, you have the highest tech weapons available. My company, they had two sticks and a rock. And we had to share the rock.

Or you could use thruster pack to dodge the rocket. Or jetpack to sky to prevent rockets from hitting you. Or fool him to shoot your hologram and then spam him with grenades? See? It’s not that hard to counter rocket launcher.
Also HL shield seems to protect you from rockets if it hits your shield.
Check armor abilities and then HL shield. In the picture spartan uses shield to protect himself against rocket.
So you want the rockets to stop being rockets?
Rockets don’t need a skill gap. Their purpose is 4 free kills for whoever has the foresight and ability to win the area of the drop at the correct time.
Sniper rifles are power weapons that need a skill gap.
Why do you keep calling them rocks? They’re rockets.
> Why do you keep calling them rocks? They’re rockets.
Often in competitive commentary or communication it’s just abbreviated to rocks for convenience.
I can agree with this. Just because a power weapon is a power weapon doesn’t mean you should just be able to point and shoot it. Look at Halo CE’s rockets, they had a smaller blast radius and a much slower RoF than Reach’s. That’s how I’d prefer Halo 4’s to be. I was pretty disappointed when I heard the projectile speed is going to be faster with a bigger blast radius though.
But then again, the game isn’t final. Let’s hope it changes.
I laughed when i imagined the OP was talking about actual rocks. They are very skillful
I have to say they should take skill to use but they won’t. And if they did people would complain about it. The only reason i really dislike the rockets is because i do not believe they should be in the arena playlist. I raged because of that. If there is an arena let it be automatic and assault rifles.
