Yes, I guess they’re just avoiding ladders more and more because it looks akward when he climbs them.
I know for a fact that elites are supposed to have trouble with ladders but you never see it in any of the games.

Ladders were missing in H4. 
Ladders have been replaced by Gravity Lifts and Man Cannons. There were a lot of ladders in Halo CE, though from Halo 2 onwards they usually avoided them. My guess is that they thought it was awkward moving up and down them during gameplay, especially during a fight. It’s a lot easier to go up to the next floor using a Grav Lift than it is with a ladder. You can aim and shoot a lot easier while going up a Man Cannon/Grav Lift too, because you don’t control the movement.
They must have been bloody strong ladders to support a 500kg Spartan.

But yes Chief can climb ladders, I mean in the first mission of four he climbs the side of a ship hull.
Man Cannons are way cooler too then ladders especially for a sci-fi game ladders just seem old fashioned
Forerunners don’t need ladders duuhh
It’s the Spartan IVs that can’t climb ladders. Their hands tend get stuck to the metal rungs like they are made out of flag poles.
When you have a jetpack you don’t need to climb ladders.

Oh man, getting Halo 3, marveling at the graphics and then watching Chief in the first level just float up that ladder without a pause still goes down as one of the most noteworthy things in Halo.
