Yes, this is a positive post about matchmaking. Who’d have thunk it?
Have 343i’s quiet efforts to improve matchmaking finally began trickling through to players? I’ve been one of the many players who since launch has had nothing but crippling experiences with lag and broken JIP, but last night and all day today (UK time) I’ve had almost consistently great connections. Bar the odd bad late-game lagfest, the game has finally began matching me with players of seemingly close proximity resulting in excellent latency conditions and JIP weighting seems to have been drastically reduced - with lobbies sometimes taking their merry time to hold out for fresh players - which is MARVELLOUS.
I’m happy. The game rocks, most of the time.
I hope I’m not mistaken here, I hope it holds out and continues to improve. I’ll be very disappointed if this turns out to be nothing but good fortune, a flash in the pan. For now though, I shall say thank you to 343i.
I was noticing the same over the last week. Most of the JiP matches I was a part of filled within two minutes of the game beginning, or I jumped in while the game was early. Similarly, matchmade games while searching in a party yielded long search times and we were matched with similarly skilled opponents. I’m 100% ok with this.
Connection issues in big team seem to linger though.
Also noticed this, less JIP to losing games and almost NO lag whatsoever BTB is known for being laggy due to the number of players, so I’m not gonna judge too harshly on that.
Actually, you’re right about BTB. I had two matches of it earlier and both had yellow bars. The second one was also a late game join (on the losing team).
Thankfully it’s a gametype I rarely frequent, but yeah; there’s definitely still work to be done.
