Can I get a serious answer without flaming?

I have played Halo since CE on Xbox. Wasted countless hours in multiplayer, played through the campaigns more times than any other game. I have my opinions and preferences in the series, but can I get an honest answer. Why is there so much hate for Halo Reach. I loved it and I thought the multiplayer had great balance, especially the DMRs bloom made it more accessible for intermediate players to hang with expert players. I loved the maps and how Bungie decided to integrate em with e campaign to give players so background on where they were playing aside from the descriptions in the map select or online. I still love Halo 2 the most and think Halo 3s multiplayer was more “fun” than Reach but I don’t understand the hate. I personally believe Halo Reachs multiplayer is more halo than Halo 4.

i like halo reach more than halo 4

I think this is the wrong section to post this in, but the reason people have so much hate on reach is because the gameplay seemed too different from 2 and 3. Reach was actually the game that brought me into the Halo series so I don’t feel it is a bad game. I have played every single Halo game besides Wars yet Reach is actually one of my favorite games. The only thing I wasn’t satisfied with was the campaign. Halo 2 has the best campaign and Halo 3 has the best multiplayer. Halo 4 is the worst of course, but it is still a great game and the beginning of something new.

I dont know I actually enjoyed reach, save for a few aspects. It was still an enjoyable game, and still for the most part played like an arena style shooter.

-The randomness
-The bad strafe
-Armor Lock
-Armor Abilities
-Asymmetrical spawns
-Bad maps
-Poorly-optimized Forge
-Lack of powerups on default maps
-Matchmaking didn’t work; it randomly matched players based on whatever

You will get people who love a game and people who hate it. Its the same for any game that has ever been made.

Plus the internet gives people a place to voice their opinions which are normally biased.

The way i see it dont let people tell you what a game is like find out for yourself.

Personally i consider reach one of the best halo’s to date.

except for 2 (this is afterreading complaints from other posts h4’s forum) I would say you were talking about h4

Well I had some gripes with a lot of that too. Armor lock was garbage, forge maps got bland, and there wasn’t a competitive skill ranking. It wasnt game breaking though. It was a fun change from Halo 3. The multiplayer in Halo 3 was better competitively, but Reach was still fun

All of the things listed were game breaking for me.

Armor Lock made me rage more than any other gameplay dynamic in the history of all games. Sad, yes, I know; but true. Once I decided to give up on matchmaking I never touched it again. Oh, and I never really liked the maps either.

I feel people keep squinting to make Reach or 4 look like Halo 3. Many of them want no change, or want it to be so perfectly implemented that the expectations are unreasonable.

“Adapt” gets crushed on these boards, but I don’t care. It’s your own fault if you’re not playing the game it was intended to be played.

I liked Reach and plan on going back to get the last few thousand credits for Inheritor, but I haven’t found the time to take Halo 4 out yet. One of these days, though.

-Betrayal booting for vehicles and weapons. I have never ever witnessed this on H2 and H3 only on reach did it happen at least for me.

Reasons I hate Reach:

-Armor Lock
-Armor Lock again
-handnukes (grenades)
-someone had the bright idea of making the already powerful sniper into an anti-vehicle weapon
-introduction of paper vehicles
-armor abilities introduced (jetpack breaks every map)
-classes introduced
-needlessly taking out dual wielding
-removing online ranks so little Timmy doesn’t get his feelings hurt
-bloom being implemented horrificly
-very few memorable maps

I could go on all day.

There were some good things like forge world, custom options (although I never play them personally), new game modes (headhunter and stockpile were fun), and I liked the needle rifle and the other new weapons for the most part. This wasn’t enough to outweigh the rest for me.

I sort of have the same question. I don’t know why, but I don’t really like Reach. The campaign was a major disappointment for me personally, and I didn’t really like the DMR. Also Firefight wasn’t like I expected, I thought it would be just like ODST but with more customization. Multiplayer sort of got old for me. But Forge World… Man I love forge world. I spent almost all of my time playing Forge world when on Reach, I feel like Bungie hit the head on the nail with Forge, or however that saying goes. But I know my dad has been playing it non stop for three years, so he obviously loves it. Its just a matter of opinion really.

Humanity at it’s finest: CE was original, and was awesome (preordered too!). Halo 2 introduced new stuff and was complained about. Halo 3 was, my opinion, one of the best titles, but H2 had some better stuff. Reach was all new, but H3 was better. Halo 4 is new, but Reach is better. This is the process going through most gamer’s minds. The previous title is always better (not necessarily in my opinion). People cannot adapt to the ever changing industry, and therefore ridicule the new over the old. Yes, 343i killed some aspects of the good Halo (adding ordinance for example…ugh…) but upgraded some as well (I will come back to a good example). I, honestly hated Reach when it came out, because it kept the med pack health system which was annoying since ODST. As I played, it got more interesting. Now H4 comes out, and I see how good Reach really was. It’s all a matter of perspective, and opinion. People wanted killstreaks in Halo (not me, I love the even advantages between players), BAM! ordinance, now people do nothing but complain about it. People wanted a more customizable Halo, now complain it is too much like COD. Can’t please humanity…never will…

I feel all the games have their positives, and negatives. To answer your question, human nature does not like change. Every game had changes, so people loved - or hated each game.

I love all the games. Each for what they have to offer.

Allow me to rephrase this for you:

-The bad strafe-still better than Halo 4
-Armor Lock (ok, I’ll give you this one and only this one)
-Armor Abilities-still better than Halo 4
-Asymmetrical spawns-still better than Halo 4
-Bad maps-still better than Halo 4
-Poorly-optimized Forge-still better than Halo 4
-Lack of powerups on default maps-still better than Halo 4
-Matchmaking didn’t work; it randomly matched players based on whatever-still better than Halo 4 (until recently)

I really really liked Reach. IN fact I’m thinking about having a community playdate for my blog - halofanforlife.com in Reach. (and Halo Wars as well)

I prefer the weapons spawning on the map at specific locations and at specific times. Playing as a team you had to use team work to hold that area when the power weapons was going to spawn. It’s TOO random in Halo 4. Not knowing who has what…Any noob can now pwn you unexpectedly. Sure, that’s good for the noob, but not the dedicated gamer of this franchise.

Yes, I get that 343 wants to make Halo accessible to more people, but they have alienated so much of the core fandom in doing so. You know…the ones who keep coming back. I’ve lost too many gamer friends to other games due to the drastic changes in Halo 4.

/Rant

> -The bad strafe-still better than Halo 4

I played some ZBNS in Reach. The strafe felt absolutely awful.

> -Armor Abilities-still better than Halo 4

Yeah, that broken Jetpack, radar-jamming Camo, and Evade were all stellar.

> -Asymmetrical spawns-still better than Halo 4

I’ll give you this one. But Reach still had AR starts.

> -Bad maps-still better than Halo 4

Not by much. Reach had 3 playable disc maps. 2 were bad, and Powerhouse was actually good.

> -Poorly-optimized Forge-still better than Halo 4

I don’t have nearly as many framerate or lighting issues in Halo 4 as I did in Reach.

> -Lack of powerups on default maps-still better than Halo 4

At least powerups make an appearance in Halo 4 matchmaking.

> -Matchmaking didn’t work; it randomly matched players based on whatever-still better than Halo 4 (until recently)

Still an issue.

Aside from descoping and the Grenade Launcher, Halo 4 with a few tweaks is tons better than Reach.

Everyone for the most part has explained already why I hate Reach. It strayed away from true Halo and ruined the Halo franchise possibly forever. No more is it about the skill of a player. It’s now about using crutches like AA’s to get free ‘get out of jail cards’ in situations they have no right living through

when you say “people cant adapt” it seems that youre implying that theres some aspect of the game that becomes “too hard to do” for most players and thus creates fury. Unfortunately, since, and including, Halo 3, to reach, and 4, the only thing needed to really “adapt” to, was the fact that the game no longer will ever play the way it should. Halo CE, Halo 2 (mostly), there were no game breaking aspects in anything really. You always knew what to do, where to go, whats going to happen, pretty much. It all -made sense-. Things now spawn out of thin air, for no reason at all. thats unadaptable. Halo reach armor lock. 4 seconds of invulnerability. unadaptable. bloom. adaptable, but not in any sense of complete consistancy compared to a trigger masher. Its just little by little, things are added so that little johnny and his two sisters will enjoy the game a little bit more because people who have the means to dominate in the world of halo become diminished in every new game. The game slips farther and farther out of anyones control. nobody in control = cluster.

I fail to see how Halo 4 is actually customizable either. Most peoples complaints are lack of ability to edit a great deal of things in game settings, lack of game settings, lack of map building forge control, etc. a loadout to choose from 2 or 3 OP things doesnt really change too much, besides give people yet another way to actually lose control. TBH, the inclusion of an entire new race of weapons makes it mostly a cluster again, due to the fact that Halo has shields. In COD, the weapon just almost doesnt matter. a couple spurts, hes dead. Halo is a shootshootshootshootshootshoot game, and makes it overly complicated to have any worthwhile weapon balance.
