Nearly everyone is saying how 343 needs to get rid of all the COD aspects and make Halo 5 just like Halo 2/3, and while I am completely neutral on whether the COD aspects stay or go (If anything I’d want them to go just so the community was happy) there is one COD aspect that I actually enjoy would would be ashamed to see it go.
Hit Markers
Am I the only one who enjoys having these? I personally like it when I can see which of my shots are hitting/missing or if someone runs behind cover and I toss a grenade I can see if I deal any damage to them. I absolutely hated it in Halo 3/Reach when I’d be certain I’m hitting someone but there shields don’t flicker at all so I keep having to guess whether my shots hit or not (Halo 3’-Yoink!- detection and Reach’s bloom didn’t help the problem either).
So what do you think about Hit Markers? do you want to see them stay? or go with all the other COD aspects? I’m interested to hear everyone’s opinions.
EDIT: Lots of people are mentioning Grenade Indicators and I would just like to note that when I’m talking about Hit Markers I’m literally just talking about Hit Markers. I am putting Grenade Indicators into the category of I don’t care if they stay or go. I am NOT stating in this thread I want Grenade Indicators to stay.
Hit markers and grenade indicators are the least of my concern. Sure, they are a “generic shooter” aspect, but it’s not necessarily a bad one.
Though, I would definitely prefer a toggleable option in the base player traits. Having the option to turn it on and off is certainly better than being forced to use it or ditch it.
Hitmarkers should not be on any type of grenade. Or any other explosive-type weapon.
I am fine with having hitmarkers on other weapons though, even though I definetly don’t need it, and see Halo’s flare-system as a perfectebly suitable system alone.
Actually, we shouldn’t have any other type of weapon hitmarker either, as we now have dedicated servers - Only Halo’s flare system.
If anyone seriously hates them on general weapons though they are just being close minded and idiotic. They have literally no detrimental effect on gameplay, regardless if they are “from CoD” or not.
What if there was a support upgrade in halo 5 that enabled hit markers and grenade indications? I think that would be good. If they were not inherent traits players who like them could consider taking the support upgrade, players who don’t care about them or need them could choose a different SU.

Another example of removing base traits and forcing players to choose between them and somewhat else, i.e. nerfing the player. Bad.
Like others have said OP, weapon hit markers are fine, grenade indicators however are controversial…but I liked it when grenades were more effective than what they are now…Halo 4 is basically the game of wasted grenades.

I have no problem with Hit makers and Grenade Indicators. There are some things that are worth taking from other games, if it improves your game. I thought these were valid.
The H4 MiniMap has been great, But I love it that for vehicles it also indicated the direction of the vehicles turrets. This would improve the H4 already awesome MiniMap.

PERKS were the worst things added to Halo. The player base traits have been almost identical in all previous Halo games, but 343 completly change it for H4 and add perks. THIS EQUAL FAIL BIG TIME
Hit markers should go. They ruin the strategic gameplay that made Halo so unique and competetitive. Now we have Promethean vision to see through walls, we have spawn kills, plasma grenades in the loadouts. I mean, what happen to the strategy?
I’ll tell you why hit marker sucks: you’re trying to reach the enemy’s flag hidden behind a wall. A guy activates Promethan vision and throws a granade. He hits you. No problem, his vision depleted. Guess what? He throws another grenade. No hit marker, he knows you are not there. Throws another grenade to the other side. HIT MARKER = DEAD.
Grenade indicator is exactly the same thing. These features are present in other shooters due to the lack of skill needed. It helps newbie players to survive in the battlefield. The real Halo is different, we didn’t have anything but our BR and our skill.
I hate both things. If 343i wants me back, get rid of these unfair features.
hitmarkers need to be removed from anything that does splash damage, can be rebounded, projectiles that follow opponents or anything that doesn’t travel in a strict linear path. if it removes it from these things then there is no detriment other than personal preference (could make annoying sounds or visuals off-putting)

nah i’d say PoDs first equal with heavily customizable loadouts, universal sprint, flinch, JiP, no flag drop, instant respawn, no weapons on map, promethean weapon set, armour abilities and low despawn time all trying to get as close as possible.

On the other hand, the hit markers you get with grenades are good to find this silly campers in swordrooms, shutgunholes and camper corners.
We dont have to talk about Promethian Vision. Its gamebreaking and maybe one of the worst addition to Halo 4.
Of all my aspirations and dreams for Halo 5, this doesn’t even make the Extended Edition. Seriously, though, I subconsciously notice them and use them, so I’d like 'em to stay.
I don’t mind hitmarkers but we don’t need grenade indicators. It’s far too easy to evade grenades even when they’re spammed because you can see them from far away with the indicator.
Even if it lands behind you, it’s so easy to run away from and gives you more than enough time.
As a fan of the “classic” Halo who is against all the CoD additions we saw to the series, hit markers is one of the things I actually like. Grenade indicators however, not so bueno
It’s not a bad feature at all, and helps the player learn if they are actually hitting their target. Especially useful when we can bounce a grenade around and hit a potential camper, or if the game is a little laggy.
