We already know that Halo 5 Guardians will sell a heap ton of copies. My question is can Halo 5 garner the attention that the series once had in the Halo 3 days. Honestly, im a bit skeptical. Halo 5 is going to have tons of competition this year with the likes of Black ops 3 and Battlefront 3. I’m quite confident that the campaign will exceed our expectations and review scores will be great ( Shooter of the year possibly ). But, what about the multiplayer?
For me it seems that 343 is taking the right step in multiplayer, but they could do more. Halo 1 was the beginning of halo and showed the masses that a console can have an awesome first person shooter.
Halo 2 completely improved the combat functions of halo 1 and showed everyone that multiplayer and a thriving community is completely possible on a console.
Halo 3 completely improved over the last two and added amazing community features like forge and theater mode. Which led to awesome game-types, including infection, grifball, duckhunt, etc…
Even Halo ODST added firefight mode, which was actually relatively popular
Halo Reach introduced armor abilities, ( which many don’t like)
The bottom line is, what will Halo 5 bring to the table? Really, to me it seems like Warzone fills that hole. But really, all I see is something that will not be played a couple months from release, as it looks to appeal to the casual audience ( Its not out yet, we will see).
Can Halo 5 truly Excel like Halo 1,2 and 3 did ? Or will we see thread posts on waypoint a couple months after Halo 5’s release, discussing the low population of the game ?
I also left a video with further discussion here. Check it out and overall, let me know what you guys think.
All signs point to multiplayer being excellent, and combined with what’s shaping up to be strong post-launch support from 343, I think Halo 5 will indeed excel.
Yeah, I think it will excel. It has a lot going for it, not only is it going to capture the imagination of a whole new generation, they’ve finally been faithful to the older fanbase and created Arena. I feel like it’s going to be the worthy successor to Halo 3 that halo 4 (and to a lesser extent, Reach) never were.

Agreed, Halo 5 will excel. As you mention, 343 is doing a good job of introducing the franchise to a whole new generation while still satisfying the original trilogy fans. You also make a good point in the sense that, although not numerically, Halo 5 feels like a proper follow-up to Halo 3. People are buzzing, preorders are through the roof, and 343 has worked tirelessly to satisfy old school Halo supporters while making meaningful changes that don’t detract from what makes Halo unique. I think of Halo 5 as their Halo 2.
A larger sandbox campaign, a renewed focus on competitive (balanced!) arena multiplayer, and a new mode (Warzone) built from the ground up to modernize Halo and capture the less “hardcore” player leads me to believe that Halo 5 will enjoy great short and long-term success.
I hope so it has the right ingredients to excel, lets just hope for a great launch and addicting gameplay that will keep people around for a long time.
Who knows with windows 10 connectivity, on the way…quite possibly
But on topic, it will sell well. Longevity though, all depends on the tools 343 gives the community.
Nowhere near Halo 3. The market conditions for Halo 3 are like that prime cut of steak that you cooked perfectly and marinated for days. It was so good, but youll never get that again. At least for a while.
Halo 5 will have huge success. And it seems to appeal to enough people to give us a long term and short term success
Yes…I believe it can compare to the Halo 3 days.
It will get beat out at launch by cod, obviously, but over time Halo will keep its population and cod won’t. I think cod players will be experiencing some buyer’s remorse (i actually spent $60 on this heap of -Yoink-?). Used to happen to me every time until i finally gave up on the franchise.

Unless zombies is as good as Black Ops 1 days. Then we may see some pop split. I may be one of them…
Oh gosh, I hope so. I don’t think it’s going to reach Halo 3-level of popularity but I do think Halo 5: Guardians will be a smash hit. The gameplay looks solid. Guardians could be 343 Industries’ Halo 2.
In addition, there’s been no news about the Halo television series but the announcement of it was years ago and I think we’ll finally see something soon. So the television series should help garner interest in the franchise for new fans.

Strong Post Launch Support? Not sure if i am understanding. Are you talking about advertisements?
i think it will for all the things we have saw on the beta and the history on hunt the truth, the free dlc, warzone, etc. For me this Halo is gonna be great not like Halo 4 that was for me the worst Halo…
It’ll do great but Halo will never be as popular as it was, there are to many games out there now.

I believe he means free DLC/implementations of new playlists
I believe Halo 5 will excel, not just in multiplayer, but in campaign. The campaign has so much lore thrown in, Blue team and they also have that Halo 2 effect where I can play as Chief and Locke. Halo 5 will be beautiful, it will beat Halo 3. That’s right, I said it. Halo 5 will shrek and wreck Halo 3
I didn’t play the Halo 5 beta (on purpose) as I’m played more betas than I care to admit in my time and find I like keeping things a surprise. So it is difficult for me to give an accurate judgement.
I do think Halo 5 can excel and I think it may be “that game” this year. CoD numbers have gone down with their last few titles and Halo numbers have only ever gone up. As far as H1, 2, 3 style success I really don’t think any game can have that type of success anymore. We’re just in a different time for console gaming now. From everything I’ve heard the multiplayer was great during the beta and the campaign is every nerds wet dream (including mine haha) so I think it will excel as good as any other game in today’s standards.

Many are calling this 343’s Halo 2…if this is true, then expect Halo 5 to excel; actually not only will it excel but it will bring a resurgence to the Halo community, sales will increase, and a better, more experienced 343 because of it. If Halo 5 succeeds, 343 Industries will not only be the ones who destroyed Halo (in some people’s eyes), but will be the one that saved Halo and rebuilt it from the ashes into something fresh that still feels like…Halo. I hope this is true or we might actually see some of the community decline.
