Can Forge save Halo 5's DLC crisis?

Greetings folks, first off I want to start by saying that this topic was an idea shelled out by a YouTube user by the name of, BDobbinsFTW.(Hate him, like him, sue me) So I decided to stop by the Halo forums and spread the message here. I don’t know about you folks, but just maybe Forge created maps could actually make an impact, and change the way we play matchmaking. So instead of your average match taking place in a standard map created by the developers. Perhaps your match could take place in a fun Forge map that was community created, carefully tested, and chosen from an in game poll.

Now if you look closely modding and other form of community created content is slowly starting to evolve and rub off on gaming consoles. Since 343 has given us a variety of tools to use in the forge game mode. Perhaps it’s time we actually take advantage of this opportunity to make community use of it, and possibly expand the game’s life span.

We even have evidence that attest to the fact of which community driven sandbox games such as Halo Custom Edition(PC), Gmod, MineCraft, etc are still alive today because of players coming back to create and build new things, and continue to build the game’s life spans.

As we see now, 343’s DLC content is struggling to meet a lot of Halo fan’s demands, and the outcomes just get worse. We now have various game modes such as infection as one example, and some new maps. Though none of which really satisfy the demand. But maybe forge created content could actually benifit infection, including other game modes Halo 5 currently has to offer knowing that there’s a number of people who can actually get creative with forge.

343 should lay out an in game opportunity for forge users. The in game message should be IMO: “You want to create something that possibly upon thousands of people could play? Gather up with some friends or yourself, submit your forge creations to the in game forge marketplace, and the community will play test your map. Once your map has been approved, your map will be submitted to the polls, and 3 lucky poll winners will have their map played in matchmaking.(It is required that your map supports all or one of the game modes)” Obviously the poll thing sounds quite bias, but this is just something for you guys to expand on. Though just reading the in game message itself, there could exist people who would totally do that and it sounds like a fun activity people can dive right into along with their friends. But as far as anything, there should definetly be an easy to find in game marketplace of some kind where forge creators can submit their creations, the community can play test them, and rate them passible to be played in matchmaking.

This sounds like a great idea, but the one obstacle is that this could hurt 343’s sales on DLC content, and may result in no longer FREE DLC. But this could also be a healthy idea mainly to expand the game’s life span, encourage competition, encourage inspiration, and possibly repopulate the game.

It sounds like a risk as well, but I feel it’s a risk that deserves to be expanded upon. I love Halo to death, but we need to feel like a community again.

  • OP? I’m a Zealot.

The problem is that the Cartographer system is flawed so a bunch of new map creators will never get their maps featured or even tested out.

Though I completely agree with your base point. At the current rate, the developer maps will not keep people interested in playing.

I think that forge can help fill the void that we will have once the DLC stops coming, it’s a great tool that no other game has.
