I ask this because since the intro of armour abilties, we have had to adjust to an alteration of the controls so they could be fit into the scheme. But since they now have a permanent space on the controller and sprint is now also taking up room on the controller does this mean that we will never be able to pick up 2 small fire-arms at the same time? Even if there was a way that 343 could balance it out? (I am personally not too interested in a 100% balanced game, just one that i can have fun on)
It will sadden me if this is the end for duel weilding as I thought it just added so much more variety to the game, it made it more fun for me…
They were considering putting it into the game from the beginning if my memory is correct. But when it comes with Dual-Wielding, I have no idea what it’s future may be.
It could be they’re going back to basics.
H4 is CE; no Elite MP, no Dual Wielding etrc…
H5 could be Halo 2 in that Dual Wielding will come as will Elites MP.
They have too much to think about in the game design, I think since they removed two big game-changing features(As well as others), it allows them more room to breath and see the bigger picture.
I think dual-wielding will never come back. It was really something only in Halo 2. It was used very minimal in Halo 3. I never really used dual-wielding that much.
If they did implement dual wielding, I don’t think the controller has enough buttons to support the ability without it becoming overly difficult. With the addition of AA, and now sprint, there are two less buttons on the controller that could have been used to control dual wielding. I guess you could always use the extra d-pad buttons, but useing those would be really cumbersome and awkward.

That’s a really good point. It would make dual-wielding that much harder to use.
If you’ve ever played any Halo: Custom Edition maps, there are a few that have “Dual SMG” drops, or something similar. Maybe Dual-Wielding can be an Ord. Drop?
The buttons are only half the battle for when it comes to Dual Wields, the other half is balance, it’s hard to balance dual wield weapons with out having the dual wield combo being overpowered, or the weapon by it’s self being under powered.
Granted, dual wielding is fun some times, and a lot of players love it, but it’s not really up to us rather or not dual wield is in or not, and if 343i is trying to balance all of their weapons so there is no under powered or over powered weapons in their sandbox, then we may not see dual wield again.
It was fun dual wielding SMG’s and in Halo 2, dual Needlers was a blast - literally. But I don’t find it a necessary feature, it was always more of a novelty or gimmick in my opinion. I never gave it serious use in Halo 2 or 3 as I never found myself in a position where my success depended on it.
I think the days of dual wielding should remain in the past. It was cool for a couple games but that was it.

The only time I really used dual wields was mostly in campaign to fight flood, and even then, it wasn’t that good. The only good dual wield I’ve used that I’ve enjoyed was the dual wield from one of Halo Custom Edition’s maps, but it wasn’t a true dual wield, but it was a better dual wield than the true dual wields.
Make it a Mod. Disable grenade use to have twin secondary weapons. Basically one pistol/SMG becomes two, and ammo for it doubles if you pick one up off the field.
Dual wielding is very hard to balance. It was “balanced” in Halo 2 by having each gun do less damage when you had two of them. With the multiplayer being more canon based, that is not really an option as it would make no sense. Dual wielding is gone for good. It doesn’t make game play any more fun and it destroys the golden triangle of Halo “Guns, Grenades and Melee”
Duel Wielding will only ever come back now if both weapons are ‘joined’ when they are picked up. Basically you no longer get the option of wielding one SMG you have to wield two. This way the SMGs are treated as one weapon and can be balanced as one weapon hence not damaging the sandbox or balance. Furthermore duel SMGs or pistols or whatever can be balanced by several factors such as lack of grenades, lack of scope and lack of range.
Duel wield can work but it is not needed in the game however it was very fun to use; especially in the campaign (for a laugh).

Which like I said in one of my past posts, the Dual Wield SMGs in one of the Halo Custom Edition maps, was the best dual wield because it didn’t destroy the golden triangle, you could still melee with it, don’t remember if you could throw grenades or not, but it was balanced.
