Can Cross-Play Be Turned OFF?

Sorry if I missed this: I saw from the past announcement that cross play would be supported, but is it mandatory? Can Xbox players choose to play only with other Xbox players? Not looking to stress against m&kb players in a FPS, and being able to play only with one platform would remove any ambiguities about control device detection on PC. Thanks for any info!

Currently in MCC we are able to restrict our matchmaking by Platform (Xbox/PC) or Input (Gamepad/KB+M).

There is no confirmation either way, but I think it would be good if Halo Infinite allowed the optional choice of at least input restriction.

You won’t be stressed by playing against KB and M in ranked. Ranked play is input based, so if you play with a controller you’re matched to controllers. The same does not apply to non ranked, and we don’t know if we can opt out of crossplay. Hopefully we can.

Can you source where you saw ranked play will be input based? I haven’t seen any news on ranked in general.

Sure, this article here, and in the April update.

Here’s the paragraph “Social playlists and custom matches are open to all, you can play on any platform and any device with anyone you like! For ranked matches, we plan to restrict competitive playlists based on input type, not console versus PC. That’s because we believe the input is the biggest differentiator in gameplay ability (with things like aim assist on the controller or the precision of sniping with a mouse). You can play with a controller on your PC to play ranked with your console friends, or even mouse and keyboard on your console to play ranked with your PC friends.”

Awesome - thank you so much!! I do recall this now but it had slipped my mind.

You’re welcome. It’s always good when we get info, in this case we didn’t get enough imo. I would like to know if we can toggle cross play in social. In Call of Duty Cold War you can turn off cross play, but you have to enable it for Warzone. Wonder if Halo Infinite will be similar.

I doubt you’ll be able to opt-out of cross-play, but you should be able to match by input-device. And like others have said, ranked will automatically be sorted by input device.

Just remember as the game ages and the population declines you’re going to have less viable games if you turn it off. I don’t know why you would do that.

I wouldn’t turn it off.

The only real downside I’ve ever experienced in using a controller vs a KB+M player is their turret turn speed in vehicles is much higher than mine, but it isn’t worth turning off.

I wonder if other players will choose to turn it off, though that won’t impact my search times.

Infinite crossplay will have input based options. So mouse and keyboard vs mouse and keyboard and controller vs controller.

I’ve not had any sort of experience like that, almost thr counter to it. The turret needs to wait until it is physically turned. Which has killed me when u was pointing at an enemy but hadn’t swung around yet.

Interesting! I will keep an eye out next time, perhaps I was misunderstanding what was happening and incorrectly placed blame on the input haha.

The reason why I would consider turning it off is if the cheating issue is problematic on PC servers. There’s less of a risk of game manipulation on console over PC.

Yes I’m Turning The Crossplay Off Due The PC Cheaters

I can wait for games rather than be subjected to the constant pc cheats and hacking a f2p game brings with it . The console ecosystem whilst not perfect doesn’t leave you second guessing as to the integrity of the overall playerbase .

I hope it’s optional, the rise in cheating in MCC means it has to be an option to turn crossplay off.

I mean seriously, there has to be enough European Xbox players using controllers to at least find a game…

You’ll be surprised how often I win using a controller on pc against a lobby of m&kb players on MCC. Since they have the icon displaying what they use. As well the new patch for MCC added M&KB to Xbox.

This.

I am somewhat concerned, input-based matchmaking does not avoid the problem of encountering PC hacks while playing on console.

Having the option to turn crossplay off I think definitely should be there, just in case there is a cheating problem with pc players that pop up. MCC even has had more cheaters staring to pop up that has made me turn crossplay off a few times just so I could still enjoy the game. That’s one of the big reasons why games like Warzone who make it that you can’t turn it off and there is a present cheating problem, basically makes console players not want to play the game. Not a big BR player myself but the little bit I did play the amount of cheaters I ran into just turned me off from wanting to play the game again.
