Let me get one thing straight before this discussion. I am not trying to be here in only a negative capacity. I would like to make a video on the state of Halo Infinite at the moment and to call the community to action. Before I do that, I want to make sure I have as much information as possible. So this is to help me make sure I’m not giving misinformation. Anyways…
The only two that I can think of are:
1- Adding a few extra playlists (that should have been there since day one)
2- Took a few things for the Yoroi armor that were originally paywalled, and added them to the Fracture event
Is there stuff I’m missing? They’ve been talking about fixing the things we’ve been complaining about since the first week of December, and these seem to be the only solutions actually implemented.
The Community demanded the artstyle go back to classic Halo. I never thought they would cave to that. Imagine all the work that went into designing that stuff going down the can.
The community demanded Halo 5 and the Evil Cortana story be retconned and dropped. Dead before game begins and replaced with Clone. Universe reset. Cost me my happy ending and I will never forgive any of you!
Community demanded no Prometheans and Warden Eternal. They are not even mentioned by name in the game.
Community demanded no loot boxes. There are no loot boxes.
Community wanted Warzone gone. Warzone is not in and we have BTB; kind of. When it works.
Community liked Banished. Banished are main faction. Also the ONLY faction in the game.
People wanted less silly armour. There’s a lot less unicorn and power rangers armour now. In fact you only have three sets and one of those is all the Reach stuff.
They changed progression so that you can level up much easier. It was like a dozen games to do it before.
I think they’ve listened very closely to the community.
I like some of the points you make, but I feel like your anger may be misdirected. Definitely wasn’t thinking about some of these decisions that 343 made, thank you.
Well considering they’ve gotten back from vacation about a week and a half ago or something, I think they made a mention that they were currently working on some bug fixes. Sadly, I think all the fixes people have been asking for may have caused 343 to push back content that was promised much sooner. But hey, if things get fixed, then that’s great!
Now that you mention it, I’m pretty sure people got so burnt on req packs trying to get the pieces they wanted, that a few times I saw the community outcry with “Let me just buy Bucks armor for $20 and be done.”
Bots are now at ODST difficulty, I know there were a few groups out there that thought marines were essentially free kills, not that ODST bots are gonna fill in for a player, but it’s a step in the right direction.
Sadly it seems much more like a game created to make money than any sort of piece of art with a unified vision. I miss back in the day when people would make games as good as they can then see how things went, now they are so obsessed with making a game that will sell well that they forget to make a good game…
What made early Halo games great wasn’t esports or microtransactions or progression, it was the universe. It was a cool damn place, and many of us were constantly stoked to get even a tiny glimpse of more marines or ODSTs or Spartans. If they went back to that kind of focus, and making a cool universe, and cool guns rather than balanced guns, they could make an incredible game.
You’re definitely hitting at one of the points I wanted to make. 343 has someone in charge somewhere that does not care about video games, art, or how people feel. The only objective on their mind is money. And it’s ruining the Halo franchise. Which is ironic, because how do you expect to make money off something that no one wants anymore? They probably think they’re big brain as -Yoink!- and decided, “it doesn’t matter what any of the old fans think, new fans and whales will keep bringing me all the money I need.” Well I hope they know that the original Halo community that’s all in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s are still here, and we’re pretty upset with their decisions. And I’m hoping we can all band together to boycott the Infinite store until 343 decides to make this a playable game. It’s the only power we as a community hold.
Definitely currently boycotting the store. Regret buying the battle pass (and a series x to play it on.) Glad I got a trial of game pass so I havent spent money on the campaign. Sadly the economics of it are that if one person spends $300 on the store, microsoft will happily cater to them over 5 players buying the campaign.
I think on some level they are forgetting that good works speak for themselves. Take a look at Lord of the Rings. To this day people are buying the high definition versions of the extended editions, and they are still heralded as some of the best movies of all time. The hobbit, on the other hand, was clearly wrung out for every dime it could be, and has dropped out of the public lexicon. Making good work that lasts a long time is the best way to get customers.
Added challenges that are based on player score (which moves it closer to player performance based). They also stated that this was only a small step but that revamping EXP gain to occur outside the challenge system would require more work.
