Or do we all hate it? I haven’t heard anything positive about it and it certainly doesn’t discourage camping the middle rings in Abandon, or camping the bases in Solace. What good is it? They already have waypoints for power weapons.
I understand it probably took some time and hard work to implement this feature, but for the sake of the community, please keep it out of 4v4 slayer and CTF. It seems to me everyone is against it for these gametypes. It’s Fiesta Slayer-ish and is very anti-competitive.
To be clear, I’m NOT talking of Personal Ordinance.
Plenty of people will defend it, but I believe that it can only be defended on the basis of personal enjoyment (i.e. “fun”). In my opinion, that’s not a very valid basis for the defense of a primary game element. However, for others it’s the primary basis. So…
I like it because it spices up the game. Maybe not for the super competitive crowd; but for the general masses, its a fun concept for creating interesting situations in a game. Not knowing what weapon you might receive next or what your opponent has, is a challenge I enjoy: besides the typical strafe, jump, teamshoot, out-BR, rinse, repeat. Not having everything so disturbingly predictable is amazing to me.
The only thing I really like about it was that it kept players moving, instead of staying at one spot, and alerts everyone where they are at. Though I wish they would drop at a better spot away from everybody to keep it going.
If I were given a choice between the old and the new, I’d do the old, but make what can spawn on that spot random. However, make it so that whatever spawns, it’s something you will want for that map.
Can I defend the ordinance completely, no
I think the loadouts for a personal drop work very well, but I think it is too easy to get 10 or less assists for one drop. I have personally gone 2-21-1 for a match and got 3 ordinance drops. That’s stupid. Increase the point value by a bit 20-30 points, and let the perk do a pit more.
I also think the biggest fix to all weapons is stop making a max damage hit when the site tones red. Unless you are near the center you should take double our triple the number of shots for the same damage. This would reduce ordinance further.
I definitely don’t mean personal ordinance, which should stay in infinity slayer. I’m talking about the Fiesta drops on the map, and having nothing to count on to get people out from camping spots. Sometimes the old ways are the best ways…
I hate both. Have you played big team? 9/10 times on nearly all of the maps it turn into a Civil war stalemate between which team happens to collect more power weapons than the other. Trying to break the standoff with anything less than a Mantis is suicide because people can spawn with plasma grenades and plasma pistols that and because of 343’s brilliant ordinance everyone has a power weapon.
Remember in Halo 3 when people fought to get Laser from the center because it was a key weapon to controlling the map? Now when you go to the center if the person who gets laser happens to die the damn gun re-spawns within 5 seconds. It’s utter dumb. There needs to be Classic Counterparts for most of the playlists. I get it getting a power weapon after killing a few people is cool but it needs to be toned down and things need to be limited. This game really should have had a public beta and 343 really should start paying attention to what the community is saying. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.
I view infinity slayer as the social slayer from halo 3. It’s a lot of fun and encourages a variety of gameplay but doesn’t do much to appeal to the competitive players. With that description, I believe the random ordnance drops belong in the game.
If the competitive ranked playlists coming out soon also have these random drops, then I’ll be against them. Your rank needs to represent how good you are with what you have, not how lucky you can get with the drops. I still support the personal ordnance in this playlist provided the extreme power weapons (Binary Rifle, Rockets, etc.) are not included and are instead 3 minute respawns on the map like the traditional halo style.
Honestly, I don’t mind it. When placed in forge you can make it work really well. I have a Pitt remake with a random drop at both Shotgun spawns that has a huge chance to get any type of grenade but a smaller chance to get a Shotgun or Scattershot.
Incineration cannons are overkill on small maps.
Needlers won’t do -Yoink- on BTB maps.
It’s a horrible and braindead system that doesn’t take map design into account at all. If you’re getting banshees shoved up your -Yoink- you pray you get lucky instead of just walking over to the Spartan Laser spawn. Or if you are wide out in the open with SAW’s while the other team has Sniper Rifles in their fortified bunker.
Instead of having a tower overlooking the rocket spawn, the tower could have a rocket in it and the rocket spawn has the potential to spawn needlers.
I don’t see how anyone could claim to understand Halo and still support this system. It ruins balance and it ruins map design.
Keep it out of 4v4? I don’t want it in anything but infinity playlists period.
I think there have been plenty of people defending random drops, some more stubborn than the others. The randomness sure is hurting competitive play.
I think however that some of the randomness can be preserved while eliminating the whole aspect of luck that is now dripping from Infinity Slayer that is.
The only points on a map that matter now cause of it are good vantage points to DMR/BR from which shouldn’t exist too much for balancing purposes.
Random Ordinance kills map location and even map importance itself.
That in conjunction w/ the new scoring system and instant re-spawns, I don’t really care about half the stuff in this game.
The MOST random Ordinance on map should be - Rockets occasionally get replaced by Fule Rod or Incinerator, Sniper spawns often have Beam Rifle instead and occasionally Binary, Sword/Shotgun/ScatterShot/Hammer, SAW/Needler ect ect.
That I think would be a good comprimise, this way map design still goes into account AND you get the desired Variety.
I think the only positive to it is that you literally cannot camp the power weapons as you never know what’s going to drop and when…unless you have that one armor mod.
Aside from that, can’t think of anything good about it.
Is it really random? I noticed the sword is alway in the middle of adrift, snipers at base on ragnarok. sticky det. and needler on haven. I never noticed there was random weapon drops.
I couldn’t care less if there is cause I never noticed lol

INITIAL Drops are not random. But after those, everything else is random.
