Can 343 win back it's Halo fans, or is it too late

For those who have been living under a rock, 343i is releasing Warzone Firefight, Griffball, Neutral Bomb Assault, and Fiesta to Halo 5 for it’s next update.

Only issue is, the game is 4 months old, and many argued griffball should have been there at launch since it was, along with infection [which still isn’t confirmed to return], two of the most popular playlists. 343i, in fact, left out many “standard” playlists/game modes such as team objective (which can be seen as team arena), team snipers, double team, infection, oddball, and king of the hill. And it was only recently that Big Team battle returned.

I think 343i left these out purposely to start “fresh”. Sort of how next gen sports games seem to focus on a few game modes and add more in the next iteration. Well, 343i really pushed Warzone as the “next best thing” in Halo, and tried (but failed) to push Breakout as eSports to compete with CoD’s Search and Destroy mode. After those modes were pushed onto its fans did it start to play with the idea of more game modes such as flirting us with Double Team and fiesta games such as rumble rockets or shotty/snipers.

Do you think only the hardcore halo fans have remained?
Can this even start to win back fans?
Or have they deserted to

Destiny?

Destiny? Hell, no! I’m currently waiting for Doom.

The new content is amazing for fans of the game. But it doesn’t help me, because I don’t enjoy H5G’s actual gameplay in the first place.

If I get the itch to play Firefight or Grifball or something else, I’ll just pop in Reach or ODST…

no offense given, but why are you on this forum then?

It’s too late to get casuals back. Hardcore fans…I don’t know, maybe.

It’s debatable. To some, it’s already to late to win their hearts back for Halo 5, others there is hope.

Please stop spreading false information.

The people you see here on these forums who love to complain (“Oh no, Grifball doesn’t have the explosion anymore, it’s ruined!”) are the vocal minority. Most people who play Halo 5 are, well, playing and enjoying the game. Though, to answer your question, for those who have doubts, yes, it’s not too late.

Simply no, the game is too campy. Certainly wouldn’t make sense for most to return in the mass’s becaus there are too many gimmicks in Halo 5 like Spartan charge, ADS. Game isn’t as as fun any-more due to playing too much like CoD, is mostly about camping as much as possible, feels like CoD, even Assault is badly done, no sign of sorting out the horrible radar, the new forge is terrible and the lack of split-screen will continue to put people off, heck the only good news lately is Firefight but there’s only so much I can put up with when it comes to the constant problem of the spawn camping. The main problem now is it only appeals to people the non-casual gamers since it can be a difficult curve. I feel like the main reason anyone continues to play is for farming the max rank, the armour sets.

I currently can’t think of any friends that want to go back to Halo 5.

If they fix the MCC, then they will win me back.

Hell, I might be satisfied with all the maps remade in forge thrown into a classic playlist with no abilities. That forge can make some beautiful remakes.

To hopefully save any future games.

They didn’t leave the content out to ‘start fresh’, they left it out to force as many people to play Warzone as possible so they could push req pack sales. Honestly, I think it is evident that 343 really do care about halo as the game is quickly coming together, but you are right, it should of really been here at the start. I also suspect that Microsoft gave 343 a specific target for revenue and the only way to achieve it was through pushing req packs as hard as possible, or something of that sort.
I don’t think we’ve lost that many players because this game is just so addictive despite the lack of content at launch. Hopefully they have seen how unhappy most people were with the launch of Halo 5 and they won’t make the same choice with Halo 6.

Edit: I didn’t actually answer the title of the thread. I would say Yes, it will be able to win back fans. I think that once we have firefight and infection we will see people coming back to try them out. Whether they stay or not depends how good the game modes are I guess.

Oh how I love the “Vocal minority” card! Well if it was a minority than I guess Halo 5 must not have a population comparable to Halo 4… Oh wait

If you want to see the opinions of the actual fans go on the reddit, it’s a much different story on there.

It’s certainly too late, they should have shown they were listening the whole time by atleast acknowledging what was missing and what we wanted, instead of telling us 4 months in “hey guys, we have warzone firefight, coming soon- trust us! See we do listen!”. That’s all it is. Yes, it’s great they are bringing these updates in, but a lot of this should have been in launch, the colours and griffball for example.

Or TeamBeyond. At least there you might hear from someone at 343 respond to some of the issues.

But really, on many other forums people have similar complaints about the game.

What rank are you? I am low Onyx in Arena & Slayer and my experienced playing this game have NOT been campy at all. On the contrary they have been the fastest Halo games I have ever played. I do understand there are corner campers out there but that stuff happens for a couple deaths in a whole game. The general pace of H5G in my experience has been lighting fast I would say. And the “gimmick” Spartan Charge is great for fishing out campers. I frequently just sprint after corner campers and Sparge them on that Fathom-Porch-SMG spawn for example.

I can’t believe you are complaining about gimmicks in Halo 5. Compared to what? the original trilogy? Juxtaposed to every other major shooter that comes to mind and this game is so much more simple. Star Wars, Overwatch, Blops 3, Battlefield, these games have SO much more randomness in their games than H5G. We all spawn with the same 2 weapons, with the same abilities, without perks. This games normal Arena stuff is NOT gimmicky. The weapons are so well balanced. The pistol to rifles and the pistol to autos. Its superb.

Are you actually kidding? This better be a joke. The game is too campy? It plays like cod? If you can actually provide any reasoning for this please do but I bet you wont be able to find one. How is ADS a gimmick? How is any of the Spartan abilities gimmicks? They are completely original. Please leave these forums forever all you are doing is adding negativity and poison.

But yeah, mechanically speaking as I’ve mentioned in my other Thread, this Halo is just as good as any other. The core gameplay is great.

Destiny is more boring that Halo 5. Halo 5 might have a shady story, but at least it has one…

As a fan that was starting to loose hope and was at my whits end with 343’s lack of communication regarding fan outrage, my faith is beginingto restore with the recent news that they do actually listen from time to time.
