Can 343 ever get any credit?

all I see is complainers about literally EVERY single little new addition or change that goes against their close-minded opinion of what they think should be done
no one cares and you should show some respect because these games could be so much worse than you might think they are
I just feel bad for 343, you could even compare them to Obama, doing so much good work but being hated for it and anything they didn’t do
these forums are a cancerous growth

They could have done good and brought back the blue grunts but they didnt.
They double down and made them even uglier.
They need to do a whole lot before we give them credit.

blue grunts?
your opinion
they have already done a lot dude

I saw a thread where someone was complaining about the shell caseings. So no, not from here.
I give them due when they deserve but i wont defend them when they mess up.

I will be the first to point out their flaws. But people need to calm the hell down. Seriously most people whining about the new mechanics, don’t even understand them.

like what? release a game that was negatively received by a majority of players, which died before the end of that year, release 2 poor quality stick shooters, a collection which is broken both on microsoft’s side and the dev’s side (user interface, how custom games work etc) and now a game that is also far removed from the franchise?

the excuse of that they’re a new company is foolish, with many of their personnel creating many AAA games before working there.

it could be worse…but that’s like saying it could be worse for mario, you try not to do that when that’s your flagship franchise.

so far it’s been 7 years since the release of H3 and 4 years since reach and all we’ve seen is

  • a more limited theater experience
  • playlist structuring that is of a poorer quality
  • forge that is more limited and comes with a multitude of problems (mainly dynamic lighting, new systems such as snap and object hitboxes which are not indicative of where the geometry actually is)
  • lackluster medal design
  • lackluster texturing in comparison to a 7 year old game (unbelievable tree, grass, rock and metal textures, not graphical quality)
  • a more cluttered and less interesting HUD
  • dull physics (water not reacting with player like 7 years ago, physics on vehicles and ragdolling quality is less dynamic)
  • poorer animation quality
  • particle collision that doesn’t show up on MANY object faces
  • poor map design
  • poor audio quality
  • less cohesion of sandbox mechanics
  • less vehicles
  • no ranking system (that is about to change, once MM works)
  • user interface that gives less information while still being clunkier
  • gametype creation settings are narrower
  • information on end of game stats are narrower
  • the flexibility and potential of custom games is narrower
  • no new useful or game changing additions
  • many many more

while 1 specific issue isn’t much when it ADDS UP, it becomes a large problem, so far their performance has been second rate…not as a halo dev, but a AAA dev.
consoles need to stop comparing to CoD or BF and look at the revolutions and changes being made by PC games…not graphical quality or processing power, but the mechanics and features, the evolution which is giving these games such broad attention…and why this franchise is still currently stuck in the mud, i’d take a large guess at how it is being handled and not the game itself…considering the most popular games atm nearly all come from +7-10 year franchises

blue grunts wtf?? XD

well, Halo 4 grunts are worse than any other Halo game…

343 has done a lot.

Agreed. It seems that if Bungie had made Halo 4, identical to how 343 had done it, everyone would have given them endless praise.

Nooooo, no

With the amount of hate I see on these forums, I sometimes wonder if there is a group of PS fanboys that post here to -Yoink- on a franchise that is the face of xbox gaming. I for one am excited for the halo 5 beta and think the new additions look good espicially because BALANCE is being emphasized.

No offense to 343i, but what have they done for us besides given us the worst rated Halo game out of the series and a terrible Halo:MCC launch?

The people that work there are great personalities, and I have some old friends that I met through competitive gaming that work there currently, but I don’t really see what they’ve done to bring Halo back to that dominant console shooter.

I really don’t think so.

343 has handled the franchise better, but the mainline halo games havnt really been done to what the community wants, theyre starting to sort of be like bungie were like by the end with giving half of what the fans want, this I would like to see go.

343 have expanded lore massively and I love that theyre open to halo branching into other gameplay genres, but halo FPS should stay as halo FPS and not be a playground for new gimmicks that look cool but shouldnt be in games and should thus stay in the lore.

Better story telling.
Better characters developpement.
Better general designs.
Trying/bringing new things in multiplayer (instead of keeping a 10 years old gameplay mechanics which feels outdated).
I play Halo since Halo CE (it was a blast) but really got interested in the lore and Halo univers since Halo 4.
Before for me it was “just” an action shooter, now it start to become more interesting, with surprises at each episode (at least i hope).I prefer that, than just playing the same game in each sequel.
If there were no changes, the same complainers will complain, anyway.
Better to have a dev team (like 343) who likes to do what they do and takes risk, than just following an easy path.

343i seems to be a company that has a lot of talent that gets used in a haphazard fashion. They’re not afraid to try things but tend to go overboard. They’re proud of what they do, but seem to bristle at criticism. They claim to be responsive, but Waypoint is documentary evidence that they are not.

And the worst thing is that they seem to just give up when the going gets tough.

They gave up on Halo Wars.
They gave up on Reach.
They gave up on Spartan Ops.
They gave up on Dominion.
They gave up on Halo 4.

If things go as they have in the past, they will make one good attempt to fix MCC and if it’s not enough they will just say they are concentrating on their next project.

I don’t hate them. I just don’t understand them.

Prime example. New 343i artist makes an Unggoy character without doing research. New Unggoy has no exoskeleton. Picture is released and the difference is immediately noticed by fans and reported in forums. Weeks of silence by 343i followed by weak explanation that after 20 years of warfare UNSC personnel were “mistaken” when they characterized Unggoy as arthropods and, in fact, all those dead Grunts out there (and there had to be millions of them since they usually made up more than half of any task force you’ve ever encountered in any campaign) apparently didn’t have exoskeletons, contrary to all previous artwork.

They coulda just said “oops” but that would have ruined their image as being infallible.

Wait…

You two are nuts!!! Were you not around for reach? Bungie took A LOT of crap for that game…remember, it was after halo 3.

If bungie made halo 4 the same way 343 did, they would of took just as much heat… Actually even more because some people gave 343I a break because it was there first game.

Get real guys!

And to answer your question OP, yes they will and do get credit when credit is due. Right now I’m not seeing a lot of reasons to give them a lot of credit. Yes they have done some good things, but man just look at the recent mess that is the MCC. Arguably one of the worst game launches in history!!

They need to get there act together in a big way.

Seems like it’s unlikely. So many haters. It seems like 343 is in a bit of a no win situation between the people who want the gameplay to evolve and the people who just want Halo 2’s MP infinitely rereleased in every title. I say let’s just take it at face value and see if it’s fun. It’s not Halo 2, it won’t play like Halo 2. Get over it, butthurt masses. We’re a decade out from 2004. Change happens.

Thank you for the logic in the sea of illogic. Halo 2 should be the skeleton for new Halo MP, not the actual thing.
